Racism

"Racism is the belief that the genetic factors that constitute race, ethnicity, or nationality
are a primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that ethnic differences
produce an inherent superiority of a particular race." Racism is considered to be one of
the most serious and challenging problems facing humans today. Racism has caused so
much pain and destruction throughout history. It is the reason of all the hate in our world
today and also the reason of most of the wars and conflicts in the world. The problem of
racism till now is without a solution and even though some ideas came up they were
never put to practice, and they never really resolved the issue. I think that the solutions to
reduce racism and limit its negative effects are government regulations, better modern
education, and more awareness.

I believe that governments should get involved in this war against racism as they have
most of the power in this world. I think that government should set harsh punishments for
those who to choose to be racist and commit racist crimes against any other group of
people. For example businesses that only hire a specific race and discriminate against the
other races should be punished and maybe thrown out of business. People who commit
racist crimes should spend a serious amount of time in jail. So I believe that if
governments set the right regulations and rules and took the right steps towards this war
against racism, people will think twice before committing any racist acts and they would
be really discouraged. A famous act was given in the 60s to reduce racism was the
affirmative action. "Affirmative action was designed to create a more equal and balanced
society. This meant that employers, colleges, and universities needed to consider race and
gender as one of the factors in selecting employees or students. " (Hammer, 76).

Schools all around the world should get involved in this struggle. The new generations
and the generations to follow should be educated and taught that those racist ideas and
practices are not accepted in the modern world we live in today. They should also learn
about the great leaders who stood against racism for example, Nelson Mandela who
fought against racism in South Africa and Martin Luther King who, stood against racism
in the United States. The new generations should learn and take these great leaders as
their role models, and learn from their great achievements. If the education got better and
more modern, the new generation will grow to be more informed and more aware of what
is right or wrong in this world. The young ones are the ones who are born with the racist-
free mentality therefore; education must grow the idea of hating racism within them.

For example if there are more posters in airports, restaurants, sports centers and all public
places about racism, people will be forced to confront this issue and be part of the
solution to it. Also, more ads and commercials are needed in the field of television and
radio to reach a range of more people. Also, the internet should be a way to send a global
message to all people around the world. Simply with more awareness people will be
forced to face this issue and get involved in the struggle. There for racial, ethnic, or sexist
discrimination would hopefully be put to an end.

Racism is a disease, maybe not as fatal as cancer, but definitely moves as fast between
people around the world as the plague. Cancer is not yet cured, but the plague is. So why
not completely disinfect racism from us? It sure is a hard question to answer or to solve,
but with hard work from our societies, in making people more aware of this disease,
people will eventually stop their racist acts towards each other. A solution is critical to be
found, especially with what racism got us to from wars and conflicts. So I believe that the
best solutions to racism are government’s regulations, better education and more
awareness. These solutions will only work if the whole world was united and took this
problem seriously in facing it and putting its effect to a limit.
