This Sabbath, April 30, 2011:

on God and have faith in His Word. Ken Broome is chorister for First Light, and special music
is going to be really especially beautiful, as weʼll be blessed with a trumpet duet from Tim
Swensen and Cliff Mercer, with Amelia Han Riegert on the piano. Open Door worship lead is
Joe Strock. Have a blest week!

APRIL SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
==================================
“Then Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “You and your family have been saved today. You’ve shown
that you, too, are one of Abraham’s descendants. Indeed, the Son of Man has come to seek
and to save people who are lost.” Luke 19:9-10 (GOD’S WORD Translation)

Kid’s Ministry, KidsChurch, and more...
==================================
NEEDED STILL: Children's Sabbath School teachers
NEED: 2 MORE TEACHERS AND 3 ASSISTANTS.
We STILL need teachers and assistants for our kids Primary (2nd to 4th grade) class on the
1st and 3rd Sabbath of every month and a teacher for the Intermediate class (5th to 8th grade)
on the 5th Sabbath of the month., folks. This is not a joke and its not because the current
teachers are lax. This is for our kids, folks...our future members and the future of our country.
What are we to say to them when they ask why they donʼt have a teacher on Sabbath and they
have to sit with their parents?
This is a simple thing to do. There is a FULL curriculum already in place, and full training. You
will NOT be left on your own. Remember that someone taught YOU...they stepped out of their
comfort zone and showed the love of Jesus to you, so its time to give back. Please be willing
to volunteer as a lead teacher or helper. Contact John Kaplan at kaplanapps@yahoo.com or
leave a message at the church office at 408-732-4080.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WITHOUT A TEACHER, THESE CLASSES WILL NOT MEET.
==================================
Pathfinder Updates
==================================
Special thanks to Brad Elliot, Arla Kiernan, Lasoria Reid, and Eric Marshall for leading our kids
in Pathfinders. Without their willingness to step up and do, we would not have our Rangers.
Remember that the kids meet every Tuesday in the Patfhinder room, and are always grateful
for donations to help them keep the group going. Thanks to everyone.

The Agape Feast...Thanks to all...
From Didi DeRuiter: I want to express a  big "Thank You" to everyone who helped with The
Agape Feast, held on April 22nd in the Fellowship Hall.
To our volunteers and participants: Your time and energy helped put together a Good Friday
program that blessed the hearts of the people that came and focused our thoughts on the
greatest sacrifice this Easter season; the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
To the attenders: We were blessed by you being there! Your enthusiasm and appreciation
made all the hard work worth it.
One of the attendees, who is not a Christian, told me they were truly blessed by the program
and enjoyed the evening. So once again, Thank you all!

Sunnyvale Church Updates
==================================
Join us in prayer...
You may not know this but our church has an email prayer chain. Joanne Andres is the one
who leads out. She has the email addresses and sends out the requests at they come in.
Frankly, I didnʼt know we had this until I got a desperate email from a member asking for
prayer for a family member. The really strange thing is, in the last week Iʼve had 3 people email
the church office asking for prayer, which is more than I”ve had in the last year.
Iʼm telling you all this because I believe we are living in severe times, and its only going to get
worse. We all need to join our hearts, hands and prayers together and really, seriously pray for
each other. You are being officially invited to join our prayer chain, if you are not already a
member. We need your prayers. There are too many hurting people who are desperately
reaching out for help. Please join this simple but powerful ministry. You can send your email
address to Joanne Andres at : Joandre@aol.com.
If you need prayer, donʼt hesitate to send your request to either Joanne Andres at the above
email address or to me at the church office: office@sunnyvalesda.org. Thanks, all.
Your office manager, Sherrill

Arlene Taylor Weekend at Sunnyvale Church

FRIDAY MAY 13 THROUGH SUNDAY MAY 15; 4 DIFFERENT TOPICS
Last year, brain-function specialist Dr. Arlene Taylor came to Sunnyvale Church and presented
some “mind-boggling” information on our brains, and on the differences between the male and
female brain. She returns this year to continue to help us understand ourselves and each
other. Below are her topics:
• Friday May 13 at 7 pm: Use Your Brain for Success
• Sabbath am May 14, both services, 9:15 am & 11:45 am: Unity in Diversity
• Sabbath Evening, May 14, 7 pm: The Brain & Laughter - Take Two, To, and Too
• Sunday, May 15, 9 am Brunch;10:15 am - 12 Noon: Male-Female Differences & More
Like last year, this series is free of charge to all attendees. You will not want to miss her sharp,
humorous, and highly-informative “look” into the most marvelous organ of the body; your brain.
Start telling folks about it now so they can put it on their calendars. There will be handouts in
the upcoming weeks too, so stay tuned for those. Contact the church office for more details.

American Cancer Society 2011 “Relay for Life” Gilroy Walk for A Cure
IN MEMORY OF DEBBIE WARREN; JULIE BEACH WALKING WITH “WARREN’S WARRIORS”
FRIDAY, JUNE 17, 2011 6PM THROUGH SATURDAY, JUNE 18 AT 6 PM AT CHRISTMAS HILL RANCH SITE
“Hi all, Julie Beach here...thanks to each of you who has gone to my page and either signed up
for walking or made a donation for the “Relay for Life” ACS Walk for A Cure. Many of you
remember my dear friend Debbie Warren, who lost her battle with cancer 3 years ago. The 1st
year, we walked it together. (See picture) In the 3 years since, we have walked
it in memory of her.

Our team, Warren's Warriors, is again planning on walking in

memory of Debbie Warren on Friday, June 17, 2011 6PM
through Saturday, June 18 at 6 PM.  For those unfamiliar with
relay, our team will keep someone on the track for the full 24
hours.  We divide the 24 hours into 1-hour shifts so at least 1
person is walking - we keep someone on the track at all times.
Many of us camp out for the whole night, many come for just
an hour to walk - some stop by for just a few minutes.
Whatever you can manage - we would love to have you there.
As the event gets closer, we will have a sign up sheet for all
that would like to participate.

Please join me in remembrance of Debbie and in support of the American Cancer Society.  If
you can come walk - terrific, click on the link below and join our team (you will get a way cool t-
shirt).  If you can't walk, maybe you can donate. Any amount helps, from $1 to $1,000, so
please don't feel if you can't give a lot that you shouldn't give at all.
Thanks to all that have already contributed! And thanks to everyone for your continued support
throughout the years! Let's go find a cure! “ Julie Beach and Warren’s Warriors

===================================
Pastor’s Corner - My Brother
===================================
The other day I was moved by a story I read regarding the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy.
The story goes like this. One day as he walked down the street, Tolstoy passed a beggar.
Reaching into his pocket to give the beggar money, he found that his pocket was empty.
Looking at the poor man, Tolstoy said, “I'm sorry, my brother, I have nothing to give." To his
surprise, the beggar brightened. He said, "You gave me more than I asked for . . . you called
me brother."

The week we spent ministering to the homeless in San Francisco and Oakland really changed
my perspective on homeless people.  What they really need is not just food and shelter, but
genuine compassion.   Someone to look them in the eyes and say, “I care, how can I help
you?”

It reminds me of the text found in 1 John 3:7. “Suppose someone has enough to live and sees
a brother or sister in need but does not help, Then God’s love is not living in that person.”
We need to be able to not only help the physical needs of the suffering around us but their
emotional needs as well.  They need to feel they are of value and worth; they are our “brothers
(and sisters)”.  People need to see and feel that Godʼs love is real and living in us.

My prayer for us is that the world will know we are Christians more by our actions than by
where, when, and how we worship.

Blessings,

Pastor Rob Colón
