Abstract: This article reflects upon the importance of the coverage of literature within
the history of the ideas in Latin America. Taking the novel Todas las sangres (Every Blood)
by the Peruvian author José María Arguedas as a reference, we will show that literature
possesses an invaluable documentary value, because it constitutes a particular cultural
manifestation, which allows us to access the ideologies or systems of thought which
characterize a society in a given time.
