Acknowledging the role of Glasgow as a
_conceptual development
Cities known to be aesthetically successful
are the end product of a ceaseless process of
atomization, crashing, overlapping and pollution
of many diverse ideas imposed on it by successive
generations, each with its own idea. architecture
in the modern age should abandon its purist
abstration and allow itself to be influenced by
influxes of historical references

European green city and the home to four
internationally acclaimed universities, the
project will aim at bringing the cultural
scene and green pride to the city centre.
The city of Glasgow attracts a number of
tourists making it the fourth most popu-
lar destination in the UK and one of the
top 10 for international travelling. There
is, however, a missing link between the
visitor of Glasgow and the resident. For
this reason, the project aims to provide a
place for interaction and sharing of cul-
tural and literary wealth.

Inspired by the book crossing movement

and the people’s oriented movements
of the city, the proposal will fashion a
People’s library. This space will host the
sharing of books and will provide a green
space where to read and write free of
charge. The visitor will be able to leave
books behind and take any from it. This
“People’s library will also host for the resi-
dent to leave and take books from it, as
well as a place for lingering and cultural
fostering.

The work until now has been focussed

on the analysis of city as a result of the
processes of collage. Aesthetically suc-
cessful urban areas are a result of the
superimposition, collision, fragmentation
and contamination of architectural enti-
ties and styles. A people’s library will fol-
low this principle programmatically bring-
ing together separate users with distinct
contributions for the developing of the
typology.

The proposal must correctly make use of

its location across the river from the main
train station. The absence of adjacent
building and noise from railway lines must
also be taken into consideration.
