Logging into ActixOne
 Open a Web browser* and then enter the URL of the ActixOne
server in the browser's address field
– Depending on the security setup determined by the administrator,
you may need to log in before you can begin using ActixOne.
If so, you are presented with a login screen.

– Enter a valid username and password (optionally: Remember Username)


and then click the Log In button.

Managing Measurement Data


Task List

Task List in ActixOne

 An ActixOne system may contain


– data from multiple sources
– for an entire operator‘s network
– including several RAN systems (GSM, UMTS, ...).

 Accordingly, the Task list may contain 1000s of tasks related to


– different types of problems
– different priorities and status
– multiple regions and cities
– a multitude of clusters and sites
– a number of engineers working on them.
– multiple departments and branches in the organization

 What is eventually visible in the task list can be arranged


individually using Views, Filters, and Scopes (incl. Areas)

Task List – Default View

 A flat list containing the main task properties in the following sequence:
– ID – Assigned To
– Type – Priority
– Description – Status
– Created (Date and Time)

 Below the task list, there is a link to the applied View.


– If the Default view is applied, then there is a link to creating a view.

Setup the Task List
using Views

 Create an individual View of the Task list with:


– a defined tree structure and
– selected columns in a defined sequence.
For example: Group by Type and Status.
 Click the Views icon and select Create View...
 Activate Group for the columns Type and Status.
As Group is activated, the column item is moved up automatically. This creates a tree view
grouped at first by Type and then by Status, because Type is in this list above Status.

 Select the Priority


column and click to
move it up below ID
 Name the view
 Click to save and
apply the view
The view is then available
for this user for selection
in the View icon menu

using Views

 Further functions for Task Views include:

– Select from many more task properties defined


in the system setup, e.g. to show and group
the task list by network hierarchies
like Regions, Clusters

– Manage Views... to list all views


and to edit or delete them

Task List – Filter

 Filters can reduce the number of listed tasks.


 Without a filter (or scope), all tasks are listed.

 Below the task list, there is a link to the applied Filter.


– If no filter is applied, then there is a link to creating a filter.
– If the list is filtered the Filter icon has a green check mark, otherwise not

Setup the Task List
using Filters

 Create an individual Filter for the Task list with:


– a condition on a task property or
– combined conditions on several properties.
For example: Filter for my own tasks.
 Click the Filters icon and select Create Filter...
 Name the filter
 Set the Field Assigned To to equal
your login name.
 Add e.g. conditions to only show tasks that are
not closed or just closed within the last 3 days.
– Click to add a row
– Use to logically group the selected rows

 Click to save and apply the filter


The filter is then available for this user for selection
in the Filter icon menu

Task List – Scope

 Scopes (e.g. areas) can narrow down the listed tasks.


 Without a selected scope (or filter), all tasks are listed.

 Below the task list, there is a link to the selected Scope.


– If no scope is selected (i.e. scope is „Entire Network“), then there is a link
to selecting a scope.

Setup the Task List
using Scopes

 Set an individual Scope for the Task list by:


– selecting an area.
For example: Set the scope top my cluster.

 Click the Scope icon


and
select from Network Areas
the respective cluster

 Click to apply the scope


The map is then automatically zoomed to
the selected area. And only tasks are listed,
which relate to sectors in the selected area.

Using the Task List

 To select a task
– click on the respective row in the Task List
– click on the Task ID link at the bottom left of the task list
and enter the ID

 To un-select a task
– Ctrl + click on the respective row in the Task List

For a selected task, in Task Summary Details you can:

 Change the Description


 Set the Priority
 Take Ownership or Release Ownership
or Assign it to a specific ActixOne user
 Get a direct URL („Deep link“)

Using the Map: Pan and Zoom
 Pan the map by click/hold and move
 Zoom in or out as follows:
– move the mouse pointer over the icon or click it, then:
 click the house to zoom in, click the earth to zoom out
 click on a bar or move the ruler along the slider
The respective zoom level (number) is shown on top.
– use the Page Up/Down or +/- keys on the keyboard:
 Page Up or + to zoom in, Page Down or - to zoom out
– use the mouse scroll wheel:
 scroll up to zoom in and down to zoom out
– double-click on the map to center and zoom in
to the selected point

 Zoom into an area as follows:


– rectangular area:
 Press the Ctrl key and drag the mouse pointer to draw a box,
to which ActixOne will zoom when you release the Ctrl key.
– circular area:
 Press the Ctrl and Alt keys and drag the mouse pointer to draw
a circle, to which ActixOne will zoom when you release the keys.

Layers

Layers in ActixOne

 The map view is built up from a number of Layers that are


stacked on top of one another, each Layer displaying a specific
set of information.
 The final view is equivalent to looking down
from above onto the top of the stacked Layers.
 To control the display of Layers, move the
pointer over the icon or click it to:
– show the stack of Layers
– show or hide any Layer: use the checkbox
– adjust the Layer transparency: use the slider
 left is more transparent, right is more opaque
– control the order of the stacked Layers:
drag and drop the different Layers in the list
– access the Layer properties (if any):
click the Layer‘s name

Background Map

 The displayed maps are delivered by map providers.


– The available map providers (e.g. Bing, Google maps) and types depend on
how ActixOne has been configured by an Administrator.

 Use the Background Maps layer to select from the available


providers the type of map shown as background.
– Click on the name/logo to select the provider
– Select one available type for this provider

 Depending on the provider, the background


maps can include the following:
– Road maps with labels
– Aerial or satellite images
– Aerial or satellite images with labels, such as road and place information
– Terrain maps showing the altitude of the landscape (Google Maps only)

Networks Layer
Network Configuration Display

 The Network Layer Properties control the display of the


network configuration data (sites, sectors) on the map
– select the network type on the left-hand side
– adjust the visibility:
 entire network type
 site and sector labels
 zoom-in level, at which sites, sectors,
or labels get visible
– adjust the transparency
 entire network type
– adjust the size and color of display:
 size of displayed sites and sectors
 site and sector coloring and scaling
based on attributes or transient data
– select or create a filter
 e.g. GSM co-channel sectors

Network Configuration (1)

 Set up the display of the network configuration on the map


– by setting the Network Layer Properties.

General visibility of a technology (GSM, UMTS, ...).


 Select the network technology, e.g. WCDMA or GSM, and
activate/deactivate the corresponding Visible checkbox

Visibility of sectors and labels – depending on zoom level.


 Move the Site Visibility slider to the zoom level,
at which sites should be shown (typically a very low level)
 Move the Sector Visibility slider to the zoom level,
at which sectors should be shown (typically a medium level)
 If site labels should be visible:
Check the Show Site Labels box, move the slider
to the zoom level, at which they should be shown,
and click to select the site attribute to be shown in the label, e.g. Name
 If sector labels should be visible:
Check the Show Sector Labels box, move the slider
to the zoom level, at which they should be shown,
and click to select the sector attribute or transient data to be shown in the label, e.g. Name

Size of sectors.

 Go to a zoom level, at which sectors are shown, then:

 Move the Sector Size slider to the


desired Relative sector size, e.g. 100%.
The visible sectors on the map are resized instantly.

 Select a sector on the map, then:

 Move the Selected Sector Size slider to the


desired Relative sector size, e.g. 300%.
The visible sectors on the map are resized instantly. The size is in relation to the unselected sectors.

Color scheme for sectors.

 Check the Color Sectors box and


click to select the sector attribute for coloring, e.g. SC.
The visible sectors on the map are re-colored instantly.
(About the legend, please refer to Format Groups.)

Format Group (Legend)

 Legends
– show you information about displayed data and results of searches
– allow you to modify how that information is displayed on the map
– In this way, the tool can be used both to help you:
 to find network elements as well as
 to understand and diagnose problems.

 Move the pointer over the icon or click it to:


– show the Legends
– show or hide any displayed data on the map
based on the Legend categories: use the checkboxes
– customize a Legend: click on its name
and adjust the User Format Group
 Global/Default Legends are defined by administrators.

Search for Location
(Location Finder)

 Accepts search requests for


– city names, e.g. London
– street addresses, e.g. Beacon Street
– latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates
in the format lat:<lat_value> lon:<lon_value>
– sectors  However, preferably use Search for Elements (see later slides)
 by sector name, including just initial characters in the format
sector:<sector_name>
 additionally, in order to differentiate between sectors with the same name, but different
network type, in the format
sector:network=<network_type>;<sector_name> , e.g. sector:network=GSM;ABC1

 Click the icon to


– open the control and enter the search request
– If multiple map providers are configured in ActixOne,
select the map provider
– If multiple results are found, select from the shown list

Home Location

 is a defined map view with stored latitude, longitude,


and zoom level.
 Make use of the Home Location in ActixOne by:
– setting a Home Location
– for instantly going back to it at any time.
Remember a Home Location.
 Select the map view (location and zoom level)
 Click the Tools icon and
select Remember home-location.
Go to Home Location.
 Press the Home key on the keyboard
or click the Tools icon and select Go to home-location

System Date, Scale Units, Print

 System Date
– reflects a point in time for the configuration of the network.
(only available in the Network Optimization module)
– Click the System Date (located at the top center of the map) to
 select a date
 Only those elements, such as sectors, are shown on the map
that were available or active on that date.

 Scale Unit
– shows either imperial Units (miles, yards, and feet)
or metric Units (kilometers and meter)
– Click the Unit at the scale indicator
(located at the bottom center of the map) to
 toggle the Unit

 Print Map
– Click the Tools icon and select Print Map to
 Print the map as it is currently seen on the screen,
i.e. at the same zoom level and with the same map layers

Distance Ruler, Altitude Profile

 Distance Ruler
– for measuring distances and azimuths
– Click the icon (located at the bottom center of the map) to
 activate the Distance Ruler
– Then click on the map and draw a line
 The distance and the azimuth are shown for the line
– Click the active icon again to
 deactivate the Distance Ruler

Areas in ActixOne

 ActixOne typically contains pre-defined areas:


– Geographical Areas (e.g. states, cities)
– Network Areas (e.g. operator regions, markets, clusters)
Such areas are defined/uploaded by an administrator.

 In addition to pre-defined Geographical areas, an ActixOne


user can define individual area polygons* to be used in:

ActixOne Module User-defined areas can be used for:

Create a Polygon
 Define an individual Area in ActixOne by:
– creating a polygon.
For example: A trouble or hot-spot area.
 Click the Tools icon
and select Create Polygon
to open the Custom areas control
 Start drawing by clicking on the map
 Double-click to finish the polygon
 Name the area and click or
to save it
 Click the Edit/Redefine existing feature
button to modify a polygon
Saved polygons are then available (also for other users)
in the Custom section of Geographical areas.

Element Search in ActixOne

 The Search for Elements control in ActixOne can be used to:


– find network elements
by a given set of criteria
 What? – defined in the Search tab
– Type of network element,
e.g. Controller, Site, Sector, ...
– Type of search,
e.g. by Name, Attribute, Top N
 Where? – defined in the second tab
– Boundaries of the search,
e.g. a selected area, the visible map part,
or, as default, the entire network
 Search results are listed in the Results tab
– save Search Templates
to reuse a set of search criteria,
e.g. sectors with certain attribute values

– define and save Selection Sets


to reuse a set of elements,
e.g. a search result or a hand-picked set of sectors

– Click the icon to open Search for Elements


– Search network elements based on various criteria
 What? – defined on the Search tab:

 Where? – defined on the Scope tab:
– Boundaries of the search,
e.g. selected area, visible map part

– Create complex searches

 After finding one or more elements, they can be added to a selection set

– Access the Search for Elements control
– Use Search for Elements dialog,
e.g. Sector by Name:
 Partial name search for sectors
 Move found elements to Selected List
 Change Global Selection for an element
selected in that list
 Add another sector from the map to
the Selected List (Ctrl + click)
 Create a Selection Set as an example
for a favorite, regularly used set of sectors
– Save it for reuse

 Select the neighbors for a selected sector


 Select the parent (site) or child for a selected sector

Element Search
using Search Templates (1)

 Make use of Search Templates in ActixOne by:


– creating a Search Template.
For example: Create a Search Template for an attribute condition of
sectors – Sectors with PCT_CALL_DROP > 1%.
 Click to open Search for Elements
 In the Search tab, instead of Name,
select Attributes from the drop-down menu
 Click to add a row and then in the Field
column select Browse... to select an attribute
For partial name search, type into the field on top, e.g. drop,
then select the attribute from the reduced list of Search Results.
Click to go back and apply the selection
 Define > as Operator and 1 as Value ...
 Click to save this condition
as a template and give it a name 56

Element Search
using Search Templates (2)

 Make use of Search Templates in ActixOne by:


– reusing a Search Template at any time.

For example: Reuse a Search Template – Sectors with PCT_CALL_DROP > 1%.
 Click to open Search for Elements
 Select the desired template from the drop-down menu
 Select a Scope
If it should be different than the shown default (here Entire Network),
click that tab and change the scope, e.g. Map or a selected area/cluster

 Select the search date by the System Date


The applicable date is defined by the system date control
at the top center of the map.

 Click to apply the template and start the search.


The found elements are listed in the Results tab

Element Selection
using Selection Sets (1)

 Make use of Selection Sets in ActixOne by:


– creating a Selection Set.

Create a Selection Set – here for example: A set of sectors selected on the map.
 Select the sectors on the map
– All sectors in a rectangular area: Shift + drag mouse
– All sectors in a circle: Shift+Alt + drag mouse
– Single sectors: Ctrl + click

 Click to open Search for Elements


 Click to save the Selection Set,
then select New
and give it a name.
Click OK to save it.

– reusing a Selection Set at any time.

 Click to open Search for Elements
 Click to display all saved Selection Sets,
select the desired set and click
to add the saved set to the current
selection
 Click again to return to the current
selection, then click to select all sectors
from the set or check the boxes to select
individual sectors from the set

Basics of using ActixOne

 Task list:
– Define a custom view that groups tasks, e.g. by Type and Status
– Define a custom filter that lists
 only tasks for a given area or
 only your tasks (those assigned to you)
– Pass a task on to another user of ActixOne
 Zoom:
– in and out
– to a user-defined rectangular area
– to an area 5 km around a given site

Network Configuration Display
For a GSM/UMTS multi-technology network:
 Show the UMTS or GSM sites and sectors only
For a given area:
 Colorize the sector wedges by a sector attribute:
– Use configuration data, e.g. BCCH
– Use performance data, e.g. PCT_CALL_DROP

 Scale the size of the sector wedges by a sector attribute:


– Use configuration data, e.g. Antenna Height
– Use performance data, e.g. PCT_CALL_DROP

What can be reasons, if sites or sectors are not shown on the map?
If available, also:
 Select a sector and show its neighbors
 Create and save a polygon for a user-defined area,
e.g. your area of responsibility or a trouble-spot
