A conversation with a friend on women rights

Question
Quran 4:34. What actions can require hitting to a woman? Tell me the exact
context and details and quote other relevant ayahs in support of your argument.

Someone is insistent that Islam oppresses women??

Surah e Nisaa Ayah 34

Reply
The word "Qawwaan" is derived from "Qaim" means sustainers and supporters,
men are responsible for all the needs of Women as they are weak gender with
many health problems like menses etc, also they give birth to their children and
need lots of nursing in those days.
So the responsibility for earning, giving good living etc lies with men, that's why
God promotes men over women but only administratively same like some men
are promoted administratively over other men and their obedience is necessary.
At the day of judgement all men and women will be responsible for their
individual deeds.

So in order to keep discipline in a home men have the managing authority and
women have to obey them. In case of woman's disobedience a man can take
three steps one by one.

1. Exhortation (Nasihat in good words)

2. Benish them from beds

Think if a subordinate is so much rebellious that she would not alter her attitude
specially for the cases mentioned in the ayah

1. islah (piousness, chastity and God's obedience)

2. obedience of man in Maroof
3. guarding of secrets

Than men are allowed to hit them, but with following conditions mentioned in a
sahih hadith

1. Man cannot hit on her face

2. Cannot hit hard
3. Intent is not to harm her but just to give a sense of embarrassment and
Punishment.

I will send you the reply of second question by tomorrow.

Question
1. How’s the husband to judge the level of piousness. For example, if the
husband is jahil he may take advantage of religion to suppress her. A common
thing in rural areas especially where spiritual Islam like piri faqiri is practiced.
Considering such good number of anomalies that may exist in a society, can you
please give a uniform, clear definition of Islah in this regard applicable
universally?
2. Obedience of men in what matters. Please quote references.

Reply
It’s not only the responsibility of a husband to read Quran and understand the
boundaries of God's law but also of the wife. Some Hadiths of Prophet describe
this fact as "you all are responsible and accountable for your subordinates" and
"acquiring knowledge is mandatory on all Muslim men and women".

Although the prime responsibility lies with men to learn and then implement
God's will in his family as Allah says to the heads of the families in Surah e
Tahreem "Safe yourself and your family from hell fire", however, if the scenario is
what you mentioned, than women should try to educate their husbands like did
by Muslim women when they made captives of Tatars, every body knows the
outcome, whole Tatar dynasty converted into an Islamic empire.

The teachings of Islam are very natural and every body can judge whatever is
being taught is right. Even then he / she disobeys, he / she deserves a
punishment.

The example you quoted of our rural areas is very pertinent and practical. The
basic principle of Islamic laws is "all the laws are for Muttaqeen". If you read the
ayahs of Surah e Baqrah and Surah e Nisa in which dos and don’ts are

Page: 2 of 4 http://www.geocities.com/ibrahim.salaar/
described the ending is made with the words. These are the rules for those who
are Muttaqeen (God fearing).

All these ayahs have been revealed for an Islamic society not for a perverted
society, you know before the revelation of these ayahs Prophet Mohammad
(PBUH) had been preaching only Iman for about 15 years to provoke Taqwaa in
hearts,

The Holy Quran is guidance for Muttaqeen.

When an Islamic society was come into existence these rules were revealed.

So for our illiterate areas / people we need to do dawaat and Tableegh to create
awareness, once it is done than the rules will be imposed

Now the reply of second part of your previous question

"Someone is insistent that Islam oppresses women. jawab chayiae"

It’s our misfortune, we think like that. Infact Islam is the savior of women. Before
Islam girls were buried alive, see surah e takweer, they were used by the men,
they were made captives and forced to do prostitution, see surah e noor, they
didn't have any share in inheritance, read any seerat un nabi, they were divorced
with out any compensation and they didn't have any such rights, see surah e
baqrah and surah e talaaq.

Not only in Arabia, but in all over the world. One can say it is b/c illiteracy and
ignorance, the reply is Quran gave mankind the knowledge of every thing and
taught the lesson of freedom for all.

This question arises only on one issue, PARDA. Modern woman couldn't digest
it. On contrary in arabia only free women did parda so that they could be
recognized from the captives and they felt proud on it, see surah e ahzab &
surah e noor.

Modern woman wants "so called freedom" that west has, but the records tell us
that max rapes are occurred in west b/c woman is not protected by family system
and naturally she is a weak gender. In west she has to earn, do all the hardships
of life and if she gets pregnant, she bears all the pains and the male goes away
after making fun. The records speak that the number of women being beaten by
males (boy friends) are reside in west. Highest rate of suicides is in west. This is
the true picture of the freedom they have.
Islam gives honor to woman as wife, daughter, sister and mother. Islam gives her
the responsibilities which suits to her physical power. Islam gives her all rights
and makes man responsible for her care taking.

Page: 3 of 4 http://www.geocities.com/ibrahim.salaar/
Islam gives different responsibilities to man and woman as per their physical
capabilities. Man has to earn for his family and woman is the holder of family
affairs. In a home a woman is very much secured, protected and does work as
per her capabilities, nevertheless, Islam doesn't want to suppress the abilities of
a woman if she has more than a household wife. She should take education, can
become a doctor, architect, teacher and so on. But the schools, colleges and
universities must be separated. Ladies hospitals, shopping centers etc should be
made separated, and while going to her work place she has to observe PARDA.
Mingling of sexes is not allowed.

Allah has built-in attraction in woman's body and every body knows it. This
attraction provides motivation for man to bear the bourdon of house and family.
This becomes a source of love, charm and happiness when man marries a
woman, on contrary, if it converts into a temptation this can ruin the entire society
and family system like in west
