LAB 5: CLOSE RANGE PHOTOGRAMMETRY

OBJECTIVE
To introduce and give an experience with operating the soft photogrammetry (digi
tal photogrammetry software)
GOAL
To produce a topographic map base on the aerial photo
EQUIPMENTS
i) A pair of overlap aerial photography (digital image)
ii) Ground control file data and location
iii) Camera calibration parameter
iv) Lens distortion parameter
PROCEDURE
1. Launch Stereo Aerial Triangulation. Create new workspace (.wks) at proje
ct folder.
2. After that create new model and then select photos 201 and 202.

3. Interior orientation
i. Right click at model. Select the interior orientation. Insert the fiduci
al marks:
x y
1 -57.75 0
2 0 80.8
3 57.75 0
4 0 -80.8
ii. After that zoom in to the fiducial mark and finish all interior orientat
ion for all point.
iii. Repeat this step for the right image.
4. After both interior orientation is completed. Then do the relative orien
tation
i. Right click at the model and then select relative orientation.
ii. Next, click Position and then select Automatic Von Grubber. Then ad
d the point using positions then click create.
iii. Select the point at the left photo and make sure the point is stereo
with the right model. Select amount number of points that randomly distributed o
ver a model.
5. Then do the absolute orientation.
i. Insert the ground control point that we calculate before.

ii. Based from the location of ground control point In lab sheet, dou
ble click at the ground control point and then match the point in the photo.
iii. Check and make sure the residual error in x, y and z is not exceedi
ng 2 centimeter.
6. After complete the absolute orientation, open DVP software for digitizin
g the façade of the building.
i. Open model, create the detail layer and then digitize the building using
polyline and polygon.
ii. Then export all layer to TIN and save the layer in .tgl format.
Produce Orthophoto
1. After the digitizing process complete, open DVP orthorectification.
2. Open model, open all vector in vector manager and open the DEM manager.
At DEM manager, open the the file that export before.
3. Click fence icons; insert 600 for width and 800 for height. When the fen
ces appear, delete one of the fences.
4. At output manager, select image format to jpeg. 0.05 pixel resolution. B
rowse for the folder to store the image output and then give the prefix name fc1
263_4e_116i.
5. Then produce the orthophoto map.
Conclusion
In the close range photogrammetry, the important thing is the standard error of
x, y and z which is during the locating the ground control point session. It has
to not exceed 2 cm. if there are errors in standard error, maybe there are prob
lem in locating the floating mark to it true position. User also has to know tha
t they should create more than 5 pass points during the relative orientation pro
cess.
