Sustainability alive and well on UH campus

The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa group Sustainable Saunders recently celebrated their one-year anniversary of hard
work creating change in terms of sustainability on the UH campus. The group is comprised of a close-knit group of

dedicated students and faculty whose voices are beginning to be heard in the community.

The members of Sustainable Saunders have been working hard this year on a variety of projects in Saunders Hall,
including air-conditioning improvements, wind and solar instillations, a worm bin, delamping projects, recycling, Subject:
bicycling and much more. Sustainable Saunders works to provide an example for the rest of campus and the local
community of what sustainability is and how it can be achieved. Name:

wind system and solar panels to cut energy costs.

This Friday, April 18, Sustainable Saunders and the Help Us Bridge group will be honoring the University of Hawai‘i's
seventh annual Earth Day with Sustainability Fest. The festival is free to the public and will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
on the Hawai‘i Hall lawn.

"Earth Day's goal is to show a model of sustainable community development," said Earth Day coordinator Tamara
Armstrong. The day is full of fun events and surprises and will feature an open-air market during the day and concert in

the evening.

Over 80 booths are expected for the massive Earth Day celebration, including ones for local green businesses, food All fields are required.

"Earth Day is an opportunity to share with people the work we've been doing all year," Armstrong said.

There will also be a scavenger hunt that participants can compete in for the chance to win an awesome array of prizes
including a balsa wood surfboard and beach cruiser bicycle.

The event will transition from the open-air marketplace and vendor booths during the day to the free concert in the
evening featuring Go Jimmy Go, Quadraphonix, Pressure Drop and more. The schedule of events is as follows:

9 to 11 a.m. - Vendor/Participant booth dropoff and setup 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Open-air marketplace 4 to 5 p.m. - Lively
transition, changeover and setup 5 to 11 p.m. - Evening concert celebration *For more information, visit
