Spanish Lesson Plan #1

March 4th-6th 2008


Day 1

Lesson Topic: Body Parts


Grade Level: 3rd-5th
Goals:
 Students will be able to write and say the new Spanish vocabulary for body parts.
 Students will be able to identify their main body parts in Spanish
 Students will be able to sing “head-shoulders-knees-and-toes” in Spanish by
pronouncing the word and demonstrate the movements.

Materials/Supplies Needed:

 Large flashcards
 Worksheet to label body parts
 Spanish CD with “head-shoulders-knees-and-toes” song

Time: 8:00 AM – 8:05 AM

 Teachers will begin the lesson by reviewing numbers in Spanish with students
from the previous week.
 The teacher will review the numbers by asking students if they remember the
numbers 1-10, 10-15, 15-20, and 20-25 and the teacher will provide assistance
and correct pronunciation as needed.

Time: 8:05 AM – 8:20 AM

 The teacher will introduce body parts in Spanish using flashcards, and
writing/posting the vocabulary words in Spanish on the chalkboard.
 The teacher will hand-out a worksheet with a picture of a person and blank
spaces next to each body part for students to fill in the correct word in Spanish.
o Ex) Head = cabeza
o Ex) Eye = ojo
 The teacher will say the word in Spanish and instruct students to verbally repeat
the word aloud, and write the word in on their worksheet to practice correct
pronunciation and spelling in Spanish.

Time 8:20AM-8:30AM

 After the teacher has reviewed the body parts vocabulary in Spanish and the
students have completed the worksheet, the teacher will inform students that
now they are going to practice and prepare for next class to sing “head-
shoulders-knees-and-toes” in Spanish!

 The teacher will ask students to stand, and the teacher will lead and review the
body parts in the order of the song:

o ENGLISH: Head, shoulders, knees & toes (in Spanish version: leg & foot),
knees & toes (leg & foot) ears, and eyes, and mouth and nose, head,
shoulders, knees & toes (leg & foot), knees & toes (leg & foot)

o SPANISH: Cabeza, hombro, pierna y pies, pierna y pies, orejas, ojos,


boca y nariz, cabeza, hombro, pierna y pies, pierna y pies.

Parent Volunteer Involvement:

 The parent will help students with pronouncing the body parts in Spanish
correctly as well as help instruct and demonstrate the song “head-shoulders-
knees-and toes”

Day 2

Lesson Topic: Body Parts


Grade Level: 3rd-5th
Goals:
 Students will be able to write and say the new Spanish vocabulary for body parts.
 Students will be able to identify their main body parts in Spanish
 Students will be able to sing “head-shoulders-knees-and-toes” in Spanish by
pronouncing the word and demonstrate the movements.

Materials/Supplies Needed:

 Large flashcards
 Worksheet to label body parts
 Spanish CD with “head-shoulders-knees-and-toes” song

Time: 8:00 AM – 8:15 AM

 The teacher will begin the lesson by reviewing body parts in Spanish with the
students using the flashcards from the previous lesson.
 The teacher will ask student to verbally repeat the words in Spanish.
 The teacher will add additional body parts for students to learn in Spanish that
were not listed on their worksheet they received on Day 1.
 The new body part vocabulary words include:
o Codo = elbow
o Pelo = hair
o Cuello = neck
o Tobillo = ankle
 The teacher will say and write the new vocabulary words on the chalkboard, and
ask students to repeat the words in Spanish.

Time: 8:15 AM – 8:30 AM

 The teacher will inform the students that next they will be listening to a CD with
“head-shoulders-knees-and-toes” in English and then in Spanish.
 The teacher will play the song in English first, then in Spanish and ask students
to listen.
 After the students have listened to the song in Spanish a few times, the teacher
will instruct the students to stand up and follow along doing the body movements
for the Spanish version without saying the words.
 After the students do the body movements without saying the words a few times,
the teacher will ask the students to add the words along with the body
movements to the song.

 Each group of students (4 groups) will be asked to perform the song using body
movements and voice for the class. The group will perform in Spanish with the
CD two times, and then without the CD one time.
 The teacher will inform students that they can learn from watching their
classmates and that this song will help them remember their main body parts in
Spanish!
 By the end of the lesson all students will have performed the song in Spanish
and learned the body part vocabulary in Spanish through verbal, kinesthetic, and
visual learning.

Parent Volunteer Involvement:

 The parent will help students with pronouncing the body parts in Spanish
correctly as well as help instruct and demonstrate the song “head-shoulders-
knees-and toes”
