UCC Happenings
Black Bag Collection
Since we had our Matching Gift Sunday last week, we have
moved our black bag collection to today! This month’s black bag
will benefit the Micah 6 Coalition. This coalition is a network of
faith communities within the University of Texas at Austin that
answer the call of Micah 6:8 in the Bible to do justice through
education, dialogue, advocacy, and by serving those who come to
us for assistance. Volunteers and donations are always needed
and greatly appreciated. For more info, visit micah6austin.org
Easter Vigil Reception
We need donations of food for the reception after the Easter
Vigil. Baked goods, finger foods, snacks and punch are all
welcome. Even if you are not able to attend the Vigil, you can
still help as donations can be dropped off early. Please sign up at
the front desk if you can help. Let's give our new Catholics a
warm welcome!
Phonathon
The UCC's 5th Annual Phonathon is currently underway! We
are still in need of student callers; please sign up at the front desk

Senior Last Supper
Calling the Class of 2011--it's time to sign up for the Senior Last
Supper! On May 1, 2011 from 6:15-7:45pm, please join your
fellow UCC graduates in the St. Thomas More Library, where we
will provide your last supper! May and December graduates
should sign up at the front desk of the UCC or contact Mary at
mary@utcatholic.org or 512-476-7351 x 13.
UCC Workday
On Saturday, April 16th, the UCC will be hosting a workday.
This workday will be used to help prepare the building for Holy
Week and will run from roughly 9am til 3pm. If you would like
to help, sign up at the front desk or just show up at any point
during the day. Lunch will be provided!
Ministers Needed for Holy Week
Now that we have everything planned and ready to go for Holy
Week, all we need now are ministers and various other helpers.
During the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy
Saturday), we’ll need a lot of help in order to get through those
three days! There are boards in the atrium of the UCC on which
you can sign up to help with any Mass that you wish!
5th Sunday of Lent
Service, Volunteer, and Other Opportunities
Prayer Vigil for Life
The Austin Prayer Vigil for Life is scheduled to happen on Good
Friday, April 22nd. This Vigil for Life is an all day prayer vigil,
starting at 8:00am and ending around 5:00pm and will be held at
Whole Woman’s Health (8401 N IH 35 #200 Austin, TX 78753).
Come join us on this day of peaceful prayer for as long as you
can on this Holy Day of Christ’s Passion and death. For more

Mass of Healing
The EIM Office invites everyone to attend a Mass of Healing as
we recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention month. Bishop
Joe Vásquez will preside at the noon mass on Tuesday, April 12th
at St Mary’s Cathedral.
Lenten Penance Services
Through the Austin Central Deanery of the Austin Diocese, there
will be several penance services held at various churches. The
following is a list of those churches, and the times/dates they will
be hosting a penance service:

Praying for Will Lucas
Young Will Lucas, who has been stricken with a rare and
aggressive form of brain cancer, is now more than halfway
through special radiation therapy at Houston’s MD Anderson
Cancer Center. Will’s parents, Sara and Tom, and his big sister,
Darcy, thank you for your continued prayers and support through
this rough time. If you would like to learn about Will’s progress,

Uncensored Prayer: A Full-Contact Relationship with God
After the Stations of the Cross and the soup supper on Friday,
April 15, Father Brian Muzas will be giving a presentation on
how to openly communicate with God. Father Muzas, a familiar
face at the UCC, is a PhD student and a Harrington Doctoral
Fellow at UT’s Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. A
scholar of international security, defense systems, and ethics,
Father Brian investigates subjects ranging from nuclear ethics
across different religions to Cold War history. His dissertation
will explore the interaction of religion, nuclear weapons, and
state behavior. When not dealing with war, conflict, and
powerful explosives, Father Brian enjoys playing soccer and
making music. His talk tells how a shockingly graphic biblical
passage teaches us to embrace God’s tenderness by
communicating openly with Him.
