Program Description
Women Employed’s Summer Leadership Program provides a unique
opportunity for professional skill building and practical experience by
exposing a small group of interns each summer to social justice organiz-
ing, leadership training, and front-line research. The program seeks to
introduce participants to all areas of non-profit work through work-
shops, guest speakers, and projects. Students bring many assets to the
women’s movement – energy, passion, and the sensibilities of a new
generation – and we are committed to providing opportunities for you to
acquire the necessary skills and experience to become leaders.
A blend of policy advocacy work and professional development, Women
Employed’s Summer Leadership Program provides interns with first-
hand awareness of the problem of low-wage work and the tools for fu-
ture advocacy. Six to eight interns will work in a team setting. The in-
terns’ project work may consist of: organizing and interviewing women
earning low wages and analyzing their findings; creating marketing and
communication campaigns for specific Women Employed issues; con-
ducting research on issues relevant to low-wage women; or assisting
with other program work as needed. Over the course of the summer,
interns will also become familiar with the history and future of the
women’s movement; participate in professional development workshops
on effective advocacy, non-profit organizational development, and com-
munications; and explore aspects of social justice work with guest
speakers.
Women Employed, with three decades of leadership in improving
women’s economic status, has the advocacy expertise, innovative pro-
gramming, and extensive organizational connections to create a rich
experience for our interns. To learn more about Women Employed, visit

Program Details
Interns serve two days a week, from mid-June to mid-August, with ex-
act dates and days to be determined. The program includes a $1500 sti-
pend. Interns will be based at Women Employed’s downtown Chicago
