Topic: Independent Listening

Activity/Task: Self-study Listening

Description of the Task:

Students will search for videos on the Internet based on a topic provided by
the teacher. Each week, a new topic will be given together with an activity
sheet that contains several questions about the video. A reporter will be
selected randomly every week to show the video to the class and share what
s/he has learned from it based on the questions provided on the activity
sheet. Reporting should last for 5 minutes.

This Affective Assessment tool will help determine students’


attitudes/feelings towards extended class activities that require little or no
help from the teacher.

Objective:

At the end of the activity, students should be able to evaluate their


attitudes/feelings towards extended class activities that require little or no
help from the teacher.
Instruction: Put a tick () inside the box whether you
SA = Strongly Agree A = Agree D = Disagree SD = Strongly Disagree
on the following statements:

1. I like watching videos on the Internet because it’s


a way for me to relax.

2. I feel good after completing the activity sheet


even if it means that I need to watch the video
several times.

3. I believe that watching videos help me develop


my language skills because It gives me the
chance to learn new words.
4. I feel comfortable using the Internet as a means
to improve my language skills because I have
an easy access to it and most of the websites
are in English.

5. I feel that I should watch more videos other than


those assigned so I could learn more.

6. I am eager to wait for the next topic to be given


because the topics are fun, interesting, and
easy to relate to.

7. I appreciate watching the videos because I learn


new words and expressions from them.

8. I am fond of sharing what I learned from the


videos to the class because it’s just like
gossiping about a certain movie or a show
with friends.
9. I voluntarily submit my activity sheets on the
given deadline because the activity is easy to
do and doesn’t take much of my time.

10.I like working alone because I have the freedom


to manage my own time.

• Add up all the scores based on the answers of the students. The
highest score is 40 whereas the lowest is 10.

You are well motivated and willing to
perform the tasks with little or no
supervision from the teacher. You clearly
40 understand the importance of out of
class activities to help develop your
language skills.
You show slight motivation, but you are
not enthusiastic enough to do the
30-39 activities. You perform the tasks, but
your best performance cannot be
expected.
You find the tasks difficult and you
struggle managing your time. You may
20-29 be fond of watching videos on the
Internet but it’s limited to entertainment
such as music or spoof, or Thai videos.

You are not fond of watching videos on


the Internet. You find the tasks as
10 – 19
additional work and just do them
because they are required.
