El glaucoma es una neuropatía óptica progresiva asociado a daño en el campo visual y
generalmente a hipertensión ocular. Es asintomático y cuando aparecen los primeros síntomas ya
existe un daño muy avanzado en el nervio óptico. El objetivo de la perimetría automatizada es
detectar lesiones campimétricas que permitan un manejo y seguimiento adecuado. Las etapas
iniciales son de difícil diagnóstico y es aquí donde la perimetría automatizada de longitud de
onda corta, técnica altamente sensible, contribuye a la detección precoz de la enfermedad.
La presencia del efecto aprendizaje se documenta en diversos test psicofísicos, por lo que se
evalúa este efecto, postulando la hipótesis que en individuos de ambos sexos de 30 años y más,
oftalmológicamente normales, al aplicar el SWAP, se obtendría un mejoramiento significativo de
los parámetros desviación media (DM) y fluctuación a corto plazo (FC) que entrega el
campímetro; además, el aprendizaje sería mayor en la periferia del campo visual.
Para probar estos supuestos, se aplicó tres veces la perimetría automatizada de longitud de
onda corta a 37 ojos de pacientes normales, que cumplieron con los requisitos de inclusión,
usando el campímetro Humphrey, con la estrategia umbral completo. El intervalo entre cada
examen fue no menor a una semana. Los resultados se verificaron mediante análisis de varianza
y dócima de Student- Newman- Keuls, con un nivel de significación de 5%.
Se observó que los parámetros DM y FC mejoraron en los sucesivos exámenes y este
cambio es de mayor magnitud entre el primer y segundo examen. El efecto aprendizaje por fuera
de los 20º no es significativo, sin embargo, sí hubo aprendizaje por dentro de los 20º .
