“Information is Power”

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.,

Praise be to Allah s.w.t, the Almighty, eternal Guardian of the heavens and earth, Ruler over all creatures.
Peace and blessings be upon the master and the seal of the Prophet, Muhammad S.A.W.
We are grateful to meet you with the third issue of our newsletter.

This is our third edition in the AIKOL Press but we have a good reason to be present from now on in
these pages, our motivation is YOU. We want you to know us, get a feeling of what LAWSOC means,
the services we offer and how we, the members of AIKOL, experience it.

LAWSOC is a column which will take you for a ride through some of the programmes which we have
carried out, so that you can be prepared for what you will be facing in the future.

At the dawn of new century, the information is power, the power that not only keeps them abreast
of the recent trends, rather they bring people together in this great world of diversified cultures and
differences.

LAWSOC is well aware of the importance of effective communication in the modern world and has taken
considerable steps in this regard. One of the important steps in this regard is its monthly newsletter.

AIKOL Press not only provides the AIKOLians with the current news and activities of LAWSOC,
rather it will give you a spectrum of information which includes the international news, knowledge,
current legal issues and legal sector updates .This will not only help the student members of AIKOL to
increase their knowledge and awareness, rather it will also help the students to grow professional and
technically.

I would like to congratulate all LAWSOC community members that have been struggling in preparing
this AIKOL Press successfully despite having other commitment as student.
I pray to Allah that we reap the benefits that He has in plan for us and hope that this is the beginning of
another great year for Law Students Society at AIKOL.

Please feel free to contact us with any concerns, ideas, suggestions and comments.
Wish u luck for final exams and do your very best.

Wassalam.

President of Law Students’ Society 2010/2011
“Grab the Opportunities”
In the name of Allah the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful.

Peace be upon him our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW and his companions. Alhamdulillah, He
has showered His blessing upon us by giving the chance to continue our life and duty as the caliph of
Allah in this world and praise to Allah SWT because he has give us the opportunity to publish the 3rd
issue of AIKOL Press which is the last issue for this semester.

As we all know, recently we are shocked by the 8.8 scala Richter earthquake followed by tsunami
that hit Japan and had killed almost 1000 innocent people there. It caused major damages to the
country. The tsunami also hit Hawaii several hours later, but did not cause major damage. Many other
countries such as Philippines, South America, Alaska and Canada had been alerted for the tsunami
that is predicted to hit them. Isn’t it the sign from Allah so that we must aware of His power and
warnings? We should thank Him for still protecting our beloved country from that kind of disaster.

Most of us have the opinion that as a student we should concentrate and focus into our study so
that we can succeed as a good student. The question that we must think is that is it true to be a good
student we only have to pass with flying colors without involving ourselves in any programs that can
benefit us?

Thus, my brothers and sisters, I would like to encourage you to join and let’s be part of us in LAWSOC.
We will provide for you a bridge to actively participate in many beneficial programs. InsyaAllah,
during the end of this November, we will organize an annual festival which is AIKOL FESTIVAL
2011. There will be many interesting programmes during the festival. In addition to that we also will
organize AIKOL Community Service and many more. AIKOLians, grab this opportunity to join us to
serve the ummah as a whole and to mould the future legacy.

I think that’s all for this time being.

Before I end I would like to say thanks so much to all of you for supporting us and I hope all of you can
join us. Last but not least, I want to wish all the best and good luck to all AIKOLians for this coming
final exam. Do your best and prepare from now on don’t wait until the day of exam. Make sure you
finish your assignments early so that you can concentrate and focus for the final exam. I will always
pray for our success in this world and hereafter.

Wassalam.

Vice President II of Law Students Society 2010/2011
AlKitab, anyone?

# The Christian Bible If you’ve been reading the news lately, sure you had came across the story
consists of the Old of Malay Bible being detained by the government. The issue of Malay
Testament and New Bible is yet another chapter in our freedom of religion classroom. Being a
Testament multi-religious society, of course this kind of story will be seen as trying
to stir the hornet’s nest.
# “Bible” comes from Latin
biblia, meaning “books” Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) imported 5,000 Alkitab Berita Baik
from Indonesia on March 23, 2009, but the Malay Bibles together with
# The word “testament” 100 copies of other Christian literature were confiscated and detained by
means “covenant” the Home Ministry at Port Klang, and that the BSM had tried to retrieve
them for over a year.
# The Bible has 66 books
There is also a similar incident involving another Christian group,
# The Bible was written the Gideons, which had its shipment of 10,000 Malay-language Bibles
by many different authors detained in Kuching in 2009; but had the confiscation order lifted after
writing in many different Putrajaya intervened directly.
times and places
This issue had open a debate between quarters regarding the relevancy
# The Bible was written from of allowing the publication of Bible in Malay. Some say that allowing
about 1450 BC to 100 AD this will lead to mass propagation of Christian teaching to the Malays,
something that is against the provision of the Federal Constitution.
# The Bible was the first While some others think that as long as it is distributed among the
book to be printed, in 1454 Christians, then why not?
# Miles Coverdale published The Malaysian Insider reported a statement by the President of Persatuan
the first English translation Ulama Malaysia, “What’s the point of objecting to it? I know the
of the entire Bible in 1535 sentiment is that there is a fear of Malays reading the Bible, but these are
within their (Christians’) rights... there is not much we can do about it,

languages “Don’t make a big issue out of it... even the Al-Quran it has been
translated into many languages, so why can’t the Christians do the same
for the Bible?” said Sheikh Abdul Halim, a former Terengganu mufti.

While for Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, minister in the Prime Minister’s

This issue, if not being handled properly by the respective authorities,

could lead to tension among our multi-religious society. So, what say
you?
The Story of an Evil Genius

Ferdinand Marcos was known to be one of the most notorious

dictator in the modern history. But little did we know about how
genius he was, as a law student. In 1939, while incarcerated, he
graduated cum laude with a law degree from the U.P. College of Law.
While in detention Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. of Ilocos Norte
helped Marcos study for the bar exams by providing a desk lamp in
his cell, law books and reviewers. Marcos passed the bar examination
with the highest score on record, while also writing an 830-page
defense. Several people contested his score and a retake was taken Ferdinand Marcos
albeit an oral bar examination witnessed by several people. His
second bar examination resulted in a 100% score, the highest grade
obtained in the Philippine Bar.

Mr. Dewey was briefing his client, who was about to testify in his own defense. “You must swear to tell
the complete truth. Do you understand?”

The client replied that he did. The lawyer then asked, “Do you know what will happen if you don’t tell
the truth?”

The client looked back and said, “I imagine that our side will win.”

A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter
methodically placing “Love” stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes
out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them.

His curiosity getting the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is doing.
The man says “I’m sending out 1,000 Valentine cards signed, ‘Guess who?’”

“But why?” asks the man.

“I’m a divorce lawyer,” the man replies.

“Life’s A Journey”

Alhamdulillah, we meet again for the third issue of AIKOL Press, the voice of Aikolians. And this
would be the final issue for this semester. InsyaAllah, we’ll be back for the next semester.

Whether you realize it or not, this week is the last week before we embark on a stressful journey
through the final exam. Time flies fast, huh?

Surely lots of us feel very stressful during times like these, right? Assignments, presentations, projects,
etc. All of these seem to be hurdles for us to concentrate on our preparation for the final. To make it
worse, some of us may also face personal problem which affected them psychologically.

But come on, is there anyone in this whole world that doesn’t has any problem? No, right? Everyone
has their own problem. The most important thing is to confront it correctly. And to know how, do
refer to our 7 steps of defeating stress.

Problems will come and go. That’s how life’s work. It is these problems that will help us to become
a better person. Like they always say, life’s a journey, not a destination. And surely, there’s no easy
journey. See you again in the next issue of AIKOL Press, the voice of Aikolians.

Thank you.
