History:
• Munchee was one of the long-tailed macaques born in this troop.
• She was found on Tuesday morning. She was by the door of the heated lock-out area. What remained
of her arm was outside the wall, and the muscle of her arm had been eaten by something, probably a
raccoon, as a pig or coyote would most likely have removed the arm.
• After the monkeys were locked out of the heated area, we went in and found Munchee on her back
with her arm through the wall. Her face was smashed against the fencing and her right side had also
been partially eaten.
• She was removed to be examined out of the enclosure.
• There were small fly eggs on her and she was past rigor mortis. She had been dead at least 24 hours
but not more than 48 as she had been seen alive and well on Sunday.
• I believe that she was in the process of giving birth when she died. She was dilated and the baby was
in position.
NOTE: After the examination, Munchee’s body was double-bagged and then place in the deep
freeze located in the ante-room of the HIV chimp’s building.
