All: Good Afternoon everyone, from us the Group 1 would like to present to you our multimedia
presentation about the various cultures we gathered from students of our school, what it is all about,
and their traditions and beliefs.

Maikho: Before we proceed to our topic about cultural diversity, I want to start of by getting you familiar
with the raw definition of culture. Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience,
beliefs, values, attitudes, and religion by group of people generally without thinking about them.
Diversity is the quality or state of being composed of many different elements or types.

Juanda: As a cross cultural ambassador, I was responsible for gathering information about the cultures
of the students I interviewed. With the artist, we interviewed five students. Other from the 5 th grade and
the four is our classmates.

Angela: So what is the big deal of gathering information about cultures of other students? Well we
believe that culture is a strong part of people's lives. It influences their views, their values, their humor,
their hopes, their loyalties, and their worries and fears. So when you are communicating with people, it
helps to have some perspective and understanding of their cultures. Do you agree? How might this
apply to you?

Mieko: At the same time, we can't pretend our cultures and differences don't matter. We can't gloss
over differences and pretend they don't exist, wishing we could all be alike, and we can't pretend that
discrimination doesn't exist.

Maikho: The world is becoming increasingly diverse and includes people of many religions, languages,
economic groups, and other cultural groups. It is becoming clear that in order to build communities that
are successful at improving conditions and resolving problems, we need to understand and appreciate
many cultures, establish relationships with people from cultures other than our own, and build strong
alliances with different cultural groups.

Juanda: So here are some of the information we gathered:

The first student said that her culture is all about art. Her traditions and beliefs are:

-Everything is possible if you believe in yourself.

-Everything has creativity in it.

-Time heals wounds.

She believes that understanding other cultures may be the key to get along with them. She said that it
depends on the situation if different cultures are a hindrance. To respect different cultures she will try
and learn them, study about their traditions and beliefs and know their history.
Mieko: The second student said her ethnicity is Filipino and Kapampangan. Her traditions and beliefs
are:

-Everyone is in a healthy life

-Someone makes us feel happy, better, and comfortable

-God protects us all the time

She believes that understanding the culture of others makes us become better global citizens by getting
some knowledge about the culture of others and know about them. She believes that different cultures
are not a hindrance by studying all different cultures in the world and from being united to
communicate each other. To respect other people’s traditions and beliefs, she will respect the elders,
eat the right food about their culture, and study about their traditions, beliefs, and history.

Angela: The third student said her ethnicity is Filipino, Ilocano, and Waray. Her traditions and beliefs are:

-Lighting a candle at night when in someone's death anniversary

-We believe that the prayer is most important manner and the best

- We believe that without hard work, you cannot succeed

She believes that understanding the cultures of others will be the way to have a good communication of
others. She believes that different cultures are not a hindrance because it's important of making friends.
To respect other’s traditions and beliefs, she wants to understand their culture very well.

Maikho: The Fourth student said that she is an Ilocano from Ilocos. Her traditions and beliefs are:

-If there is a funeral, do not look back while going to the church.

- If there is a funeral, always wear black

- If there is a funeral, always walk to the church, don't drive.

She believes that by understanding the cultures of others we can understand why others do certain
things on their routine. She believes that different cultures are not a hindrance because we are the only
ones who deny other people's cultures and make the differences a hindrance from making different
cultures united. We can respect other people’s traditions and beliefs by not mocking, insulting, or
teasing them.

Juanda: The fifth student’s religion is from Iglesia ni Cristo. Her traditions and beliefs are:

-We need to worship God on wed/thurs/sat/sun

-We believe that Jesus is not a God

-We don't have Christmas

She believes that understanding the cultures of others can unite us and be one in this country. She
believes that if you want to be friends with others, there's no hindrance. To respect other people’s
traditions and beliefs, we must understand their culture, traditions, and beliefs.

All: Effective communication with people of different cultures is especially challenging. Cultures provide
people with ways of thinking--ways of seeing, hearing, and interpreting the world. Thus the same words
can mean different things to people from different cultures, even when they talk the "same" language.
When the languages are different, and translation has to be used to communicate, the potential for
misunderstandings increases. That’s why learning about other cultures will make you more motivated to
visit and find out what it is really like. Understanding other cultures may also help you better understand
and accept cultural differences that may be a challenge without visiting the country of the cultural
difference that you are learning about.
