Barbra Wilson, owner of Christina’s, goes back to the ba-
sics: “The key element of a woman’s wardrobe is a good-
fitting bra. It restores a woman’s waistline,” she says.
“The clothes this year are amazingly wearable. The most
perfect item for a woman’s wardrobe is a simple white cot-
ton T-shirt.” She’s selling more slim, straight-legged pants
than the new wide-leg style. Pants come in cotton, are
lighter than ever, and easy to care for.
Wilson favors purples, reds and blues, which will “spice
up” a wardrobe.
To accessorize, she advises, “Pearls are never out of
date; they brighten a woman’s face.” Christina’s is carry-

“We’re coming out of the grays and the winter doldrums,”
says Maria Chapman, store manager of JJ Wells. “Beautiful,
vibrant color is being well received – lime green, pink, tur-
quoise, and yellow. Several bright colors can be mixed in
one outfit. Stripes are very important, whether in a sweater
or knit top, a jacket, T-shirt or tank. The stripes may be ir-
regular, wide or narrow – they don’t have to look nautical.”
“Lace is gaining momentum, trending in skirts and dresses,”
Chapman says. “Lace skirts may be worn with a T-shirt and
flip-flops, or dressed up with a blouse and heels.” Lace is
also showing up in handbags and shoes, and as patterns
in fabric.
While higher rise pants and trousers with wider legs are
trending, lower-rise, straight-leg pants are in style too!
Different body types require different pant and jacket styles.
Trench coats are back – classic and timeless in solids or
more contemporary in printed fabrics.

Walters & Hogsett
At Walters & Hogsett Fine Jewelers, the look for spring is big and bold.
“Bold rings are worn on any finger; I’m seeing gals with middle finger
rings,” says Gail Hogsett. Any metal, any color gemstone is in. Earrings are
bigger; look for hoops and fun dangle earrings. With both fine watches and
playful ones, the bigger the better.
“We are seeing more demand for sterling silver and stainless steel. Re-
becca does these and also a line of bronze metal bathed in 18 karat rose or
yellow gold,” Hogsett says. Long chains and the layered look continue to
be strong. Mix chains with pearls and colored beads – wear the chains long
or double and triple them.
Colored gemstones are popular for rings, earrings, pendants, and brace-
lets. “We’re finding interest in colored, rough-cut gemstones, like blue
topaz, peridot, and rose quartz.” A bold statement watch by TW Steel. From the Grandeur

Healthy Living:
Wine Health Benefits

By Thom Collins

B
y now you probably know studies have shown that
drinking wine in moderation can be beneficial to
an adult’s heart health. But what kind of wine is
best in that regard, and how much provides a benefit?
For heart health, choose red, and choose dry, said Hollie
Wendling, online sales and marketing director at Liquor
Mart in Boulder.
“The less sweet the better it is for you,” she said. “The
skins and seeds of red grapes have anti-oxidants called
flavonoids in them. It helps lower your bad cholesterol and
increases the good cholesterol.”
The sweeter wines — most whites and some of the
sweeter reds — contain more sugars and fewer anti-
oxidants. But dryer reds, including common varieties like
Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or red Zinfandel,
contain the most anti-oxidant properties.
“One 4- to 6-ounce glass of red wine a day can be good
for you,” Wendling said.
In addition, moderate consumption of beer can have
positive health effects, according to studies conducted dur-
ing the recent past. One study published in the American
Journal of Epidemiology found moderate beer drinking in
middle-aged men reduced the study group’s risk of devel-
oping kidney stones. A Lovely Boutique

Other studies claim moderate beer imbibing can reduce

the risk of heart attacks, citing the high levels of vitamin B6
found in beer.
Of course, moderation is always important, Wendling
added.
“The key is not to over indulge,” she said.
