FedEx Ground Statement - regarding safety concerns at North Pittsburgh Facility –

(via email on 12-28-20)

“The safety and well-being of our team members and customers is our top priority and we take
these allegations very seriously. As an essential business, we are proud of our team members
for their ongoing dedication to serving our customers and communities. We are closely
monitoring guidance by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other public
health organizations and are taking recommended precautions in terms of team member and
customer health and safety, including implementing symptom and temperature screenings as
well as process changes in all locations to enable social distancing. We continue to work
diligently to provide supplies across the network to assist with hygiene, including hand soap,
disinfecting wipes, latex gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer.

When there is a confirmed case in one of our facilities, we take all necessary precautions and
follow guidance from public health organizations related to reporting and containment of the
virus, including:
• Informing team members, service providers and vendors in the building,
• Identifying anyone who has had close contact with the infected individual to ensure they
are taking the recommended precautionary measures, and
• Thoroughly sanitizing potentially affected areas of the facility.

Finally, we are encouraging our team members to take any signs of illness seriously, seek
medical attention as needed, and promoting guidance from leading public health organizations,
and other experts, on how to keep the workplace safe. Just recently, our safety department
conducted a review of our North Pittsburgh station to ensure compliance with recommended
safety protocols in place across our network.”

11 Investigates follow up questions. FedEx responses in red:

1. How many employees at the Zelienople FedEx North Pittsburgh facility have tested positive for
COVID since March? - While we can confirm that some FedEx team members across our
enterprise have reported a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis, we aren’t sharing specific locations
and numbers at this time.

2. How many employees at the Zelienople, North Pittsburgh, facility have tested positive since
March? – As above.

3. How many employees at all your facilities in the Pittsburgh area have tested positive since
March? – As above.

4. How many of those employees are drivers who deliver to the public? - As above.
5. Are you concerned that any customers are being put at risk? - We’ve taken a number of steps to
support the health and safety of service providers and their employees, as well as the customers
with whom they interact. For example, to help adhere to social distance guidelines, signatures
are no longer required for most deliveries. We’re also working with service providers to
accommodate special requests from customers around modified store hours, closings and
delivery alternatives that best comply with government restrictions and safety guidance. Most
importantly, we are in constant communication to ensure service providers have access to the
latest and best guidance from the CDC and other public health organizations. Anyone making a
delivery on behalf of FedEx is required to wear a mask according to state and/or local orders, or
in situations where social distancing is difficult to maintain.

6. Employee says they are not notified when a team member in the building tests positive--
**You indicate employees are notified. How is this policy carried out? Are all employees notified
by email, text, or other means? - When there is a confirmed case in one of our facilities, we take
all necessary precautions and follow guidance from public health organizations related to
reporting and containment of the virus, which includes verbally informing team members,
service providers and vendors in the building.
**What is the directive to employees who come into contact with those who test positive? – We
follow all procedures and protocol as outlined by the CDC and other public health organizations
with respect to informing an employee of coming in to close contact with someone who tested
positive as well as conduct contact tracing to identify any possible further exposure.
**Are employees told to quarantine or continue working, when they have come into close
contact with someone who tests positive? – We follow all recommended guidance from the CDC
and other public health organizations with respect to quarantine measures.

You also identified several safety protocols at the North Pittsburgh station which the employee says are
not being followed. We have pictures to show some of the issues.

7. Masks not being worn regularly in common areas—including at windows greeting other
employees and in hallways.
• The employee says she has complained about this to her supervisor multiple times, but
is not taken seriously.
• The employee went so far as to make her own sign to post asking people to wear masks.
**Why is this not being enforced? Is anything being done about it? – Please provide these images
for us to review confirming the location where they were taken as well as a date / timestamp so that
we can better assess and address these claims. (Images were provided. Awaiting response).

8. Sanitization stations empty

• The employee says sanitization stations which are supposed to have masks and hand
sanitizer are often left empty.
**Why are these stations not kept stocked? - Cleaning supplies, gloves and hand sanitizer have
been supplied to all FedEx Ground locations. If there is a lack of supplies at any location, we ask
that employees immediately notify their manager so a supply order can be placed. Throughout
the pandemic, FedEx has mobilized a sourcing response team which is solely focused on
ensuring our employees have access to PPE and cleaning supplies.
9. Cross contamination risks. Employee says all employees can access the breakroom, “Market
Place”—trays and boxes of unwrapped food are left out to share, allowing for multiple people to
touch items.
**Are there any restrictions on breakroom access and usage? If not, should there be? –Our
sanitation and social distancing protocols are enforced throughout all areas of our facilities,
including all breakrooms and non-work areas.

Are employees with safety concerns and/or underlying conditions allowed to work from home if their
job duties make that possible? If not, why not? - As the situation with COVID-19 remains fluid, the
safety of our team members, vendors and customers remains paramount. In addition to adhering to
guidance issued by public health officials, our team members are encouraged to take any signs of illness
seriously and seek medical attention as needed. FedEx Ground continuously evaluates the needs of its
workforce to determine how to safely provide essential services to our customers through this critical
period. Some team members have the ability to work remotely depending on their job function and
FedEx Ground makes the determination on how best to utilize that capability based on the needs of our
workforce and
