Farmer Jones attempts
to take his farm back
L
eading an armed group of humans to
Animal Farm in early October, Farmer
Jones staged a surprise attack on the new
owners at his property and tried to regain
control of his farm but was defeated.
The attack goes back to when Snowball, a
porker pig, went through Farmer Jones’
stuff, and found a book on Julius Cesar’s
campaigns. “I found a book on Julius Cesar
in Jones’s cabinet,” said Snowball. “I think
we should use the book to plan defensive
operations for the farm just in case he
comes back.”
Over time, he became the pig in charge of
defensive operations. As he and his com-
rades had practiced so many times, they
quickly went to their positions and the
battle started.
As the farmers came into range, Snowball
released his first attack. About 35 pigeons
flew over the heads of the farmers and
released their waste. As the men were
distracted, the geese that had been hiding
in the hedges ran our and started pecking
at the farmer’s feet. The men quickly han-
dled the situation and easily took control,
shooing the geese and pigeons away. That
was exactly what Snowball wanted. This
attack was only to draw the humans closer
to the second attack and also to make
them feel more confident.
As the humans continued, they came with-
in range of the second attack. In the se-
cond wave of battle, some of the larger
animals came into play. Snowball led this
wave with all of the sheep and Muriel and
a donkey named Benjamin.
As they fought, they were being over pow-
ered, just as Snowball had planned. When
Snowball felt overpowered, he released a
squeal, which was the sign of a retreat. As
the humans felt like they had won the
battle, they began to get cocky.
As the second wave fled, the farmers be-
gan chasing the animals to finish them off.
As Snowball was leading them into the
cowshed, the third wave ambushed them.
This wave consisted of horses and cows
along with the rest of the pigs. This wave
was the main trap and where the animals
won their battle.
The second they were well into the yard,
Snowball gave the signal to charge. As he
ran in himself towards Jones, Jones shot
him in the back. Snowball was okay
because it only scraped him instead of
going into his body. The pellets then hit
a sheep that died.
Then, their big weapon, a huge stallion
named Boxer, came up onto his hind
legs and smashed down on one of
Jones’s men.
As they started to flee, Boxer became
very upset because he didn’t mean to
kill the man. “I have no wish to take life,
not even human life,” Boxer exclaimed
with his eyes full of tears. “The only
good human is a dead human,” Snow-
ball said to Boxer. It turned out that the
stable man had only been paralyzed
and had run off too.
After the end of this battle, the animals
set up a funeral for their comrade who
was killed, then finished the funeral
with the singing of Beasts of England.
The Animal Hero First Class award,
which is presented to the bravest ani-
mals and most valuable warriors, was
presented to Boxer and Snowball. Boxer
received the award because of his mas-
sive strike on the young, stable lad.
Snowball received the award because
of his bravery and leadership in the
battle. Animal Hero Second Class was
given to the sheep that had died.
Meet Boxer
B
oxer was not very intellectual, yet
he made up for that in power. Boxer
grew up on Animal Farm and always had
no opinion about Farmer Jones.
Then, when he was 2 ½, Farmer Jones
sent his mother away, not to be seen
again by the animals of Manor Farm. As
Boxer tried to cope with the stress of his
mother gone, he learned to care for him-
self and become a powerful stallion.
In his teenage years, Boxer battled with
his friends, Ed, Assistance, and Roscoe.
Boxer fought with his friends for hours at
a time having huge competitions to see
who was the most powerful stallion.
When these battles took place, Boxer
would usually lose and have no self-
confidence for himself.
One day something extraordinary hap-
pened. Boxer was entered into a horse
riding competition and won it with ease,
according to a boar named Old Major
who witnessed the event. “Boxer won by
far and with ease,” said Old Major.
While Boxer was wondering how this
could possibly happen, he realized the
competition he won was mostly based
on strength, which he thought he didn’t
have. This event boosted Boxer’s self-
confidence so high; he felt he could do
almost anything.
As Boxer grew up, his strength became
overwhelming. Animals on the farm were
convinced he had the power of all three
of his friends combined.
As time went on, Boxer began to mature.
He fell into a depression when Jones sold
his three best friends, Ed, Assistance and
Roscoe to the slaughterhouse
When Boxer fell into this depression of
his, he would graze in a small paddock
beyond the orchard. A donkey named
Benjamin grew quite fond of him and
they became friends. The reason this
donkey took such a strong liking to Boxer
was Benjamin was always depressed as
where Boxer was only partly depressed.
These two would graze together in the
paddock, not saying a word. “Boxer
would usually go sit in the paddock with
his friend, Benjamin while mourning his
friends.”
After a while, Boxer grew out of his de-
pression and only went to the paddock
to remember his friends. He got out of
his depression by working hard. He be-
came Jones’s best worker and someone
to look up to.
One day and old boar named Old Major
gave a speech about how animals should
be free to do what they want and not
have to make food for the humans. Sad-
ly, Boxer did not pay attention to this
speech due to how he was mostly staring
at how creepy Old Major’s tusks were.
Boxer began paying attention when he
heard a crackled voice start singing (Old
Major). He loved the tune to this song
and could not stop singing it no matter
what. The tune and words were the only
things Boxer had ever memorized com-
pletely.
A few days later, Old Major passed
away. A few days after the death of Old
Major, the rebellion happened. If Boxer
never helped to kick the humans out of
the farm, the rebellion would have never
been successful. As two pigs named
Snowball and Napoleon took over the
farm as the head, the animals felt en-
couraged to work harder. Boxer created
his own motto of “I will work harder!”
The first thing the two leaders planned
for the farm was to teach them as much
as possible about reading and the alpha-
bet. Boxer only managed to learn A B C D
and not any more. When Boxer tried to
learn E F G H, he forgot A B C D so he just
stuck with the first four letters of the
alphabet.
Later in his life, Boxer had a task to do
with all the their animals. Boxer and all
the others had to create a windmill for
the farm under the commands of Napo-
Boxer was a great asset to the project,
waking up earlier than anyone else to lug
stone up the hill. The only way for the ani-
mals to break large pieces of stone they
had found was to carry them up a hill and
drop them. This required a lot of strength.
At times when the animals thought they
were going to drop the stone, Boxer kept a
steady foot and saved them
When the windmill was almost complete,
Snowball destroyed it, even though some
animals thought it was just a storm. As they
worked hard, Boxer worked even harder.
One day, he created another motto,
“Napoleon is always right.”
While the animals were completing the
windmill one day, Napoleon called a
meeting outside the farm by someones’s
gun. As soon as they all gathered, Napole-
on ordered his dogs to attack some porkers
after they had admitted to conspiring with
Snowball to plot his murder.
After these dogs got a taste of the blood,
they went mad and charged at Boxer. As
one dog jumped at him, he put his foot out
and caught the dog and slammed it to the
floor. When Boxer looked up at Napoleon,
to see if he should kill the dog, Napoleon
ordered him to let go. When Boxer did, the
dog whimpered back to his brothers.
Boxer watched many of his comrades’ die
in the next few minutes of his life. He cov-
ered up his emotions the same way he had
covered up his emotions about his three
teenage friends -- by working harder. In
this case, he worked harder on the wind-
mill.
Once again, after they completed it, some
farmers came to destroy it and succeeded.
Boxer put in so much strain that other ani-
mals started to worry about his health,
telling him to take it easy and relax more.
But as the dedicated worker refused, he
started getting weaker. He had fought in
two successful battles and had been a valu-
able asset to the entire farm.
He was also at the retiring age for a horse
on the farm. One day, when Boxer was
working late at night, he collapsed and
could not get up.
As this matter was attended to immediate-
ly, Boxer told his friends that he was going
to retire after going to the hospital and
receiving care. He said he would relax with
Benjamin and hopefully watch the windmill
rise once again.
Little did anyone on the farm know how
evil their leader, Napoleon was. Napoleon
tricked all the animals in the farm, includ-
ing Boxer, by saying that he was going to a
hospital, yet he was actually going to the
knackers (slaughterhouse) never to be seen
by anyone again.
Boxer was mourned on the farm for some
time before he too, was forgotten about.
