1. PURPOSE OF THE DOCUMENT

This document contains technical s p e c i f i c a t i o n s that will be applied in the

external and internal superficial treatments for DAF tank.

2. EXTERNAL TREATMENT WITH PAINT COATING

The external superficial treatment process of DAF tank is regulated by ISO

12944 standard.

2.1 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

As a requisite of carbon steel to be painted the following conditions are required:

- All welds shall be beveled with no sharp edges

- No superficial oil or greases

- No previous chemical attacks and no porosities

Sandblast cleaning will be applied to the whole internal surface in order to

get an SP10, white metal termination, in accordance with SSPC standard. The
surface obtained must be totally clean, rugged and free of any loose or fragile
material.

2.2 PAINT

2.2.1 PRIMER COAT

This is the first layer applied to the substrate. It must have the following
characteristics:

Adherence: The product adheres by means of primary valences or chemical

links. In this way, paints high in inorganic Zinc (ZIO) must be chosen. Also
adherence could be achieved by secondary valence links. This is a
characteristic of epoxy or modified epoxy products.

Anticorrosion Protection: Primary layers must have pigments that allow paint to
have anticorrosive properties by means of cathodic protection mechanism
(Zinc) or by means of anodic protection mechanism (Phosphates). Due to
environmental regulations lead and chrome based pigments are not being
currently specified.

Taking in account both preliminary considerations, high Zinc content paint

(inorganic Zinc silicate) will be selected.

The thickness shall be 3 [mill] on dry basis.

2.2.2 INTERMEDIATE LAYER AND FINISH LAYER

The principal mechanism of the intermediate layer is to provide a seal or

“barrier effect layer”, providing some impermeability between the primer and
the finish layer.

This paint shall be epoxy.

The thickness shall be 1 [mill] on dry basis.

After this layer is dry the finish layer of epoxy paint will be apllied.
The thickness shall be 2 [mill] on dry basis.

3. INTERNAL FRP COATING

Is very important the selection of the best method of internal coating.

The type of internal coating selected is with FRP application. The technical
specification for this process is as follows:

3.1 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

As a requisite of carbon steel to be coated the following conditions are required:

- All welds shall be beveled with no sharp edges

- No superficial oil or greases

- No previous chemical attacks and no porosities

Sandblast cleaning will be applied to the whole internal surface in order to

get an SP10, white metal termination, in accordance with SSPC standard. The
surface obtained must be totally clean, rugged and free of any loose or fragile
material.

3.2 PRIMER COAT

A primer coat with high elasticity characteristics will be applied. The thickness
is 0,1 [mm] and the purpose is the steel impregnation so that it does
not absorb the resin of the following FRP layer during its application. This
layer also provides a chemical barrier against corrosion.

3.3 REINFORCING LAYER

Low viscosity Epoxi-Vinilister resin and 1 type E, MAT-450 [gr/m2],

multidirectional felts shall be applied in order to obtain an average thickness of
0.75 to 1 [mm].

This material has excellent mechanical properties, very good corrosion

resistance and easy to apply by spray, hand-lay up or filament winding
methods.

3.4 SURFACE FINISH

The process shall be finished with the application of Gel – Coat plastic paint.

These are not reinforced resins that become the surface of the FRP. Gel –
coat has three principal purposes:

a) Protection against humidity and weather

b) Smooth finish and brilliant color to the FRP

c) Surface for possible future application of special paints

Each resin coat will have about 0.15 [mm] thickness and 2 layers will be
applied in order to get a final thickness of the surface finish of 0.3 [mm] approx.
