The formula of a hydrated salt of Barium is BaCl2. x H2O. If 1.936g of
this compound gives 1.846g of anh. BaSO4 upon treatment with
H2SO4, calculate x.
Percentage labelling of Oleum H2S2O7

Oleum is a mixture of H2SO4 and SO3 i.e., H2S2O7. This is obtained by

passing SO3 in solution of H2SO4. To dissolve free SO3, dilution of
oleum is done with water. In that process, free SO3 reacts with H2O to
form H2SO4 and mass of solution increases.
Dilution is continued till the entire SO3 gets converted to H2SO4.

H2SO4 + SO3 + H2O → 2H2SO4

Oleum

When 100 g sample of oleum is diluted with desired weight of H 2O (in

gm), then total mass of H2SO4 obtained after dilution is known as %
labelling in oleum.
118% oleum → 100g oleum when diluted with 18g H2O, gives 118 g pure H2SO4

SO3 + H2O → H2SO4; In 100 g Oleum → 80 g SO3 + 20g H2SO4

80g 18g 98g

% Labelling= Total amount(gm) of H2SO4 available after dilution.

● Calculate the composition of 109% oleum

Calculate the composition of 109% oleum.
0.5g of fuming H2SO4 (oleum) is diluted with water. This solution is
completely neutralized by 26.7ml of 0.4 N NaOH. The percentage of
free SO3 in the sample is______.
Volume Strength of H2O2

If a sample of H2O2 is labelled as 𝒙 volume, it means that 1 volume

of H2O2 solution gives 𝒙 volumes of O2 (g) on complete dissociation.
What is the molarity of ‘‘11.2 V’’ H2O2?

A. 1M
B. 2M
C. 5.6 M
D. 11.2 M
