Congo N’Jili airport that I had
seen in 19 years. Friday was a day of rest and adjustment with small talk concerning the
coming week’s plans. Saturday we took a five hour drive on brand new pavement that the
Chinese had paved in exchange for minerals. We saw many villages without a true Gospel
witness. More churches need to be planted in that area!

S unday morning Pastor O’Dell, my pastor from our home church, preached in Sunday
school while I translated. He preached from John 3:30, “He must increase, but I
must decrease.” It was now my turn to preach. The rain began to pour down, driving

everybody into the church; attendance was over 300. I preached on, “The roots and the
fruits of the trees of Pride and Humility.” After the morning services we had a fellow-
ship dinner with a yummy African feast of fufu, greens, fish, beef, plantains, hot pepper
sauce, and pop. Afterwards we sat around and talked and greeted the believers and the
choir.

M onday was a 12 hour day beginning in the morning with our Christian Academy,
showcasing each grade, Kindergarten thru 6th grade. The Academy in total has
386 students. Afterwards we encouraged the director and teachers in the Word of God. We Our Church Building
ate lunch and made a few hut visits and prayed for the hurting. Returning back to school,
we preached to the junior high-high school students, and encouraged the director and
teachers in the Word of God. Following this, we preached to the College director, teachers,
students, and a few graduates. We rushed to meet the group of police that attend our
church, ate supper, then, walked in darkness only being able to see when the lighting lit the
night skies. We ate supper again less than 20 minutes from the last supper, finally return-
ing home by 8:30 PM.

T uesday was a six hour leadership meeting to encourage our Congolese pastors, mis-
sionaries, teachers, and graduates in the faith and to hear their problems, desires, and
vision for the great work that is set before them. We helped bolster their spirits with Scrip-

tural ideas, principles, and solutions. It was a very profitable time.

W ednesday we met with 33 ladies from our church. What beautiful voices of har-
mony. We taught them about unity and loving your neighbor. Many questions were
asked, and Biblical answers of encouragement were given. Pastor and I hung out under a
tree for a few hours waiting for the Wednesday services. We hopped into an old taxi and
drove down and wound way through foot paths and dirt roads. Finally, we were let out at
the end of the village and walked five minutes to the meeting. We preached in an Open-

T hursday Pastor O’Dell braved it alone to go into the capital city, Kinshasa where he
shopped for souvenirs. On his way there the car had two flat tires. Preacher finally
purchased his items and then they went to a garage (a spot under a shady tree) and waited
while they fixed the back right axle. Meanwhile I counseled with Pastor Ilunga, the pastor
of Community Baptist Church of Maluku, for five hours concerning the Leadership meet-
ing.

I n summary, we had a wonderful time, besides stomach cramps, cold bucket showers,
scary car rides, and a scorching hot tropical sun. We encouraged believers, caught a
fresh vision, and heard the heart aches and ministry needs. Praise the Lord for His work! Pastor O’Dell
