Situation of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Québec

Situation in Québec
The World Health Organization has o cially declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
For now, the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is under control in Québec, but the present
weeks are critical. Community transmission of the virus now extends to all regions of Québec. The
Government is taking all the necessary measures to contain the contagion as much as possible.
The latest data of the evolution of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours in Québec reveal:

1,055 new cases, bringing the total number of people infected to 91,018.

Also, 1 new death has occurred in the last 24 hours, to which are added 11 deaths which have
occurred between October 9 and October 14 and 2 deaths which have occurred before
October 9. However, the total is at 6,018 due to the withdrawal of 1 death that the investigation
has shown not to be attributable to COVID-19.

The number of hospitalizations increased by 14 compared to the previous day, for a cumulative
total of 507. Among these, the number of people in intensive care increased by 4, for a total
of 87.

The samples conducted on October 14 amount to 29,028 for a total of 2,752,073.

Note that the majority of data are presented according to the day they were entered. They are
extracted at 4 p.m. at the date shown and cover the preceding 24 hours. However, the availability
of the data on samples involves an additional delay of 24 hours and these correspond to the
number of samples taken on the date shown. It should also be noted that the data prior to those of
the last 24 hours presented in the column Deaths have been adjusted according to the actual dates
of death. This explains the variation of some data compared to those presented in previous press
releases. The daily death toll is in uenced by the time required for the physician to report the
death, the time required to complete the investigation to con rm that the death was attributable to
COVID-19, and the entry into the system.

In Canada, COVID-19 is a serious health threat, and the situation is evolving daily. The risk will vary
between and within communities, but given the increasing number of cases in Canada, the risk to
Canadians is considered high. You can nd information about the outbreak in the Current
situation  (https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-
infection.html#a1) section on the Government of Canada’s site.

Scenarios for the evolution of COVID-19

At a time when the authorities are considering a gradual resumption of economic, social and
clinical activities, the experts looked into the impacts it could have on the trajectory of the
pandemic and on the resources to cope with it. For more information, see the page Projections des
