Therapy Dogs
visit Brookside

Students in 2nd grade at Brookside Elementary were visited by therapy dogs

through the Riley Mackenzie Fund. They provide education at the grammar
school level with their Certified Therapy Dogs to teach children how to properly
care for animals, how to approach stray animals, and why it is important to spay
and neuter animals. Each student received a bookmark. Pictured, students get
to meet the dogs.

Big Rapids High School Hosted Blood Drive

Big Rapids High School National Honors Society hosted their annual American
Red Cross Blood Drive on January 24th. NHS students organize, promote and
run the blood drive under the supervision of the NHS adviser Glen Phelps.
When asked how long has BRHS been hosting blood drives? Mr. Phelps
stated that, "Big Rapids High
School has been hosting blood
drives for at least eleven years".
Mr. Phelps also replied, "We
have an average of 20% of the
junior and senior student
body participate in the blood
drives”. Students who are a
junior or senior can donate blood. Students were encouraged to get a good night
sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before giving blood. The Blood drive was open
to the public as well. Pictured, Senior Ben Straley gives blood while other
students are waiting for their turn to give.
