Oxford Engineering College (OEC) is an elite institution of the prestigious KSM


Educational Trust, Trichy, managed by veterans and philanthropists. It is founded with a
zeal and ambition to promote and disseminate knowledge, to promote quality education
in the field of engineering to students.

The dynamic and rapidly growing college started on 14th November 1998, has gloriously

FACILITIES

Personality and Character Development

All students shall enroll, on admission, in any one of the personality and character
development programmes (the NCC/NSS/ NSO/YRC) and undergo training for about 80
hours and attend a camp of about ten days. The training shall include classes on hygiene
and health awareness and also training in first-aid. Ten days of special camp is however
exempted.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

NSS unit will have social service activities like Blood donation camps, Eye camps Clean
& Green Campus are some of the general socio environmental works undertaken by our
College / Institution.

MARTIAL ARTS / KARATE


I YEAR B.E / B Tec Students

Fox Martial Arts and Sports Academy has organized Karate training for the I year B.E/ B
B.tech boys and girls students of Oxford Engineering College, Trichy.

Karate trainings were given in the evening hours between 3.30 – 5.30 pm every alternate
days for various branch students like Mechanical, civil ECE,EEE,CSE and IT. Necessary
Martial Arts uniforms were distributed to all the students.

The Karate training programme continued in the second semester also. The above
programme helped the students to get confidence in their life and improve their mental
strength.

During the sports day function trained Karate students demonstrated the martial arts
programme in front of the chief guest assistant commissioner of police K.Selvaraj and
District Sports Officer Trichy Mr.Punniya Moorthy

Youth Red Cross (YRC)

This will have activities related to social special camps of 10 days. While the training
activities will normally be during the week services in and around College / Institution.
However YRC will not have ends, the camp will normally be during vacation period.
Every student shall put in a mimumim of 75% attendance in the training and attend the
camp (except YRC) compulsorily. The training camp (except YRC) shall be completed
during the first year of the programme. However, for valid reasons, the Head of the
Institution may permit a student to complete this requirement in the second year.

Leo Club

The college provides a state-of-the art hostel to all the inmates. Located conveniently in
the proximity of the college campus, the well-furnished separate hostels for boys and
girls are equipped with modern amenities and are efficiently administrated to provide

Hostel

Every student is required to observe discipline and decorous behaviour both inside and
outside the college and not to indulge in any activity which will tend to bring down the
prestige of the University.

General Rules

To maintain decorum in the college campus Students should follow these guidelines.

• Student should greet the members of staff when they meet them first on that day.

• Students are expected to dress neatly and modestly in accordance with normal etiquette and
decency. Dress code is formal shirt and full pants for male students & salwar kameez, chudidar
with dhupatta for girls.

• The Morning session starts at 9.00 a.m. and ends at 12.30 p.m. The afternoon session begins at
1.30 p.m. and ends at 5.00 p.m. Late comers are not permitted to enter the college.

• Possession & Use of cell phones in the campus is strictly prohibited.

• Identity cards given to students must be kept safely with them and should produce the same, when
demanded, while in college

• No Student is allowed to leave the class room during the working hours, without the permission of
the Lecturer concerned.

• Silence should be maintained inside the classrooms even if there is no faculty.

• Students should attend the first and last working days of the college during each Semester failing
which disciplinary action will be taken.

• Students should be inside the classroom in their seats 5 minutes before the first bell of the day and
also before the afternoon session starts.

• Students who misbehave the class hours/ lab/ meetings/ functions/ seminars/ Contests/playground
will be suspended from the college for a period of 15 days immediately.

• Writing or marking any marks on the walls, benches, and desks inside the college is strictly
prohibited.

• Students are expected to read the general and department notice boards. Failing to see the notice
board will not be accepted as an excuse for not complying with. Those who tamper the notices
will be punished severely.
• While attending practical sessions and workshops students should be dressed in the appropriate
uniform decided by the respective departments.

• Ragging is banned. If any student is found indulged in it, he / she will be seriously dealt with, and
disciplinary action will be taken.

• Student should not wander in the verandahs of the college during and in between the class hours
without prior permission from the lecturer.

and persons nominated by the Principal. It will deal with all matters concerned with
student’s indiscipline and as deemed necessary to maintain the discipline and decorum in
the college.

• Students desiring to go out of the college premises, between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. should obtain
a gate pass from the HOD and register the same with the security-in-charge.

• Attendance:

a. Leave will be granted in case of continued illness which shall be supported by a


medical certificate obtained from a registered medical.

b. Leave can be applied only in specific application format and handed over to the
respective class coordinator at least three days in advance.

c. All leave letters should bear the signature as noted below:

Day Scholars: Father / Mother / Guardian

Hostellers: Principal, HOD, Deputy Warden

Local private stay students - Respective Councellor.

d. If students absent for five consecutive days, suitable actions will be taken and will be
intimated to the parents/ guardian.

e. If there is a delay or no proper response from the parents / guardian, the student will be
suspended from the college minimum for one week without any further notice.

f. Student who puts in 75% of attendance and above is only allowed to appear for
University Semester Examinations as per university regulations.
g. Students should attend all the unit, periodical tests and model exams and secure pass
marks. The performance of students will be reviewed. Any lapses will be viewed
seriously.

Academic Rules

1. Duration of the Programme

A Student is expected to complete the B.E., /B.Tech.,programme in 8 semesters


(four academic years) but in any case not more than 14 semesters for HSC
candidates and not more than 12 semesters for lateral Entry Diploma
Candidates. End-semester Examination will ordinarily follow immediately after
the last working day of the semester.

2. Requirements for Completion of a Semester:

A candidate who has fulfilled the following conditions shall deem to have satisfied
the requirements for completion of a semester. He/She secures not less than
90% of overall attendance in that semester taking into account the total number
of periods in all courses put together attended by the candidate as against the
total number of periods in all courses offered during that semester. However,
candidates who have attendance between 65% and 74% (secured short fall due
to medical reasons only) will be permitted to appear for the regular examination.
However, candidates representing University in State/ National/ International/
Inter University Sports events with prior permission from the Head of the
Institution are given exemption of 10% in attendance and such candidates shall
be permitted to sit for the current semester examination. Candidates who do not
complete the semester will not be permitted to write the end-semester
examination and are not permitted to go to the next semester.

3. Procedures for awarding marks for internal assessment:

Theory courses

Three tests, each carrying 100 marks, shall be conducted by the Departments I.
The total marks obtained in all the tests put together for 300, shall be reduced to
20 marks.

Practical Courses

Every practical exercise / experiment shall be evaluated based on conduct of


experiment / exercise and records maintained. There will be at least one mid
semester test. The criteria for arriving the internal assessment marks (20 marks)
shall be decided by the Head of the Institution and will be announced at the
beginning of every semester.

Theory Courses with Laboratory Component:


If there is a theory course with Laboratory component, there shall be three tests ;
the first two tests (each 100 marks) will be from theory portions and the third test
(maximum mark 100) will be for laboratory component. The sum of marks of first
two tests shall be reduced to 10 marks and the third test mark shall be reduced
to 10 marks. The sum of these for 20 marks may then be arrived at and rounded
to nearest integer.

Project Work:

There shall be three assessments (each 100 marks) during the semester by a
review committee. The student shall make presentation on the progress made
before the committee. The Head of the Institution shall constitute the review
committee for each branch of study. The total marks obtained in the three
assessments shall be reduced to 40 marks and rounded to the nearest integer.

4. Requirements for appearing in Semester Examination:

The examinations shall ordinarily be conducted between October and December


during the odd semester and between March and May in the even semester. For
the practical examinations, both internal and external examiners shall be
appointed by the University. The maximum marks for each theory and practical
course (excluding the Project Work and Viva-Voce Examination in the Eighth
Semester) shall be 100 comprising of 20 marks for internal assessment and 80
marks for the examinations conducted by the University. For the project work and
viva-voce examination, the maximum marks shall be 200 comprising of 40 marks
for internal assessment and 160 for the University examination. A candidate shall
normally be permitted to appear for the semester examination of the current
semester if he/she has satisfied the semester completion requirements (vide
Clause 2) and has registered for examination in all courses of that semester. In
addition, the candidate shall satisfy the following conditions:

a) To be permitted to register for the semester examination of theory courses of


VII Semester, the candidate should have passed the examination in all courses
of the first semester.

b) To be permitted to register for the semester examination of theory courses of


VIII Semester the candidate should have passed the examination in all courses
of the first and second Semesters.

5. Passing Requirements

a)A candidate who secures not less than 50% of total marks prescribed for the
courses with a minimum of 45% of the marks prescribed for the end semester
University Examination in both theory and practical courses (including project
work) shall be declared to have passed the Examination.

b) If a candidate fails to secure a pass in a particular course, it is mandatory that


he/she shall register and reappear for the examination in that course during the
next semester when examination is conducted in that course; he / she should
continue to register and reappear for the examination till he / she secures a pass.
However, the internal assessment marks obtained by the candidate in the first
attempt shall be retained and considered valid for all the subsequent attempts.

6. Eligibility for the Award of Degree


A student shall be declared to be eligible for the award of the B.E./B.Tech.
Degree provided, the student has, i) Successfully completed the course
requirements and has passed all the prescribed examinations in all the 8
semesters (6 semesters for lateral entry) within a maximum period of 7 years (6
years for lateral entry) reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to
which the candidate was admitted.

ii) Completed the NCC/NSS/NSO/YRC requirements.

iii) No disciplinary action is pending against the student. The award of Degree
must have been approved by the Syndicate of the University.

7. Classification of the Degree Awarded

i) A Candidate who is qualified for the award of the Degree, having passed the
examination in all the subject of all the eight semesters (six semesters for lateral
entry) in his / her first appearance within eight consecutive semesters (six for
lateral entry) securing an aggregate of not less than 75% of total marks (Internal
assessment plus semester exam marks) shall be declared to have passed the
examination in first Class with Distinction. For this purpose the withdrawal from
examination will not be considered as an appearance. Further, the authorized
break of study will not be counted for the purpose of classification.

ii) A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree having passed the
examination in all the courses in the final six semesters (all the six semesters for
lateral entry) within a maximum period of eight consecutive semester reckoned
from the commencement of study in the third semester (from first semester for
lateral entry) securing an aggregate of not less than 60% of total marks (Internal
assessment plus semester exam marks) shall be declared to have passed the
examination in First Class. For this purpose, the authorized break of study will
not be counted for the purpose of classification.

iii) All other candidates who qualify for the award of the degree shall be declared
to have passed the examination in second class.

iv) A candidate who is absent in semester examination in a course / project work,


after having registered for the same, shall be considered to have appeared in
that examination, for the purpose of classification.

v) A candidate can apply for revaluation of his/her semester examination answer


paper in a theory course, within 2 weeks from the declaration of results, on
payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the controller of
examinations, through the Head of the Institution concerned. The revaluation
results will be intimated to the candidate concerned through the Head of the
Institution. Revaluation is not permitted for practical courses and for project work.

8. Provision for Withdrawal from Examination

A candidate may, for valid reasons, be granted permission to withdraw from


appearing for the examination in any course or courses of only one semester
examination during the entire duration of the degree programme. Also only one
application for withdrawal is permitted for that semester examination in which
withdrawal is sought.
i) Withdrawal application shall be valid only if the candidate is otherwise eligible
to write the examination and if it is made ten days prior to the commencement of
the examination in that course or courses and also recommended by the Head of
the Department and the Head of the Institution.

ii) Withdrawal shall not be considered as an appearance for the eligibility of a


candidate for First Class with Distinction.

9. Temporary Break of Study from a Programme

i) A candidate is not normally permitted to temporarily break the study. However


if a candidate intends to temporarily discontinue the programme in the middle for
valid reasons (such as accident or hospitalization due to prolonged ill health) and
to rejoin the programme in a later semester he / she shall apply to the Head of
the Institution in advance, in any case, not later than the last date for registering
for the semester examinations of the semester through the Head of the
Department and Head of the Institution stating the reasons thereof.

ii) A candidate permitted to rejoin the programme after the break shall be
governed by the rules and regulations in force at the time of rejoining.

iii) The Duration specified for passing all the courses for the purpose of
classification shall be increased by the period of such break of study permitted.

iv) The total period for completion of the programme reckoned from, the
commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted shall
not exceed the maximum period specified in clause 6 irrespective of the period of
break of study in order that he/she may be eligible for the award of the degree. v)
If any student is detained for want of requisite attendance, progress and good
conduct, the period spent in that semester shall not be considered as permitted
‘Break of Study’ and is not applicable for this case.

10. Industrial Visit

Every student is required to undergo one Industrial visit for every theory course
offered, starting from the third semester of the programme. Every teacher shall
take the students at least for one industrial visit in a semester to get industrial
exposure.

11. TRAINING & PLACEMENT CELL

The Training and Placement cell endeavors to provide career development job
oriented training to the students headed by experienced department
coordinators. Through this cell, program on Communication Development,
Technical Aptitude, General Aptitude, and Personality Development, Group
discussion, Memory power, Self confidence and Motivation are provided by
expert professionals. The cell provides enough opportunities for the students to
get placed in the National and Multinational companies. The cell has been
playing dual role of assessing ever-changing industrial requirements grooming
and estimating inherent talents of the students. The cell has conducted
“Shiksha” Job fair successfully with the mode of getting placements in the
industries. They are also guided for Off-campus and On-campus interviews. The
college placement cell created history by conducting campus interviews with
reputed companies such as Wipro/Infosys/TATA/CTS. In the academic year
2007-2008 around 75 students have been placed in the leading companies

12. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY RESOURCE CENTRE

The aim of the ITRC is to facilitate the students to utilize the resources available
in Information Technology. It is regularly conducting the assorted Information
Technology Training Programmes and computer courses to the students of our
college so as to update and gain knowledge in information technology field.

13. ACADEMIC PRIZES

To encourage the academic performance the Management recognizes high


performing teachers and students, the following merit prizes are being awarded.

o KSM Gold Medal is awarded for the best outstanding final year
student. (Boy)
o Kammatchiammal Gold Medal is awarded for the outstanding final
year student.(Girl)

o For the top three positions in University Examinations in each branch


of study in the college.

o For the overall top three positions in the B.E., / B.Tech. Degree
Examinations of the university.

o Prizes are awarded for 100% attendance.

o Badges are awarded to TOP TEN rank holders in each semester to


all the Departments.

o Cash award to Faculties producing high percentage.

14. Personality and Character Development

Leo Club

LEO CLUB is the student’s wing of LION’S CLUB. It is an International


Oraganization. and was installed in our college, in the year 2006-2007 and it has
been successful till date. There are around 25 students in this Club and they
have gained many qualities such as leadership, organizing and exposure to
society. These people stud up in times of natural calamities and disorders. Leo
club changed the attitude of many students and made them focus on social
works. Through this club many social activities such as blood donation camp,
tree plantations are conducted in our college premises. This is one of the best
Club in our college.

15. Sports and Games

The college motivates the students to participate in sports, games and other co-
curricular activities for their personality development, and they are also trained to
compete for zonal level Competitions in atheletics, Cricket, foot Ball, Volley Ball,
Kabbaddi and Indoor games.

14. Hostel

The college provides a state-of-the art hostel to all the inmates. Located

hostels for boys and girls are equipped with modern amenities and are efficiently

15. Transport

To commute to college and back home, four buses run from different parts of the
city. The bus fare is concessional and the areas covered are BHEL, Srirangam,
TV.Kovil, Chattram bus stand, Puthur and Trichy Junction. They are advised to
use the college transport after paying appropriate bus charges to their boarding
point, the pass should be carried by the students and produce when demanded.

16. Discipline

Every student is required to observe discipline and decorous behaviour both


inside and outside the college and not to indulge in any activity which will tend to
bring down the prestige of the University/College.
