Required Text and Supplies:

Required Text: Wood, S., Wood, E., & Boyd, D. (2011). The World of Psychology, Seventh Edition.
Supplies: 1 Manila Folder, 5 SCANTRON 882-E Forms, 8 SCANTRON 815-E Forms

 Additional readings including but not limited to handouts and articles will be provided
throughout the semester

Goals and Objectives

 To learn the basic content of psychology including but not limited to theories, methods,
applications, statistical methods, and current issues;
 To demonstrate awareness of neurological aspects of the science of psychology;
 To analyze the roles of sensation and perception;
 To become familiar with consciousness and altered-state terms;
 To analyze factors involved in learning theories;
 To become familiar with memory, intelligence and language development theories;
 To recognize developmental theories and the areas associated with development
 To demonstrate an understanding of motivation and emotion theories;
 To obtain knowledge regarding personality theories, abnormal behaviors, and proper terms
given in current diagnostic and statistical manuals;
 To demonstrate an understanding of psychological treatments and mental wellness;
 To recognize the social implications of psychology;
 To become familiar with the various applications of psychology in the workplace.

Exams and Quizzes

Four exams will be administered this semester. Quizzes will be administered throughout the
semester. Exams and quizzes will be based on readings in The World of Psychology, lecture, Videos,
and handouts. THERE WILL BE NO MAKEUP EXAMS OR QUIZZES - UNLESS there is a legal or
serious medical reason (Documentation will be required to support your claim). Missing an
exam or quiz will put your final grade in jeopardy. You will be informed about exam and quiz dates at
least one class period prior to the dates administered. The lowest exam grade and lowest two quiz
grades may be dropped at the discretion of the instructor. Multiple choice exams will require students
to purchase SCANTRON form 882-E. Multiple choice quizzes will require students to purchase
SCANTRON FORM 815-E.

Projects and Assignments

Special projects and assignments will be assigned for grades and to broaden the scope of the
materials received in class and through readings in the text. They will also help facilitate the
assimilation of the material. Work will be due on the designated due dates during class. You will be
informed about projects and assignments at least one class period prior to the due date. You are
responsible for keeping up with the readings in the text outside of class (See Course Outline).

Classroom Activities

Classroom activities are designed to further enhance your learning experience. Activities may include
but not be limited to: readings, lectures, discussions, written assignments, group assignments, library
research, films, etc. Your Class participation grade will be partially determined by your completion of
classroom activities. You are responsible for keeping up with the readings in the text outside of class
(See Course Outline) and notes from classes.
Extra Credit

Extra credit opportunities will be announced throughout the semester.

Campus Cruiser

We will be utilizing Campus Cruiser to communicate. Communicate with me using your Campus
Cruiser Email Account. When sending an email, include your name and the course number and
section number in the Subject Tab. Check for announcements, assignments, updates, extra credit
opportunities, and any necessary adjustments to the course syllabus daily.

Classroom Conduct

 It is within the classroom that assignments are made and often completed, lectures and discussions are
conducted, quizzes are administered and exams are administered. Attend class regularly and be
punctual. If you have excessive absences (More than 3), you will put your final grade in jeopardy. If you
have a legitimate emergency (medical, work-related, etc.), you must provide documentation to support
your claim. I will then determine what action should be taken. You may receive extra credit for perfect
attendance (i.e. no absences, tardiness, or early departures prior to official dismissal for any reason
including the day of the Final Exam).
 Please do not bring children to campus.
 Turn off and put away communication/electronic devices including but not limited to cell phones, iPods,
portable gaming devices, etc. Speaking on cell phone, texting, and social networking are not
permitted during class. Laptops may be permitted for note taking purposes only or when
otherwise notified.
 Pay attention to lectures, videos, and activities. Speaking to others at inappropriate times, sleeping or
working on other assignments are not welcomed behavior. Any behavior deemed as disruptive can
result in permanent dismissal during class.
 Take notes during lecture, discussion, and other times as required.
 Respect the questions, beliefs, and opinions of others. Speaking to others at inappropriate times,

 Scholastic dishonesty is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
