Mental Turbulence among Youth

In this age of segregate theoretical approaches, we are all agree to at least one spot that
youth is the most precious asset of any society or state because it holds the capability to
change the fate of the entire society or state. The history of those nations was written in
golden words whose youngsters are provided with adequate fundamental rights which
ultimately resulted in the youth’s strive for their nation’s affluence and opulence. Let’s
take the example of modern western countries where the youth has been provided with
enormous and future securing rights as a result of which, the life of those counties have
become the daydream of the majority of the youngsters of third world countries like
Pakistan.

Unfortunately, there are deplorable and appalling circumstances regarding the present
and future of Pakistani youth which is promoting unrest and turbulence among youth at a
vigorous rate and this turbulence is going to be reached to an alarming stage. We can
arbitrate this state of turbulence – mental turbulence – among youth by just discussing
with an unemployed educated and talented youngster about job, who remained
unemployed just because of his or her incapability to approach a “Sifarish” and to bear
the capital to bribe. This mental turbulence leads most of our youngsters to frustration
which ultimately causes a number of psychological scrapes and social tribulations which
may also lead to a bloody and overthrowing revolution. An ample ratio of such
victimized youngsters engross in different social tribulations such as drug addiction,
smoking, gambling, wandering, robbery, etc. In this way, this mental turbulence also
leads them to the commission of many crimes. Thus, mental turbulence also paves the
way for criminality and social disorder in the society or state.

UN defines ‘youth’, as those persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years, and in a
report, UNDP (UN sub agency) highlighted that Pakistan has a large population that can
be categorized as falling within the UN’s definition of youth. An estimated 103 million
Pakistanis, or 63% of the population, fall under the age of 25 years. However, as a result
of endemic poverty, the majority of youth in Pakistan do not have the opportunity to
experience a childhood. Youth literacy rate (age 15/24) is estimated to be 53%.

Those youngsters who are learning or studying (either formally or informally), have to
worry about their future security even in the age of learning knowledge and skills. In this
way, our youth remain deprived to acquire advanced levels of learning, which is also a
major cause of our nation’s underdevelopment. On the other side, our country’s ruling as
well as opposition parties have made the public dupe by their so called friendly politics
with the name to achieve true democracy in Pakistan. They always cater the youth by just
claiming their government’s schemes for youth but now with the constructive monitoring
of media, Pakistan’s youth has become aware about the fact and are fed up from the
political system in the country. Can Pakistan’s ruling class elucidate the public, who
made them their representative in the state, how the only usage of the word of true
democracy can convene the fundamental needs and wants of the public, especially youth?
