Cheating in Exams

The word 'Cheating', is as old as Exams itself. Since time in memorable,

people have sought different ways to pass exams dubiously. This has led
to a beak down of the socio-economic, political and moral fabrics of
many society. Many reasons can be attributed to the causes of cheating in
Exams.

First and foremost, ill- perparedness prompt exams' candidates to

cheat.As people always say, "you cannot fatten your pig on the market
day". When a person has not studied, do his research work before exam,
he may become very anxious and uncomfortable. Such uncomfortability
coupled with the need to pass will ultimately lead him to find easier way
to pass, hence cheating commence.Statistics from the National
Examinations Council, have shown that students who do not study ( ill-
perpared) are more likely to cheat in Exams halls, because they are less
confident of themselves.

Secondly the need to be seen as an excellent student has led to rampant

cheating in Exams. In a society where people use grades to measure
smartness and intelligence, the wanting to be in such category is a major
cause of Examination malpractices. Many students are just not satisfied
with any grades they get; they want to be perfect, excellent in everything.
The reason is that society has literally ties success to having excellent
grades. Also, scholarship opportunities mostly put excellent grade as a
criterion in awarding them. In a bid to harness such opportunities,
students will go an extra mile which involves, among other things,
cheating in Exams.

Lastly, cheating is an easier way to get the job done perfectly! Studying,
as oppose to cheating, requires long duration of the time. Again it is a
difficult mental exercise. To comprehend is not an easy task and for some
courses like in Medicine and Law, it involves sleepless nights scrolling
through thousands of papers. Some people are less likely to go through all
these huddles, so they hatch a clever and easier way to do it - cheating.
With an abundance of electronic devices like the spy watches,
programmed calculators, spy eyeglasses, all around the market, cheating
is way too easier than before. The internet has also helped in getting
correct information within a twinkle of an eye. So a student just need to
type a question in Google search engine, as if like magic, multiple
answers will pop up.

To conclude, cheating will always be a problem humanity have to deal

with. There will be those who will never perpare well for exams, others
who want excellent grades by hook or crook, and also because it is easier
now than before to cheat. So society needs to live with it.
