The Conservative Party played a
major role in protecting New York’s
citizens in the 2010 elections, as we
brought about major success up and
down the ballot.
Conservative voters were instru-
mental in electing six new Members of
Congress who will help stop the ultra-
left shift our country has taken under
the Obama Administration and his
cohorts in Congress.
In Albany, four new Republican
Senators will bring fiscal conservatism to
the conference — and with the help of
Conservative Party voters, we now have
a Republican majority in the Senate that
will be able to negotiate new district
lines, cap property taxes, roll-back

“All’s Well That Ends Well”—
the Shakespearian tragedy or possibly a
comedy (no one is quite sure) — can also
be the synopsis of this year’s election cycle.
The roller coaster ride began when the
state executive committee met on Satur-
day, March 20 and voted 5 to 1 to endorse
Rick Lazio for Governor and ended on
November 2 when Carl Paladino lost
his quixotic bid for governor.
The seven-and-a-half months
between March 20 and November 2 will
be remembered by those involved as the
best of times and the worst of times — a
campaign season with more twists and
turns than the Cyclone at Coney Island.
For those who love the excitement of a
campaign, this was one of the most

nanny-state regulations (hopefully!),
protect family values, and — perhaps
most important — to cut out-of-control
spending and reduce taxes.
Meanwhile, the eight new Assembly
members elected with Conservative Party
support will let Speaker Silver know that
the days of his dictatorial, business-as-
usual brand of “leadership” are numbered.
Every vote cast in the Assembly will be
far more important as Members realize
they are vulnerable if they continue
spending as if they have a limitless credit
card that never needs payments.
Congratulations to long time pro-life
activist and former State Vice Chairman,
John Andrew Kay, on his election as
Suffolk County District Court Judge.
All this success comes at a crucial time
for New York. Our state has become
increasingly “blue” because those who
unpredictable we have experienced in
quite some time, perhaps since the early
days of the Party when we were thwarted
at every turn.
The year began knowing that
Andrew Cuomo would be the Demo-
cratic candidate for Governor and a
foregone conclusion that the wind
would be at his back gently and at times
forcefully in the guise of newspaper
articles and editorial boards. This was
expected and not entirely worrisome —
after all, conservatives could count on talk
radio and the internet for counterbalance.
Rick Lazio was reaching out to
county chairs in both the Republican and
Conservative parties and was getting
them on board with his campaign. Then

can, move. No one wants to open a new
business in a state that penalizes success,
calls for nanny-state control of goods
and services, or has bloated taxes due to
public pensions and other entitlements.
Just look at the amount of money poured
in to our educational system: You would
think that our students were at the top
of the charts but alas, they are not — but
school taxes continue to rise and drive
out those who can least afford them.
The challenges facing our state are
immense, but the votes cast for
Conservative candidates will make a
difference — and Conservative Party
victories will benefit every citizen in
New York. Stay engaged in the battle
for, as Ronald Reagan believed, our best
is yet to come.
rumors started circulating that a democrat
was considering a run on the republican
and conservative lines… a democrat?
W ho? W hy? W hy not a democrat
primar y? Things were interesting
around our legislative conference…
everyone who wanted to run started
reaching out to speak at our conference.
Rumors became fact and Suffolk
County Executive Steve Levy made it
public: He was considering running for
Governor on the Republican line and
would seek the Conservative line as
well. As County Executive, he had a
good fiscal record, but as an Assembly-
man, his record contributed to the
problems he faced as County Executive.

IS IMPORTANT
TO YOU…
The Conservative Party began when
New York State was in much better fiscal shape,
yet even then we were visionaries. We understood
that lavish spending on programs and pensions,
education and Medicare, and a host of progressive
ideas were designed to keep people dependent on
government. This government involvement in our
daily lives became so invasive that in 1962 J.
Daniel Mahoney, Kieran O’Doherty and others
began sounding the alarms.
Life was simpler and yet in some ways
more difficult. Twitter, Facebook and the Internet
were unknown, and getting the message out was
not an easy task. Yet we made strides and earned
many significant victories which most of you know
about.
Conservatism is on the rise again, and by
energizing voters here in New York and retaking
Row C, the Conservative Party is sending a strong
message to all elected officials: That grassroots
citizens across the state are deeply concerned about
spending and traditional values.
When a candidate seeks the Conservative
line, he is giving us a commitment to our platform.
He is telling you that he hears your concerns about
spending, understands that you are fed up with
taxes and fees that allow spending to continue and
will support traditional family values including
protecting the most innocent, yet to be born,
citizens.
Regaining Row C was not just a step up in
ballot position…it was a statement by voters that
we understand this central principle: That America
became the greatest country in the world not by
imposing Big Government, but by encouraging the
entrepreneurial spirit in all its citizens.

44th ANNUAL CONFERENCE:
The Excitement Continues
If you have already read the article on Recapturing
Row C, you know that the 2010 elections reawakened a sleeping
giant and brought plenty of new people to the political process —
and many who made a difference in 2010 began their quest at our
annual political action conference. These concerned citizens knew
they needed to be well educated on the issues and our 43rd Annual
Conference armed them for the journey.
Issues win the hearts and mind of voters and this year
local politics dominate — so make your plans to be in Albany on
Sunday, January 30 and Monday, January 31, 2011 to hear the
experts on the hot issues that will be the focus of your local
campaigns.
Newly elected officials will be present to discuss how they
will change government as we know it and how you can help. Law
enforcement will take center stage to inform us of the problems
incurred with a soft on crime attitude. Other topics that will be
discussed: How we can help end out of control budgets, and how
we can get the ball rolling on term limits in New York City and
hopefully the rest of the state — and maybe someone will teach us
the most effective way to have our voices heard in real time.
Perhaps our featured luncheon speaker will be the reason
for your joining us. Mark Steyn, a popular guest host of America’s
Number One radio show The Rush Limbaugh Program, and
America’s Number Two cable show Hannity, is an international
bestselling author, a Top 41 recording artist, and a leading
Canadian human rights activist. His book America Alone: The
End Of The World As We Know It was a New York Times
bestseller in the United States and a Number One bestseller in
Canada. Don’t be alarmed for his being a leading Canadian human
rights activist, he is actively trying to destroy the Canadian
“Human Rights” Commission, for reasons he explains in his book
Lights Out: Islam, Free Speech And The Twilight Of The West.
Mark is also a visiting fellow of Hillsdale College.

If he became Governor, would he do
right for all New Yorkers as he had
done right for Suffolk County voters —
or, would he be loyal to Speaker Silver
as he was during his time in the
Assembly?
Around the same time Steve Levy’s
name was circulating, a successful Republi-
can businessman from Buffalo was show-
ing an interest in running for Governor.
Republicans began to waver; Conser-
vatives began to waver. The Democrats
never wavered. Attorney General Cuomo
had not announced what he was running
for, but everyone knew he would be the
gubernatorial candidate and he had the
financial war chest to discourage any
primary for Governor.
A decision could not wait. Every
day we did not have a definite candidate
was a day that made it harder to raise
the money needed, and get the support
necessary. The leaders of the Conservative
Party knew they had a decision to make.
It was time to begin serious discussion
on the issues and direction our govern-
ment would have to take to make New
York affordable for its citizens.
On March 20, Conservative Party
leaders met, listened to many indivi-
duals’ concerns, discussed the pros and
cons of each candidate, and did what
leaders do: they took a stand and recom-
mended to the full state committee that
Rick Lazio be our candidate.
From March to May, everyone had
an opinion on why the decision was
made. Moreover, not everyone agreed.
The discussion continued, sometimes at
a fever pitch, sometimes quietly behind
closed doors, sometimes by mail and
many times by e-mail. Some stood with
the leaders and some tried to discredit
the leaders. It was a healthy discussion
of issues reminiscent of the early days of
the Party. For two months, Conservatives
across the state discussed and argued the
merits of having Rick Lazio on our line.
The official convention was set for
May 28, 2010. The day arrived and the
hotel was packed. Delegates huddled;
candidates worked the room; interns,
staffers, and handlers for every statewide
candidate were spotted counting votes,
making certain that those who had
committed their vote had not wavered.
It was time. The nominations were
made and seconded. Joe DioGuardi, Jay
Townsend, Harr y Wilson, Daniel
Donovan became our official candidates.
Who would be our gubernatorial candi-
date? The last two months came to this
final decision… would Rick Lazio be
our candidate, did Steve Levy have the
support, or would Carl Paladino pull off
an upset?
The delegates made their voice
heard: Rick Lazio and Greg Edwards
were our designated candidates for
Governor and Lt. Governor. Neither
Steve Levy nor Carl Paladino was
nominated, but Ralph Lorigo and John
Andrew Kay were.
The Conser vative Party had a
primary for Governor.
A week later, the Republicans
designated Rick Lazio and Greg
Edwards for Governor and Lt.
Governor.
Steve Levy and Carl Paladino would
not be on the ballot. The Conventions
were over and the campaigns were on.
But wait, Carl Paladino was not going
to give up. He and his supporters vowed
they would mount a petition drive to get
on the ballot; not an easy task in New
York State.
Meanwhile, in the Conservative
Party, Mr. Kay did not file the necessary
paperwork to become the Lt. Governor
candidate, by choice. Mr. Lorigo did.
Mr. Paladino gathered the required
number of signatures to create a
Republican primary and chose long
time conservative activist, Thomas V.
Ognibene, as his Lt. Governor. Know-
ing he needed an additional line, he
circulated petitions for the Taxpayer
Party and submitted the required num-
bers to qualify on that independent line.
The summer found candidates at
County Fairs, Rotary Clubs, parades,
and any gathering open to the public or
by invitation — every possible way to
have their message heard. The summer
was long and exciting, one filled with
hope that change would occur.
Primary Day arrived! Rick Lazio
trounced Ralph Lorigo. However,
Republicans had other ideas. Carl
Paladino, with a very strong turnout
from his home county, won. The
anomaly was that Greg Edwards, also
from Western New York, won the

Republican primary for Lt. Governor.
A valiant quest became a quandary;
would Rick remain the Conser vative
nominee? Would a split ticket guarantee a
democratic victory? The numbers were
already against us… 5.2 million registered
democrats, almost 3 million registered
republicans and roughly 160,000
registered conservatives.
The discussions among the counties
began again. Could Rick win on our line
alone? Would it be another 1994? Could
we come close to getting Row C back?
Questions, many questions, and not a lot
of time.
Disappointment loomed when Rick
announced he would run for Supreme
Court Justice.
The State Committee had to
reorganize in September. Who would be
on our line? Mail, phone calls, and e-mails
flooded the office. People we had never
heard from, conser vatives who had
become complacent, voters energized by
the conser vative message, ever yone
insisting that Carl Paladino be on our line.
Would Carl accept the Conservative
Party nomination?
September 29, 2010, Carl Paladino
became the Conservative Party nominee
for Governor. We had a united ticket.
The next four and a half weeks became
a blur of activity. Lost time had to be made
up, and our candidate’s inexperience with
the press became fodder for the tabloids.
Like the rest of the Country, voters in
New York were fed up with out-of-control
spending. Taxpayers wanted change, and
they wanted more money in their wallets.
Even Andrew Cuomo campaigned as a
fiscal conservative.
November 2 arrived. The fiscal
conservative message was loud and clear.
While Carl Paladino’s naïveté did not
help his campaign, he did help fan the
conservative torch’s flame and brought us
back home to Row C!
So all’s well that ends well, right? But
this is not the end at all — because now
we’re looking forward to another year of
heated debates, tough issues and local
elections across the state.
Get ready for another roller coaster
ride — and through every up and down,
know that the Conservative Party will be
working hard for our state and our values.

Excerpts from brutally murdered because they wanted

the Executive Director:
Last year I wrote about how the
“times they are a changin’” and did they
ever. The Democrats never really saw it
coming, but those of us in the trenches
could feel the excitement and under-
current, it surrounded and encircled us.
The “Times, they are a changin’” and the
sweetest part is we used their playbook.
Sixty-three new Republican Congressmen
will be in the 112th Congress and 5 new
Republican Senators. As President Obama
said, the Democrats got a shellacking and
I would add, “ Well deserved” to that
shellacking!
The violence in Mexico that’s spilling
over into our border towns is terrifying to
those who live there and should be to the
rest of us. The drug cartels are out of
control: a 14-year-old boy is in custody
for beheading four people; others torched
a kindergarten classroom because the
teachers would not hand over their
Christmas bonuses; an American farmer
his land. Cartels murder police and anyone
who gets in their way. The violence has
escalated at alarming rates and I have to
ask, why? Are Americans at fault for the
vicious attacks? Yes! Americans have a
voracious appetite for illegal drugs as
evidenced by crime statistics, street gangs,
legislatures easing sentences for drug
possession, coddling superstars that make
a mockery of drug abuse and the mistaken
belief that marijuana has medical benefits.
George Soros, take a good look in the
mirror and then explain to me why you
continue to push for the legalization of
drugs. “Medical Marijuana” has been legal
in California since 1996 and 14 states have
also passed laws for “medical marijuana”
with New York State poised to do the same.
It is a fallacy to believe that drug cartels’
profit margin will be diluted the more
government does to decriminalize drug
abuse, and the more George Soros glorifies
the use of illegal drugs. Treat the abuser, jail
the pusher, disgrace Soros, and understand
that while some drugs can benefit the truly
sick, most drugs destroy our ability to be
productive, loving, giving human beings.
The Conservative Party congratulates
all those who joined campaigns and
worked so hard on elections this past year.
We welcome your help and hope that all
of you who are part of the TEA Party
movement join us, for together we will
continue to make a difference.
May God bless you and yours as He
has blessed my children and me. May
God continue to keep America safe and
guide our elected officials as they make
the decisions that affect our daily lives and
the lives of our brave Armed Forces.
Hopefully 2011 will be the year that all
elected officials understand the true
meaning of government… to not intrude
in our lives beyond the measure needed to
maintain order. Remember what Thomas
Jefferson said “A Government big enough
to give you everything you want, is strong
enough to take everything you have.”
