NS-Designer

The NS-Designer is an application software package that can be run on Windows 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000,
XP or some recent versions to create screen data for NS-series Programmable Terminals.

A project contains all of the objects and settings required for a group of user screens. The project name
is specified to access data when editing on the NS-Designer or transferring data to PT.

SCADA:
SCADA stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. It is not a full control system but focuses on
the supervisory level. It is a purely software package, positioned on top of hardware to which it is
interfaced. Generally SCADA interfaced with PLC. SCADA system is used in industrial process, power
generation and distribution etc.

The general SCADA system can be classified into two parts

 Client layer which caters for the man machine interaction.

 Data server layer which handles most of the process data activities.

Four distinct levels for SCADA:

I. Field instrumentation.
II. PLCs and / or RTUs.
III. Communications networks and
IV. SCADA host software.

Features of SCADA:
 Dynamic process graphic
 Alarm summary and history
 Real time trend
 Historical time trend
 Database connectivity
 Device connectivity
 Scripts
 Recipe management

Applications of SCADA:
o Waste water treatment
o Electrical power distribution system
o Power generating stations
o Industrial control

CX-Programmer
CX-Programmer is the programming software for all Omron's PLC series, is fully integrated into the CX-
One software suite. CX-Programmer includes a wide variety of features to speed up the development of
your PLC program. New parameter-setting dialogues reduce setup time, and with standard function
blocks in IEC 61131-3 structured text or conventional ladder language, CX-Programmer makes
development of PLC programs a simple drag & drop configuration. CX-Programmer uses Ladder
Diagram as programming language.

CX supervisor:
CX supervisor is dedicated to the design and operation of PC based visualization and machine control
.CX- supervisor boasts powerful functions for a wide range of PC based human machine interface (HMI)
requirements.

Simple applications can be created rapidly with the aid of a large number of predefined functions and
libraries, and even very complex applications can be generated with a powerful programming language
or VBScript.

CX supervisor incorporates the following items

o Projects
o Points
o Animation
o Objects
o Alarm
o Data logging
o Graphics
o Pages etc.
CX Process Tool:
CX Process Tool is software used to create and test functional blocks for the CS1W-LCB01 Loop Control
Board.

Overview of CX Process Tool:

The CX process tool supports the following functions for loop controllers. The CX process tool (version
2.50 or higher) can communicate with a PLC equipped with a Loop Controller using the CX-Server
Communications driver as well as the Fins Gateway communications driver

Creating function blocks including the following functions

 registering function blocks (allocating block addresses)

 connecting function blocks with analog signals
 setting CSV tax for SCADA software (Tag Names and Analog Signals)
 downloading function block data to loop controllers
 uploading data from look controllers
 comparing function block data with data in a loop controller or function block file
 sending run or stop commands to loop controller
 tuning parameters such as PID constants in function blocks (control block)

The CX process tool uses CX Servers Communications driver to communicate with the PLC to which a
loop controller is mounted. it is thus necessary to install the CX-server software in the personal
computer that will be used

Loop control board (LCB)

loop control board performs dialog control block function easier than PLC main processor. it is another
processor like main processor. it uses main processor memory address without affecting the main
processor. LCB uses software function block than ladder diagram. it controls independently PID block.
The loop control board exchanges field I/O values (analog input values, analog output values, contact
inputs and contact outputs) with external units by the following method

1. the analog input/output unit or the basic I/O unit refresh the I/O memory on the CPU unit
2. The loop control board exchanges data allocated to I/O memory on the CPU unit according to
the operation cycle of is function block
Example data exchange of analog input, PID operation and analog output

Distributed Control System (DCS)

The DCS is a system of sensors, controllers, and associated computers that are distributed throughout a
plant. Each of these elements serves a unique purpose such as data acquisition, process control, as well
as data storage and graphical display. These individual elements communicate with a centralized
computer through the plant’s local area network – often referred to as a control network. As the ‘central
brain’ of the plant the DCS makes automated decisions based on production trends it sees them in real-
time throughout a plant. As an example, the DCS at a power plant might automatically increase steam
generation capacity of multiple turbines in order to keep up with changing demand for electricity during
hot summer days and then decrease it as outdoor temperatures cool overnight and demand subsides.
Whereas a PLC could adjust a single unit operation, the DCS can make adjustments to each of a plant’s
many interacting unit operations.
