DESCRIPTION anaing cane The MK-46PA Life Preserver consists of dual chamber inflatable cells. The life preserver provides added safety and protection of dual chambers. At the same time, Weight and space are conserved with three layer construction of urethane coated nylon fabric. Each cell is equipped with a mil-spec Conax Water Activated CO; Inflator and an oral inflation tube. The flotation system lpdusiaed in a yoke type case. The yoke style case is secured with a slide fastener and release pin system. The system is equipped with a suspension harness that incorporates a three point individualized fitting and adjustment system, a lifting becket for rescue, a pistol holster, and survival accessory pouches. am SEE FOLLOWING 3 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION SHEETS ** tat bot Ibe pick v2 wl son PE iti rag WV LIFE SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL, INC. MAINTENANCE MANUAL WITH ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST MK-46PA AIR CREW LIFE PRESERVER <> The MK-46PA is equipped with two (2) each Conax Water Activated Auto Inflators. When immersed in water they will electronically initiate and ballistically activate. Once activated they cannot be utilized again. Manually operated versions are available from the manufacturer for training purposes, B. OPERATION 4. Operation Fully Automatic Mode: ; Upon eniry into the water, the water pressure will initiate the electrical circuitry of the Conax Auto Inflators, a ballistic charge is released that drives the piercing pin into the CO, Cylinder. When the COz is released under pressure into the cells, the ‘expanding gas releases the safety pin allowing the zipper closure of the yoke case to open. Should the crewman be unconscious, the life preserver will fully inflate and self right the unconscious crewman’s head out of water. Once in the water, the crewman is able to release the parachute canopy, if necessary, or completely remove the parachute pack 2. Operation Manually Operated Mode: The pilot may elect to manually activate the life preserver prior to entry into the water. To manually activate the life preserver, the pilot locates the two beaded handles located at the base of each leg of the yoke. Placing hands in the handles, pull down sharply as far as possible on both handles simultaneously. When pulling down on the handles, two phases of resistance are encountered, the first is the resistance required to break the safety tie and extraction of the case releasing pin, this occurs after approximately two inches of travel; the second resistance felt is the actuation of the CO, cylinders which will occur after four to five inches of travel. Itis not uncommon for the pilot to feel the first resistance that opens the case closure system and stop pulling. When this occurs, the life preserver will not inflate. Note: For manual operation both beaded handles must be pulled. 3. After entry into the water, the parachute canopy may be released by activation of the Capewell PCU/4P Canopy Release Fittings. Once the canopy is released, the parachute release clips should be closed. When closing, be careful not to pinch the life preserver. In most cases, it is more desirable to discard the entire parachute hamess after entry into the water. Manual Part No. FLO-4507-25 102 a LIFE SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL, INC. MAINTENANCE MANUAL WITH ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST MK-46PA AIR GREW LIFE PRESERVER B. OPERATION (continued) 4, The MK-46PA is equipped with a Lifting Becket System. To utilize the lifting becket system, locate the two loops on either side of the frontal zipper closure. Pass the longer loop through the shorter loop and pull it secure. In this configuration the longer loop may be attached to the rescue hook on the winch cable for hoisting. C. FITTING AND ADJUSTMENT OF THE MK-46PA NOTE: The MK-46PA is designed for use in conjunction with 5007024 Series Parachute Systems. To properly integrate and function correctly with the 50C7024 Series Parachute, the MK-46PA must be properly fitted and adjusted to the pilot by a trained technician for proper operation. 4. Procedure a. Don the life preserver in the same manner as putting on a vest, pass left arm between yoke, tail strap, and chest strap. Repeat procedure with right arm, fasten frontal zipper closure. c Ensure pockets are installed, pistol pocket on right side, accessory pockets on leftside. The large accessory pocket is closest to the front or the yoke. © The technician will form and shape yoke around pilot's neck area ensuring the yoke does not contact neck, or interfere with helmet. The pilot should be able to look over the left or right shoulder without helmet contacting life preserver when properly adjusted i With the yoke properly positioned, have the technician adjust chest straps located on left and right sides, to a comfortable and snug fit. 2 . Secure tail strap, the bitter end of the tail strap is tensioned to hold the yoke comfortably secure and in the correct position. When adjusted the strap is hand tacked with two turns of six cord nylon single, To tack, fold the bitter end under approximately one inch and tack the bitter end directly to the tail strap. f. Check interface with parachute. While wearing the preliminarily adjusted MK- 46PA, don the Parachute. Check the following: 1.
