COURSE OUTLINE

Course Code : CORR 301

Course Title : Institutional Corrections

Course Description : The course deals with the study of the history,
philosophy and objectives of imprisonment and the
development of prisons. A study of institutional agencies
in the Philippines, to include BJMP which overseas city
and municipal jail; provincial jail and the bureau of
Corrections and their institutions in terms of their
structures, management, standards, programs and
services. It allows the student to assess and review the
structures, management, standards, programs and
services of the existing correctional institution in our
country for them to identify its extent of implementation
and its effectiveness in the current situation. The
student will be assessed on their correctional institution
immersion output.

Course Objectives : At the end of the course, the students are expected to;

1. Elaborate the history, philosophy and objectives of imprisonment and the


development of prisons.;
2. Explain the structures, management, standards, programs and services of the
existing correctional institution in our country;
3. Assess the importance of determining the history, philosophy and objectives of
imprisonment in the development of the present Correctional policies and
procedures;
4. Demonstrate the relevance of effective management, standards, programs and
services to the immediate rehabilitation of inmates or prisoners;
5. Create a correctional institution immersion output.

Note: Passing percentage for board courses is 70% of the total raw score for SA, FA &
CA; This means that a raw score of 70 points for a total of 100-point assessment is

equivalent to a grade of 75% for any grading period. Passing percentage for non-
board courses, on the other hand, is 60% for SA, FA & CA.
2. Quizzes/Finals
2.1 No make-up examinations will be given. All missed quizzes and hands-on exercises
will be equivalent to zero.
2.2 All major examinations will be conducted as scheduled by the University Registrar’s
Office.

3. Cheating
Anyone caught cheating or trying to cheat in any manner will be given a final grade of 70.

4. Absences
The maximum allowable absences is 6 hours. Anyone who exceeds this limit will be given a
final grade of FA (Failed due to absences).
