Clase 04: FUNCIONES DE VARIAS VARIABLES
2.1 Funciones de dos variables
Una función de dos variables es una relación donde a estas variables se le
asigna uno y solamente un número
real

“La función de producción de una
cierta pesquera de langostas, que está dada por F (S , E )  2.26 S 0.44 E 0.48 , donde

2.1.1 Dominio: Es el conjunto para el cual estas variables definen la


función; es decir el conjunto para el cual tiene sentido la regla de
correspondencia de la función.

Ejemplo 01: Hallar el dominio de F ( x, y)  x 2  y 2 .

Ejemplo 02: Hallar el dominio de F ( x, y)  x  1  y .


Solución
Para que la regla de correspondencia tenga sentido se
necesita:

Ejemplo 03: Hallar el dominio de F ( x, y)  9  x 2  y 2 .
Solución
Para que la regla de correspondencia tenga
sentido se necesita:
9  x 2  y 2  0  x 2  y 2  32

Es decir Dom ( F )  ( x, y)  R 2 / x 2  y 2  32 ;
Pares de puntos que pertenecen a la
circunferencia y su interior, centrado en el origen
(0,0) y de radio r=3.

2.1.2 Gráfica
Sea z  f ( x, y) una función de dos variables. Su gráfico se define como el
conjunto de puntos ( x, y, z ) del espacio R3, tales que z  F ( x, y) . El lugar
geométrico es llamado Superficie.

2.1.3 Curvas de nivel


Sea z  f ( x, y) una función de dos variables. Las curvas de nivel de la gráfica
de la superficie de la función se define como las trayectorias en el plano XY,
tales que f ( x, y)  c . Es decir, serían las curvas que resultan de la
intersección de las superficie con los planos z  c , proyectados en el plano
XY.

“Una función de f de dos variables x e y definida en un dominio D se llama
homogénea de grado k, si, para todo (x, y)  D ”

Las derivadas parciales pueden ser utilizadas para determinar derivadas de
funciones cuyas ecuaciones están dadas de manera implícita.
