*Click on the top left corner cell of a database and
then use Page Up and Page Down to cycle through
the Previous and Next Lines

*The up and down arrows will change the axis
values in a profile window – just highlight the min,
mid, or max on the vertical or horizontal exes and
use the arrow keys
*View multiple profiles at once. Right click in the
profile window and select Y-Axis Options. Then set
the same axis scale for all profiles so that they are
all viewed at the same scale.

Map Tools Bar

Open 3D Viewer
Map View Mode – Use this mode to

Map Group Mode – Use this mode

Shadow Cursor Tool – Use this tool

Tool – Use this tool to link from

Auto Redraw Maps – Leave this on
to automatically refresh your maps;
Alt+R turn it off when working with very
large images or grids to avoid
waiting for the map to redraw
Redraw – Forces the refresh of the

*The Shadow Curosr Data Linking tool works with a
Line Path layer, a Profile layer or any type of
Symbol layer, use this tool click on the map and
see the associated data in the database
*Press “V” to enter View Selection mode then right
click on a Data view to see the current information
for mapview
*Press “G” to enter Group Selection mode then “E”
to Edit the current group

Copy – This will Copy the selected

*Use Copy and Paste a georeferenced to copy map
views or groups, from one map to another or
drag-n-drop views or groups from PE to map
*You can copy text from Word or cells from Excel
and Paste them directly in to your maps as images.
Use the Map > Copy Map to Clipboard option to
copy the entire map to the clipboard; then in Word
or Powerpoint, go to Edit > Paste Special and
choose “Device Independent bitmap”
Map Layout Bar
The Navigation tools are available in the Right Mouse
click menu as well
Zoom Box – Click twice to define

*Use the Snapshot tool to conveniently jump to
areas of interest on your map
*Use the Layout View Properties tool to change your
Base view units from mm to inches or cm
*Turn on the Snapping Grid to see a grid of points on
a map; helps to see where groups are snapping to
*Press the “B” key to zoom to a small area then the
“F” key to zoom back to the Full map
Map Group Editing Bar
These tools can only be used on map groups that
are Edit Mode; use the View/Group manager tool to

Select Item(s) – Select single or multiple items
on a map while in Group Edit mode
Draw a Straight Line on Map – Straight
Draw a Poly-line on Map – Single Polyline
Draw a Rectangular Shape on Map
Draw a Polygon Shape on Map – To finish,
Right click, select Done and the polygon will
snap on the first point and close
Draw a N-Sided Polygon Shape on Map – Use
this tool to create regular polygons with any
number of sides
Draw a Circle/Ellipse on Map
Add Text on Map
Draw Symbol on Map
Get Polygon Attributes – Select on a polygon
to capture its attributes (Colours, line styles, fill
patterns, etc)
Apply Polygon Attributes – Fill polygon with
current colour – This tool becomes active after
using the above tool, click on any polygon to
apply the new attributes
Tips and Tricks
*Use the Select Item(s) Tool to double click on any
item and edit the attributes of that item
*Use the Enter key to specify an exact location for
any of the Map Group Editing Tools, including
symbols, text, lines and polygons
*Hold down the Shift key when drawing rectangles
and ellipses; they become perfect squares and circles
*Use the N-Sided polygon tool with 30+ sides; this
give you a polygon that looks like a circle but its
vertices can be edited using the Polygon Edit Tools

These tools can only be used while in Map Edit mode
and when a single polygon shape is selected
Edit Vertices – Enables vertex editing

at a time.
*The Map Tools> CAD Tools> Create PLY File from
Map Group tool to save a polygon with holes
(exclusion regions) to a PLY file to create new group.
Map Template Tools Bar
New Template from Library – Create a new
map template based on a template selected
from the map template library
New Blank Template – Create a new blank map
template based on a pre-defined paper size
and orientation
Open Existing Template – Open an existing
Geosoft map template
Add a new Data View – Add a new data view
area to the current map template
Add a New Base Group – Add any one of
several base group options, including text,
scale bars, north arrow
Add a New Data Group – Add one of two data
group types; regular grids and colour-shaded grids
Align Top – Align the top edges of the
currently selected items with that of the main

Make Same Size – Make all selected items the
same size in both dimensions as the main
selection item
Edit Selection Links – Linking one item to
another will change the size and / or location
of the linked item relative to the other item
Remove Selection’s Links – Remove the Link(s)
from the currently selected item
Tips and Tricks
*When using the ‘Alignment’ or the ‘Make Same’
tools, you can select two items by holding the
‘CTRL-Key’ the first item selected will be the Main
selection item, the second item will be aligned or
resized to match the first item.
*If you use the ‘Alignment’ or the ‘Make Same’ tools
with only one item selected, then the Main selection
item will begin the Base View.
*Use the Selection Links tool to groups items together.
Grouped items can be moved and resized together.
*Use the Remove Selection’s Links tool to break any
existing links to an item.
3D Viewer
Right-click in the 3D Viewer for quick access to some
of these navigation tools.
Rotate mode – Rotate the displayed
R
view in any direction
Zoom mode – Zoom in and out of
the displayed view
Pan mode – Move the entire
P or Spacebar
displayed view
Reset to full view – The full 3D view
F is displayed and centred in the 3D
Viewer window
Reset LookAt point to center of
scene – The focus point of the 3D
view is reset and the current
displayed 3D view is centred in the
3D Viewer display window
Toggle shadow cursor visibility –
S The Shadow cursor visibility will be
turned on or off
Toggle automatic redraw –
Refreshes/redraws the 3D view
automatically after changes are
made to it
Redraw Now – Forces a refresh/
redraw of the 3D view
Arrow keys on Will start spinning & speed
keyboard up/slow down spinning
Escape or End on Stop spin mode
keyboard
Enter on keyboard Allows you to type in the exact
position for the shadow cursor
ALT while panning Will move the shadow cursor
with the lookat point
SHIFT while panning Zooms to cursor location
CTRL while zooming Causes zoom towards the
cursor

*Appear at the base of the viewer window to provide
assistance with navigating the 3D viewer
*Mouse wheel zooms in and out or double-click in view
to zoom in (Shift-Key during double-click zooms out)
*Enable zoom towards the cursor during mouse wheel
or double-click by holding Ctrl-Key
*Holding Shift-Key during panning to enable depth
pan mode (great for positioning center at exact point)
*Select a layer to make it the preferred layer to draw
new 2D objects to
*The current active plane or surface (where new 2D
content will go) is indicated in bold with a special icon
*The C-Key to place and show the shadow cursor at
the lookat point
*The Enter-Key allows you to specify an exact position
for the shadow cursor
