Lufthansa baggage rules

Carry-on baggage First Class Business Class Economy Class


Suitcase/board case (55 x 40 x 20 cm) or 2 baggage items 1 baggage
garment/suit bag (57 x 54 x 15 cm) 8 kg each item of 8 kg
In some exceptional cases, carry-on items must be handed in, such as on flights with a small aircraft, mainly on regional services
(Lufthansa Regional partners), or in countries with restrictive government regulations (such as Italy and the USA).
By order of the German Ministry of the Interior, you may not take any liquids or gels with you into the plane’s cabin on flights to the
USA and on connecting flights to the USA. The same restrictions apply to flights from and via the United Kingdom. These regulations
may be extended to further countries at short notice. Please check the most up to date regulations on www.lufthansa.com prior to
your flight.

Checked baggage – Weight Concept First Class Business Class Economy Class
These weight limits apply worldwide except on routes on which
40 kg (88 lbs) 30 kg (66 lbs) 20 kg (44 lbs)
the Piece Concept detailed below applies.
Excess baggage – Weight Concept maximum of up to 110 kg (220 lbs) per person. For more than 100 kg (220 lbs) the fees increase
by 50 per cent. For details please contact our Lufthansa call centre on +49 (0)180 58 38 426.
The new zone system for excess baggage
Zone 1: Within Germany, Italy and on routes between third countries
on which LH passengers are carried (e.g. in the Middle East, Asia and 5 €/kg*
South America).
Zone 2: Within Europe including Germany (less CIS). 10 €/kg*
Zone 3: Between Zone 2 and CIS and the Middle East. 20 €/kg*
Zone 4: Between Zone 2 and South America, Africa and Asia. 30 €/kg*
Zone 5: Between Zones 3 and 4 and between Mexico and these
zones in the case of two successive long-haul flights (e.g. from 40 €/kg*
Johannesburg to Hong Kong via Frankfurt).
Maximum baggage item weight 32 kg (70 lbs).
For heavier baggage items please check in advance with the Lufthansa call centre on + 49 (0)180 58 38 426.
Baggage that exceeds the free baggage allowance can be transported as unaccompanied baggage at a more favourable price.

These regulations are subject to the government approval. In some cases the IATA fee of 1.5% of the highest Economy Class tariff
­applies.

These weight limits apply to all flights
– to and from Canada and the USA 2 baggage
2 baggage items
– via the USA (for flight legs that touch down in the USA) items of 23 kg
of 32 kg (70 lbs) each
– between Europe and Mexico (50 lbs) each
– from West Africa (return flight, ticket bought in West Africa)
– from Brazil to Europe and in the Middle East
(return flight, ticket bought in Brazil)
– between Japan and USA/Canada 2 baggage items of 32 kg (70 lbs) each
– from West Africa to Japan (return flight, ticket bought in West Africa)
– with a Star Alliance Round the World ticket

Exceeding the free baggage allowance of 23 kg (50 lbs) 40€*
No charge
for each baggage item, up to 32 kg (70 lbs) flat rate
– When in excess of 32 kg (70 lbs) per baggage item
Charges per baggage item depend on the destination
– Each baggage item in excess of the permitted two items

– When larger than the maximum total dimension of 158 cm (H+W+L)
