FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Unauthorized Tweet from NIKE Inc. Account
Beaverton, OR - On April 6, at 8 a.m., an unauthorized tweet was sent from the Nike Official
Communication Media Accounts.

This tweet included statements that criticized the Nike and Lebron James collaborative shoe
“Lebron XVII” as well as implying that those unable to afford the shoe would not be able to
make it into the National Basketball Association (NBA) and those that are able to afford the shoe
were “too white” to be in the NBA. The tweet was not authorized by Nike or any Nike employee,
nor does it represent in any way the values or beliefs of NIKE Inc., CEO Phil Knight, or our
partner Lebron James.

“Our mission at Nike is to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world,” says
Knight, “we consider athletes to be anyone who has a body. The individual that attempted to
degrade the Nike brand by making the public think we had deviated from our core purpose of
uniting the world through sport and creating an equal playing field for all will be brought to
justice.”

We are working with law enforcement to conduct an ongoing investigation to find out who sent
this tweet from a Nike account and how they got access to it. We at Nike regret this unfortunate
situation and apologize to all those who were affected by the tweet, including our loyal
customers and our partner Lebron James. We are currently working on methods to prevent a
situation like this from happening again.

Tomorrow, April 7, at 2 p.m., we will be holding a press conference to address any questions and
update the public further on the situation.

For any questions, please reach out to Sofi Olliver at sofiolliver@nike.com

Another statement will be released as we gain more information.
