Barriers in integrating technology in TVE

I. Introduction

Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) is fundamental to the development and

industrialization of nations. Thus the skills, abilities and competencies that are needed by the nation are
embedded in vocational and technical education, which are central to a nation’s social and economic
emancipation. Consequently, any nation that believes in education as an instrument par excellence for
national development has to recognize the significance of vocational and technical education and accord
it the desired attention and support that it deserves. Not everyone needs a university education. Who
would employ them if everyone became a university graduate?

Thesis Statement
It is generally believed that one of the major parameters for measuring a country’s economic
growth, development and self-reliance is the extent of the country’s development in vocational and
technical education. Thus the neglect of vocational and technical education is socially injurious as it
rubbing the nation of the contribution the graduates would make on national development. More
importantly, the society needs competent auto mechanics, carpenters, plumbers, electrician, secretaries,
fashion designer, storekeeper, and accountants to mention but a few. The current preoccupation with
university education in Philippines reduces economic opportunities of those who are more oriented
toward work than academic.

II. Body

1. The first barrier that may consider to in TVE is the luck of equipment to be use in the training
place/school.
a. Some of the students cannot afford to buy their own equipment to be used during
their training. It should be provided by the training center to ensure proper training so
that it would be easy for the trainee/student to understand the concept of the skill he
is gaining.
b. In public school, equipment is an issue in proper training of the student. When the
equipment is not enough for the number of students going to class, it may affect the
learning process and skill dissemination.
c. Enough and complete equipment will lead to success and better training opportunity
for everyone who are oriented toward work than academic.

2. The luck of facilities and training center that can be accessible for the public.
a. Facility that can be used in the training is one of the most important part to
successfully implement and facilitate the learning of skill. Facilities should be exact
to the requirements size of a specific work or training to be held in so that trainees
will feel the exact feeling as what is in the actual work.
b. Facilities should be available and can be easily found. Accessibility is an important
factor not to delay the training hours.

3. Proper training, teaching materials and equipment for the facilitator/trainer.

a. A good trainer can transfer good knowledge if he/she has the exact amount of
knowledge and skill with in. Proper training will be much more help for them, it will
bring more competency.
b. If the trainer has the skill and knowledge given by the training for him/her, the next is
the availability of teaching materials that can be used in teaching learning process.
Learning by doing is one of the easiest way to learn things especially when it comes
to skill development.

III. Conclusion

Technical Vocational Education is a good way to create a skill oriented workers that can compete
with the global standards. With the enough facilities and tools for better transfer of skill. Therefore
adhering with the scarcity of the upper mentioned problem will be a great help to create a skill oriented
workers that can be globally competitive worker trough out the world.

TOPIC NO. 6

Impact of Technology on Vocational Education

I. Introduction

It is career oriented and is traditionally non-academic. Often it is the manual or practical activities
related to a specific trade or occupation. Vocational education is sometimes referred to as career
education or technical education. Technology is one of the key building blocks in education today and
vocational education is no exception. Integration of technology in this sphere has given some
recognizable output and so the importance of the same is valued across the globe.

Thesis Statement
Just like in other academic areas integration of technology in vocational education is of great use
and comes around almost the same reflecting efficient outputs. As we can already see technology taking
the lead in education let’s see what technology does for students when it supports vocational learning.

II. Body
1. Technology is one of the key building blocks in education today and vocational education is
no exception. Integration of technology in this sphere has given some recognizable output
and so the importance of the same is valued across the globe.
a. Integration of technology into vocational instruction can provide schools with
potential access to the world of work outside of the school and allows teachers to
design useful learning environments that emphasize learning in the context of real
world activities for vocational students.
b. Technology assisted instructional learning provide ample opportunities for students
to broaden their learning skills and for teachers to develop better multimedia and
interactive courseware. Also, technology competency is one skill that will be needed
in all professions so working along with tech is a good way to make the learner work
ready along with all the needed skills.
c. We see that the needs for vocational education around the world are enormous
because of the changes occurring in the world of work. And since, Technical and
Vocational Education is concerned with the preparation of learners for employment,
providing them with knowledge, skills and attitudes desirable in the world of work. It
would be logical to state that vocational education must include technology deeply as
the working world already is ruled by ICT and hence should include training in ICT
applications as a part of the vocational education.

2. Teachers’ perceptions are very important to the success or failure of integrating technology
into instruction, and they play a significant role in this process. Teacher has been the change
agent and plays a critical role in the success of teaching and learning in vocational programs.
Vocational teachers should model the appropriate uses of technology in the workshop and
classroom to help equipping their students with the necessary knowledge and skills to use
these tools effectively in their working life.
a. To ensure technical and vocational programs are relevant to the society, vocational
teachers must be able to use these new technologies that are continually changing the
ways how people live, work, and learn. Therefore, vocational teacher should keep
pace with changing technology in order to assure their roles still relevant to produce
tomorrows’ labor. Because their competency in ICT is essential if they are to be
successful instructional leaders as they transfer this competency to their students
b. It would be logical to state that vocational education must include technology deeply
as the working world already is ruled by ICT and hence should include training in
ICT applications as a part of the vocational education.

3. The greatest impact technology can have on vocational schools, however, is its direct
influence on the nature of the practical courses.
a. It is pointless to master outdated technologies in class only to find out that the same
task can be carried out with newer, better devices that require different skills and
need you to re-train from the beginning: it is the responsibility of the teachers and
administrators of any good vocational school to keep their equipment up to date so
that the simulations of work situations offered in class are as realistic as possible and
make students immediately useful to the workforce with little to no adjustment
period.
b. Speaking of simulations, virtual and mixed reality are also an investment that may be
worth looking into for vocational schools: practicing work skills in a virtual
environment is not only safer for the students, especially in the case of trades that
deal with heavy machinery or toxic chemicals that may lead to injury if an
inexperienced worker makes a mistake, but also ultimately cheaper for the school:
software can emulate the workings of specialized machines that would be more
expensive than a mid-range computer, and a virtual reality lesson never runs out of
substances or parts to use: while it may initially feel like a strain on the school’s
budget, using virtual and mixed reality to reproduce work environments will
eventually lead to saving money.
III. Conclusion
In conclusion, using technology in both the academic and the practical classes of a vocational
school keeps students in touch with the world in which they will be working and ultimately benefits both
the learners and the school itself.

TOPIC NO. 7

Roles and functions of educational technology in 21st Century education.

I. Introduction

Our world is changing, and in order to prepare our children for this new world we need to change
the way we educate them. • The term 21st century has become the central part of education thinking and
planning for the future. Administrators and Teachers are actively searching for ways to prepare students
for the future, and the educational system has been evolving faster than ever before.

Thesis Statement
A classroom no longer consists of four walls with a blackboard and a lecturer in front, talking to
students instead of interacting with them. Interactive whiteboards, tablet PCs, projectors and a host of
other tools allow teachers to present information in ways that prompt discussion and collaboration.
Technology, in one form or another, has always been part of the teaching and learning environment. It is
part of the teacher’s professional toolbox. In other words, it is among the resources that teachers use to
help facilitate student learning.

IV. Body

1. Instruction should be student- centered. Students are directly involved and invested in the
discovery of their own knowledge. In this classroom model, the teacher would act as
facilitator for the students. Instead of passively receiving information, the students would
gather information on their own, under the guidance of their teacher.
a. Education should be collaborative. Student must learn how to collaborate with others.
Through collaboration and cooperation with others, students engage in experiential
learning that is authentic, holistic, and challenging.
b. Learning should have context. Student-centered does not mean that the teacher gives
up all control of the classroom. While students are encouraged to learn in different
ways, the teacher still provides guidance as to the skills that need to be acquired.
c. Education technology analyses the process of teaching thoroughly. It tries to find out
the different variables of teaching, their interlinks, effects upon each other,
relationships, theories of teaching, phases of teaching principles of teaching, maxims
of teaching etc. By developing the theories of teaching, it helps in improving the
quality of education.

2. Improvement of learning. Educational technology analyses the process of learning and the
related theories. It facilitates more and more of learning in less time. Overhead initially
served the purpose of entertaining children.
a. Enhancing goals of education. Education technology helps in finding out the right
objectives. Everything in this universe is undergoing tremendous changes and with a
very fast speed. Educational Technology helps in enhancing the right objectives in
the light of the changed circumstances and changed environment.
b. Development of teaching- learning materials. Teaching-learning materials are also as
important as anything else in the teaching- learning process. They have to be
accordance with the environment of the learners. Only right type if materials will
able to modify the behavior of the learner suitably making him a fit person for the
society.
3. Training to teachers. The changed type of environment with new curriculum and new
materials is to be handles by the teachers. The use of a projector enables teachers to move
more quickly through material, avoiding students and their questions by cutting out
distractions and anything that may slow down the information progress.
a. Development of teaching- learning materials. Teaching-learning materials are also as
important as anything else in the teaching- learning process. They have to be
accordance with the environment of the learners. Only right type if materials will
able to modify the behavior of the learner suitably making him a fit person for the
society.
b. Teaching-learning strategies. A strategy plays an important role in the hands of a
teacher in every teaching-learning situation. Overhead projector also works as a great
classroom management strategy to the teachers.

II. Conclusion
Helps in overall improvements. Educational Technology helps in locating the problems in the
different areas or education. It also helps in remedying the draw- backs. Evaluation of teaching-learning
process is also made better because through feedback, things are improved thoroughly and there is better
control over the process of education. The overhead projector is a great teaching tool as well as a
powerful technique for maintaining order in your classroom. Identification of need of the community.
Education Technology identifies the need of the community. It helps in providing equal education
opportunities to backward people, disadvantaged students and deprived sections of the society.
