This was the first album to be released by Foster the people. Pumped Up Kicks was a controversial
song at the time, and was banned from radio due to it's song meaning. As bizaar as that may
sound, the actual reception of this band and its work is exceptionally.
Disclaimer: My opinion of this band is biased, and you may not like the band in itself. As a product,
meaning the vinyl in which I bought, is a sturdy product. Comes with colored sleeve. plain black
record.

1. The chord progressions, bridge transitions, dynamics of blending in core phrasing of other
musical genres on different tracks, while still sounding like they all belong to the creation of one
or a couple individuals, are written with such amazing finesse that the music is simply
transcendental.

2. I would start listening to another track and think "man they've switched styles a little bit here,
and dam_ I can't stand this type of music". Then I just kept listening for some reason, and it quickly
escalated from "can't stand" to "well this isn't that bad" to "Hmm I think I might actually like this",
and by the end of the song I was thinking "I've never liked almost every single track from any band
from 2 albums - ever" - and I've listened to tens of thousands of songs across the entire spectrum
of genres of music spanning almost 30 years.

3. It's more than someone like me just raving about an album or a couple albums and how
awesome and great they are. Music changes us, it changes the way we interact with people, it
changes the way we love life, it repairs emotional damages, it establishes friendships when you

This album still gives me chills. I love almost every track. Though I was initiated like most through
the single "Pumped Up Kicks", I grew to love other tracks even more, such as "Houdini" and "Don't
Stop (Color on the Walls)." Other favorites of mine including the emotional "Waste" and "Miss You."
And "Call It What You Want" always gets me pumped up... even more pumped than "Pumped Up
Kicks", actually. I honestly feel bad for anyone who only heard "Pumped Up Kicks" because it's a
much weaker track than the others.

Yes yes, Pumped Up Kicks had a rough start a few years back, and rightfully so. Despite that
blemish on the band early on, I finally decided to try the album and found it enjoyable. Not totally
my style of music, coming from mostly metal and rock. I do enjoy changing it up and this was a
one of the albums I picked up to get me into some different genres. Overall I like it. I haven't
listened to it massively but my overall impression is good. Of course, the aforementioned song still
being my favorite. A worthy listen if you're looking for some funky, poppy, groovy stuff.

Foster the People's debut album Torches is fun music that takes the synth pop of the 1980's and
early `90s into the present. While many of the songs sound like something you've heard before, it
still sounds fresh. Many acts of this genre can come up with a catchy song or two but not hold the
momentum over the course of a full disc. Fortunately, that's not the case with Torches. Also worth
noting is that much like an `80s album, it clocks in at under 40 minutes, emphasizing quantity
over quality. The big (huge) hit is "Pumped Up Kicks" and with its memorable lyric and hooks, it's
easy to see why so many people love it. Other radio hits such as "Helena Beat" and "Don't Stop" are
nearly as irresistible as the former has a great singalong chorus and a bright synth line while the
latter is just as catchy and reminds you a lot of the Dandy Warhols. "Call it What You Want" and
"Houdini" are both super catchy with the former showing a nod to Dee-Lite. Other strong tracks
include the more reflective "Waste" and the infectious "I Would Do Anything for You" and
"Warrant". The remaining songs are okay. If you love "Pumped Up Kicks", Torches is certainly worth
the purchase.

The Album Was A Fresh Start, But...

When Foster The People released their debut album in 2011, I thought that
they would have a promising and very successful music career, but the few
years after that they have had less success in the recording studio than we
came to suspect. So what the band should do is do some more studying on
their music, take charge of their recording career and become an even more
successful band now, that way they will have a chance of beating the odds
by becoming an even more successful and productive alternative rock band.
I liked the MP3 album Torches well, but Foster The People could stand for
some more practice and greater success.

Great stuff! Have been meaning to buy this for years but hearing "Houdini" again recently gave me
the kick up the butt I needed to get out there and pick up a copy.

Superb songs, beautifully crafted. Just the sort of thing to have as a summer soundtrack (played it
a hell of a lot while on holiday and it just glides over you when you're sitting somewhere sunny as
the evening draws in).

Definitely need to pick up more by this band

I purchased this for 2-3 tracks really.

Whilst the album is "currently" available on prime music, ..it might notbe much longer.
So when this was offered up for around the price of a big mac, it was time to act.

whilst not a classic album it has enough going for it to make it listenable, their big hit-maker track
which brought the group to wider public awareness being one of them.

This album deserves more than 5 stars so I give it a 10 out of 10, this is a must have album, if you
loved Pumped up Kicks you will love the whole album, my personal favourite song is Houdini. I got
the album for Christmas and ever since I haven't stopped listening to it, I was surprised with the
music because usually on an album there are a couple of tracks that I don't like and there are only
a couple of bands that I really like who manage to get me to like every song and now Foster the
People are one of those bands I love every song on this album, and you'll be dancing from the
start to finish. I never get tired of listening to the album and I suggest this to everyone!

This is a really cheerful album. I hadn't realised how many tracks I had heard on the
radio/tv/youtube etc. I like FTP's sound and the overall hippy-ness of their lyrics and instruments.
They do something slightly different from other bands in the charts these days which is more
enjoyable. And their lyrics actually have meaning to them. I really liked this album.

necessarily flow too well into each other - a problem that is more common with modern albums

Pumped Up Kicks once you've listened to it a bit. Doesn't stay quite as interesting for as long as
some albums but definitely worth a buy.
