AMLA TREE BOOK-SHODHGANGA

INTRODUCTION – Amla tree has a hollowed


position in Ayurveda an india indigenous system of
medicine, According to belief in indian mythology
Amla is the first tree to be created in the
universe;Which belong to the family of Euphorbiaceae
and is also known as Phyllanthus emblica or indian
gooseberry. Amla is native to india and also grows in
tropical and subtropical regions of
pakistan,Uzbekistan,sri lanka,south East Asia, china
and malaysia.

Bark- Thine light grey bark exfoliating in small thin


irregular flakes.(anthony)

Flower- small,inconspicuous,greenish-yellow
flowerare borne in compact clusters in the axils of the
lower leaves.

Fruit- Fruit,globose,2.5-3.5 cm in diameter,


fleshy,smooth with 6 prominant line,greenish when
tender,changing to light yellow or pinkish colour when
mature, with a few dark specks:taste,sour and
astringent followed by delicately sweet taste.

Leaves- They are 3mm wide and 1.25-2 cm long,


alternate,bifarious,pinnate,leaflets
numerous,alternate,linear-obtuse,entire,petioles are
striated, round.
Seeds- Obovate – triangular ,3 celled 2 seed in each
cell.
Root- Feagments of dried main roots are cylindrical,about 5 longitudinally wrinkle and off white in colour.

Used part- Dried fruit,fresh fruit,seed,leaves,rootbark,flowers.(Ayurvedic medicine,oil, shampoo)
