Why is the study of biology important for society? Include at least one specific example.

Biology is very important in today’s society. The study of biology is underrated and
should be appreciated more. For one, without biology, we would not be able to properly study
and treat diseases. In the past, people did not understand how bacteria entered the body and
created disease. As biology developed, people learned more and more about how important
human biology truly is.
Another reason we study biology is so that we have a basic, and complex, understanding
of evolution and adaptation in different species. We can study evolution and see how a species
has changed over time. In chapter 11, the textbook mentions the evolution of the finch and the
change in the shape of its beak over a long period of time.
Biology helps us understand genetics. Biology helps us do this by breaking down
different components of DNA and help us recognize the different parts of our genetics. DNA is
important because it creates each individual person, and no two DNA stands are the same.
Studying mutation in genetics is also important because it is what tells us about how we evolve
as a species, or in other species as well. In a way, genetics is one of the most important concepts
in biology because it is what tells us how every DNA strand and cell is formed.
Biology also forms many different career fields. For example, doctors, nurses, and even
pharmacists all need to have an understanding of biology in order to be successful in their fields.
Without doctors, people would likely not be able to recover from illness. Scientists that study
different diseases also help us because they are the ones finding cures and helping people.
In biology, we may also study plants. In the film The Martian, an astronaut is able to use
biology to grow potatoes on the planet Mars. With his knowledge of biology, Mark Watney is
able to successfully have a potato farm on a foreign planet. He is a botanist, which is a type of
biology that is the scientific study of plants. Botany is just one field of biology, there are many
different fields in biology that contribute to society.
How we organize species is another important aspect in biology. Organization of
different species is important because it allows us to decipher one species from another. It allows
us to give species a name and categorize them into different families and phylums. By doing this,
we are able to organize every living thing on the planet earth.
In conclusion, biology is very important in society. It allows us to study different species,
genetics, and how species evolve slowly over time. Biology creates different career paths for
people to follow. It allows people to grow plants, study genetics, and even learn about the human
body. There are so many different aspects of biology that allows us to study so many different
things. It allows us to understand how people live and breathe. But most importantly, it allows us
to study the life of every living thing on Earth.
