en inglés
A
Lee todo lo que puedas.
Intenta leer en inglés tan a menudo
como puedas. Ayuda mucho hacerlo
un ratito cada día o cada dos días.
Relee los textos por segunda y tercera
vez; eso te ayudará a familiarizarte con
el uso del inglés en expresiones
y frases reales.
B
Disfruta de la lectura.
Leer es más divertido cuando no hay
interrupciones, cuando una buena
historia o un artículo interesante te
absorbe y el tiempo pasa volando.
Lo mismo ocurre cuando lees en otro
idioma. Si un texto es demasiado
complicado y te encuentras con
demasiadas palabras que no entiendes,
entonces leer se convierte en algo difícil
y deja de ser divertido. Si es posible,
no leas solo temas de estudio o de
trabajo: lee cosas que te interesen
personalmente.

C
Sigue leyendo.
Es natural pararse cuando te encuentras
una palabra o expresión que no
comprendes, y quedarse bloqueado.
Puedes
repasar las palabras que no conozcas
más tarde y buscarlas en un diccionario,
o preguntárselas a alguien.
D
La lectura mejora todas
tus competencias.
contextos particulares.
P A D R ES Leer es contagioso.
Si su hijo le ve leer, es muy probable que también adopte
esa costumbre, ¡en cualquier idioma!
B
Acelera.
Durante los exámenes lo normal
será que necesites leer un texto más
rápido que antes. Practica a leer
rápido: cronométrate. Por ejemplo,
date 3 minutos para leer 300 palabras.
Después, redúcelo a 2 minutos. Y luego
inténtalo en un minuto. Al principio
puedes probar esta idea con un mismo
texto, pero cuando vayas mejorando,
inténtalo con textos diferentes.

C
No te bloquees.
Recuerda que en un examen no puedes
preguntar ni buscar las palabras nuevas.
Si no conoces alguna palabra y no puedes
deducir su significado general por el contexto,
¡sáltatela y no pierdas tiempo!
D
Anticipa la respuesta.
Cuando en una pregunta se te ofrecen
varias respuestas posibles, intenta
contestar a la pregunta mentalmente
antes de leer las respuestas, y después
míralas para ver si alguna coincide
con lo que habías pensado.
E
Practica.
Hay un montón de material disponible para
que te prepares los exámenes de Cambridge
English, como A2 Key o B1 Preliminary.
Practica todo lo que puedas los diferentes
tipos de preguntas del cuaderno de lectura.

B
Read for fun.
Reading is at its most enjoyable when
the flow is uninterrupted, when you
get absorbed in a good story or an
interesting article, when time flies
by. It’s no different when you read
in a another language. If a text is too
difficult, if there are too many words
or phrases you don’t understand, then
reading becomes difficult, it stops being
fun. Where possible, don’t just read for
study and work purposes, read things
that interest you too.
D
Reading improves everything.
Lots of research has been carried out
on reading in a foreign language and
it clearly shows that reading practice
doesn’t just improve reading. It also
helps you to get better at English in
writing, speaking and listening as you
become more familiar with words and
how words are used in context.
P A R E N TS Reading is infectious.
If your children see you reading, the chances are they are
going to pick up the habit themselves, in any language!
A
Be prepared.
Know exactly what each type of question
is asking you to do. Is it a multiple
choice? Is it filling in the gaps of a text?
How many words do you have to write?
How much time do you have? It´s a good
idea to underline important words in any
exam question to help you focus on the
instructions.
B
Speed up.
In exam situations you will often need
to read a text more quickly than before.
Practise reading texts quickly: you can
time yourself. For example, give yourself
3 minutes to read 300 words, then give
yourself 2 minutes to read 300 words,
then try in 1 minute. You can repeat
this idea with the same text at first, but
then try it with different texts as you get
better at it.

D
Make predictions.
When a question gives you multiple
answers to choose from, try to answer
the question without looking at the
answers first. Then look at the answers
and check if one matches your prediction.
E
Practice.
There are lots of materials available to
help you prepare for Cambridge English
Qualifications such as A2 Key or B1
Preliminary. Get as much practice as you can
with different question types from the reading
paper. You can find information on our books
from Cambridge University Press
in www.cambridge.es/exams and links
to extra resources, sample tests, and more
from Cambridge Assessment English in
www.cambridgeenglish.org/es
P A R E NT S It’s really important that a student is familiar with the exam format.
You can help by assisting with homework, and checking they understand
what they have to do. Make sure they have time to study and time to rest!
