HOW TO ACTIVATE MRP FOR MATERIALS

1. SAP Support: Set up MRP Master Data & Activate


a. Define MRP Controller(s)
i. IMG -> Materials Management -> Consumption-Based Planning -> Master Data ->
Define MRP Controllers

ii. Double-click on desired plant

iii. Update details as applicable & SAVE


b. Check MRP Types
i. IMG -> Materials Management -> Consumption-Based Planning -> Master Data ->
Check MRP Types
ii. Review MRP types that are applicable to current business processes

iii. In “V1” – manual reorder point with external requirements:


1. The indicator “Include ext. rqmts.”

2. “blank” will ensure MRP does not take any reservations, etc., into account
during execution
3. “1” will look at reservations, etc., that have a requirement date within the
total horizon (ie – no end date)
4. “2” will only look at reservations, etc., that have a requirement date during
the replenishment lead time (ie – procurement processing time + planned
delivery time + GR processing time)
iv. In “VB” – manual reorder point planning:
1. The indicator “Include ext. rqmts” is set to blank to show “External reqmts
are not taken into account”
2. MRP will generate requirements only up to the max stock level when this
type is used in the material masters

c. IMG -> Materials Management -> Consumption-Based Planning -> Planning -> Activate
Materials Requirements Planning

i. MRP
1. Select Materials Requirement Planning
2. Set check mark for plants requiring MRP activation and SAVE

ii. Planning Files


1. Select “Set up planning file”

2. Create variant for impacted plant & SAVE


3. Execute planning file run
a. Select variant
b. Click “Start immediately”

4. Display results by selecting “Display Scheulding”


a. Select desired run & click Log for further details

b. Review results
d. IMG -> Materials Management -> Consumption-Based Planning -> Planning -> Define
Scope of Planning for Total Planning

i. Create Planning Scope

ii. Add sequence of plants/MRP areas to scope and SAVE

e. Define Planning Horizon


i. Set planning horizon for each impacted plant

ii. Default planning horizon


is 100 days

iii. Planning horizon definition: the length of time in days that the system will review
to determine if there is any requirement for a material

2. SAP Support: Ensure specific material type is set up for MRP
a. IMG -> Logistics-General -> Material Master -> Basic Settings -> Material Types -> Define
Attributes of Material Types
b. Double-click on desired material type

c. Select User department / MRP

d. SAVE changes
3. Ensure material master records have MRP tabs created:
a. Sdkfj

b. Should be able to use LSMW to extend existing material records to include MRP and Gen
Plant Data / Storage tabs

4. Determine desired MRP-relevant data


a. MRP Profile (if applicable)
b. MRP Type - key that determines whether and how the material is planned (ie – manual reorder point, auto
reorder point, forecast-based, etc)
c. Reorder point - if stock falls below this point, a PR will be generated to replenish stock
d. MRP Controller - The person responsible for a group of materials in MRP in a plant or company (Can be
generic "Ops MRP Controller" or can be associated w/ a specific person/group)
e. Lot Size - setting that indicates how the system will calculate the quantity to be procured or produced
(usually set to "HB" = replenish to max stock level)
f. Min Lot Size - (optional) indicates minimum amount of stock to be procured at a time
g. Max Lot Size - (optional) indicates max amount of stock to be procured at a time
h. Max Stock Level - max amount of stock to be maintained automatically through MRP
i. Planned Delivery Time - (optional) indicates how long the material generally takes to be
delivered; can be useful for items that require a long lead time
j. Availability Check - usually set to "01" = Daily Requirements

5. Update data in material records


a. Single record update
i. MM01 – enter material # to extend, select new tabs to create, enter applicable
data
b. Mass record update
i. MM17 – provides ability to update fields as long as the record has been extended
with the appropriate tabs (ie – MRP 1-4 tabs)
ii. LSMW – can be used to create new records / tabs & load applicable data
