New Licensing Scheme for 2005

Mintec has changed the licensing scheme for the 2005 Update CD (MineSight®
V3.50) for customers who run MineSight® with individual local keys. Networking
licensing will remain unchanged.

With the release of the 2005 Update CD, Mintec will provide you with a new
MineSight® programmable key for each of your existing valid individual licenses.

These new keys can only be used with MineSight® 3-D v3.50, and specially
rebuilt versions of MineSight® 3-D v 3.4-10 and v 3.3-10. Programs issued
before the 2005 Update CD will not execute with the new licensing scheme. Note
that your existing old keys will continue to be valid until (but not including) March
31, 2006, which will provide you a transition period to ensure that any old
programs (such as user subroutines) can be recompiled to be compatible with
the new keys. Mintec will require that all old keys be returned to Mintec once
users have transitioned to the new programs on the 2005 Update CD, installed
the new keys, and recompiled all older user subroutines.

The matrix of valid key/software combinations is:

Software New Maintenance New MTA/Lease Key Old Key

Key(Generation 1) (Generation 1) (Generation 0)

Pre-2005 X X OK
2005 OK with 2005 license Until lease expiry date Until March 31, 2006

Future OK (after maintenance Until lease expiry date X

paid and key updated)

For clients who wish to stay with existing versions of MineSight® (3-D, Compass,
Programs and Procedures), the Update CD will include zip files of MineSight® 3-
D v3.40 and MineSight® 3-D v3.30 that were built with the new licensing scheme.
The Update CD will also include all the “2004.01.31” release and patched
versions of MineSight® Programs and Procedures using the new licensing
scheme.

The new keys will come pre-burned with your company information as well as the
valid products the key is enabled for on the 2005 update CD. When activation for
next year’s software is required, or your licensing details change (such as a
change of products/modules), Mintec will supply you with a new license
configuration file. You will be able to apply this new license configuration to the
key with the new MineSight® License Manager (MSLM).

Note – you can also use the MSLM to upgrade your key by applying a new
license configuration file. Site administrators can use the MSLM to load in
multiple license configuration files, and have it apply the configuration across
their network.

The new, local licensing process can be divided into two main components,

1. The License Key

The license key contains information regarding the type of license you
have and the list of MineSight® products you are permitted to execute.
The MineSight® products will verify against this information.
2. The License Configuration File

The license configuration file stores the license key information and is
used for communicating that information between you and Mintec. It also
enables Mintec to provide you with a new configuration that you can apply
to your existing keys.

Each license configuration file applies to only one key.

In general, Mintec will hold a copy of all license configuration files

distributed to you.

Starting with MineSight® v3.50-00 all licensed MineSight® products will no

longer require the Maintenance License File (_minesightlicense) or the
License Key File as all required information is stored within the key itself.

For more details on the MineSight® License Manager see the help in $
(medexe)\mslmdoc\index.html.

New Key Modules and Menus

The key modules have been reworked and new MineSight® Compass menus
have been created. In addition to the “Full” key module (which enables all
MineSight® products), the available key modules are: Exploration, Geology,
Survey, Open Pit Mine Engineering, GSM, Underground, MineSight®
Operations , and Industrial Minerals.

MineSight® Grail Embedded

Additions include ability to determine project and resource directory and ability to
refresh Minesight® objects.

Plotting
Added plotting to DXF.

For detailed list please refer to the MineSight® 3-D Release notes (Appendix A).

Large Coordinates in MineSight®

MineSight® programs are now fully enabled to use large (e.g., UTM) coordinates
throughout the entire system. This update completes the last required portion of
the development – the implementation of large coordinates for drillholes. To
achieve high precision of drillhole coordinates one should use normalized
drillhole survey files. The values in drillhole survey files are now stored relative to
the file’s normalization constants allowing for better precision. Each MineSight®
drillhole survey file (file 12) can have its own normalization constants.

Starting with the Fall 2005 release all MineSight® programs recognize normalized
survey files.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Normalized drillhole survey files will NOT WORK with
earlier versions of MineSight® (ms3d/mscompass with versions 3.40-xx and
earlier, MineSight® Programs, Release 2004.01.31 and earlier).

Intersection Routines in MineSight 3-D®

With MineSight® 3-D v3.5 comes a completely revised set of intersection

routines. The underlying intersector logic (called Union) has been extensively
rewritten to improve the performance, memory usage, and accuracy of solid/solid
and solid/surface intersections. Traditionally, the most difficult intersection cases
are related to co-planarity, where triangles on the two surfaces or solids are in
the same location. This type of intersection situation is now handled much better
in the latest version of the intersection routines. In addition, the tools in
MineSight® 3D that make use of Union have been enhanced to take advantage of
some of the newer features, and new tools have been written. One of these is the
Check and Condition Surfaces with OCB tool which allows you to in one step
Calculate Surface Statistics, or Check Surface Integrity, or Condition the Surface
(remove duplicates, patch openings, clean up self-intersections, explode and
decimate). A new Decimation function is also available that lets you reduce the
number of triangles on a surface, but still maintain the accuracy of the surface.

With this update, the standalone version for each of these engines is available
in \winexe\union. For the proper program usage syntax, type a “-h” with the
program name at the command line (e.g., union –h).

MineSight® Data Analyst

MineSight® Data Analyst (MSDA) is a package of statistical and geostatistical

programs that replaces the older MineSight® m300 and m400 series programs,
and adds significant new functionality. It includes histograms, scatterplots,
cumulative probability plots, variograms, variogram 3D modeling and custom
reports.

MSDA reads all MineSight® drillhole, blasthole and block model files, as well as
ODBC compliant databases, spreadsheets and text files. A Data Source dialog
lets you connect to the desired file, choose specific fields, apply basic or SQL
filtering conditions and so on. These parameters remain active until you change
them, regardless of the MSDA application you are working on.

Data and tabular results are generated in various types and formats by all MSDA
applications. Generally, options are provided to export the data or table to an
HTML file, which may then easily be viewed, printed or imported into Microsoft
Word, etc. In certain special cases, such as Custom Reports, and the histogram
cutoff grade report, more sophisticated options are available for controlling text
fonts, size, colors, printing and exporting the file and so on.

MSDA uses an integrated third party charting tool which offers users a great deal
of power and flexibility. The product is known as ChartFX, and it is integrated into
histograms, scatterplots, cumulative probability plots, Custom Report charts,
variograms and the Variogram 3D Modeler. When you run any of these MSDA
applications, a very smart looking chart is generated. Subsequently, users have
access to powerful tools that let them edit the chart color, text size, font, grid
details, annotations, and much more. MSDA also adds the concept of chart style,
which means that users may name and save a combination of chart settings,
then apply them to other charts. Finally, ChartFX also lets users print a chart or
export it to a bitmap file; the latter may be inserted into other applications such as
Microsoft Word.

The MSDA Custom Report is a significant new addition. It allows one to design
and build almost any imaginable statistical report from any of the data sources
supported by MSDA. The Variogram 3D Modeling package (VAR3D) is a very
significant application that can be used to model complex variogram structures in
3D.

MineSight® Strategic Planner

These release notes will summarize the key additions and changes made since
the 2004 Update Release Notes.

MineSight® Strategic Planner (MSSP) is used to develop optimal mining

schedules to the end-of-mine life for open pit mines. Its main application is in
long-term strategic planning. The schedule produced summarizes by period:
• The benches being mined in each active pushback
• The ore, leach, stockpile and waste tonnages
• The truck and shovel requirements
• The revenues, fixed costs and variable costs
• The amount of material placed on each active destination site

This period-by-period information is further processed into summary tables and

used to calculate a Net Present Value figure for the schedule. The period-by-
period mining is selected to maximize the Net Present Value for the schedule.

The main additions made to Strategic Planner since the 2003/2004 Update are
the addition of stockpiles and quality/grade constraints for Type 2 ‘mill’ ore, split
of mined mill ore to processing plants and stockpiles, accommodation of multi-
area mining, stockpile and reclaim of mill ore in the same period, definition of
user specified reporting headers, and definition of destination precedence
constraints.

Type 2 mill ore secondary stockpiles: Strategic Planner now allows for mid-
grade, low-grade, and sub-grade stockpiles for the Type 2 mill ore. The
secondary stockpiles can be reclaimed in subsequent periods by defining the
amount of stockpiles to be reclaimed (manual reclaim only).

Type 2 mill ore quality constraints: Strategic Planner now allows for defining
quality/grade constraints for Type 2 mill ore materials.

Mill ore split in % to secondary stockpiles: Strategic Planner will now allow
mill ore being split into two parts; one goes to the processing facilities and the
other goes to secondary stockpiles.

Accommodate mining of phases from multiple areas: Strategic Planner will

now mine from multiple areas. For example, two phases mining from mining
area 1, two phases mining from mining area 2, etc.
All mill ore stockpiled and reclaimed in the same period: Strategic Planner
will now allow all mined mill ore to be stockpiled and then reclaimed in the same
period as they are mined. Additional use of equipment and cost will be kept.

User defined standard report headers: Strategic Planner will now allow a user
to define reporting headers for the standard report. Further, for schedule
materials other than “waste” one can designate the column position in which the
materials will be reported.

Destination precedence constraints: Strategic Planner will now allow a user

to define precedence constraints among destinations, e.g., ‘MUST USE’, ‘DON’T
USE’, and ‘AFTER’.

Minor changes/corrections were made to the Strategic Planner Interface over the
past year as well. For example, quality constraints in % were consolidated.

Known Issues in Strategic Planner:

• In order generate reports using menu the option “Reporting\Generate

Reports”, the “ASCII SpreadSheet Output File Name” in dialogue “Define
Output File Names” will need to be of the default form, “sum821.*”.

• The option “Reclaim All” in dialogue “Define Schedule Title/Options by

Period” should not be used when option “Mill ore split using a secondary
stockpile” in dialogue “Run Options” is selected.

• When reserve files are updated, they must be reloaded via dialogue
“Load/Define Reserve Files” to ensure the maximum number of benches
among all reserve files is properly set. Otherwise, this may result “script
out of bound” problem.

• The user needs to pay attention to the schedule materials defined in a

schedule project. All schedule materials need to be defined via the
dialogue “Standard Report Header Options”. For example, if you have two
waste types – waste and overburden - and you only define a header for
one waste type, this may cause a program setup problem or an empty
report header for waste type 2.

• Un-checking “Use Trucks, Shovels, Destinations” in dialogue “Project

Input Configuration” will also delete the average cycle time entries in
dialogue “Define Average Haulage Cycle Times”. Before executing
M821V1.EXE, a default cycle time of 30 minutes should be provided for
each phase to each destination in the M821 run file, otherwise, M821 will
not be able to send the scheduled materials to their destinations and will
exit without feasible solutions.
• The output table for SUMMARY OF LOADERS USED is incorrectly output
as SUMMARY OF TRUCKS USED after initial correct output of
SUMMARY OF LOADERS USED.

Fixes that have been made which, at the time of this release, are in testing:

• Fixed bug where selecting a new project did not reset all variables. Issue
was: Reserve Grades in “Select Grades” dialogue was not cleared.

• Fixed enabling/disabling of panels based on "Use truck ... destination"

flag.

• Fixed to properly reloaded default report headers based on mining

operation if "Use truck ... destination" is unchecked. Note: If the user
wants the MSSP interface to set default headers, uncheck and check
again the "Use truck ... destination" in dialogue “Project Input
Configuration”.

• Added default stockpile reclaim if "Use truck ... destination" is unchecked.

• Changed to set type2 mill and type1 stockpiles defaults & truck/shovel
defaults if "Use truck...destination" is unchecked.

• Fixed recomputing of destination number totals based on mining

operation.

• Added new Mining Percentage and validation logic to "Model Bench

Table" panel.

• Updated the resource file for backward compatibility due to Model

structure change.

• Fixed issue where "Stockpile Reclaim" panel had setup errors due to no
type2 mill destination and a similar issue for "Target Constraint" panel.

• Added new mineral limit production requirements to "Target Constraint"

panel.

• Expanded Quality min/max of production requirement type.

• Added IOP51 & PAR41-50 for runfile export/import.

• Scanned for type2 mineral data and set IOP51 accordingly.

• Changed minimum IOP452 to 0 for sites using no waste destinations.

• Fixed bug truncating cycle times to integers upon runfile export.

• Properly imported "stockpile amount" target constraints where type2

stockpiles were defined with no corresponding type1 stockpiles.

• Changed to properly export number of type2 mills for mining operations 1

thru 6.

Enhancements that have been made which, at the time of this release, are
in testing:

• Constraints on qualities for Type 2 mill ore.

• Maintain mining from multiple areas.

• Allow mined mill ore material to be split into mill feed and secondary
stockpiles

• Allow mined mill ore material to be stockpiled in surge stockpile and

reclaimed in the same period when they are mined.

Known Issues:
• In OpenGL mode, texture maps larger than a certain size (4K by 4K pixels) would casue
MS3D v.3.5 to crash (bug# 4274) due to a regression in Hoops 12. To avoid the crash a
basic image resampling function was implemented, resulting in the reduction of the
rendered texture resolution. To improve the image rendering in MS3D, use a third party
bitmap editor (PaintShop Pro), and resample the image (to 4K by 4K pixels) outside
MS3D before you texture the surface. Third party bitmap editors will have a ‘smarter’
resampling function than the one we implemented to work around the crash. We are
working with TechSoft to resolve this problem.
• In OpenGl mode, volume clipping is not recognized in plot preview (bug# 5326). It is an
issue with Hoops 12, and does not appear to be a problem in Hoops 13, which we will
release as soon as practical. Note that this does not affect the final plot to paper, only
the plot preview.

and geology intervals, and assay intervals are not continuous, the geology intervals were
not displayed.
• Changed DSSService to now create the folder for new object submissions.

CAD
• Fixed Surface->Merge With OCB. Selecting surfaces without a right click before hitting

shell. Also added a call to end the selection session so that the new selection would be
picked up.

General
• Model views can how have 5 labels in the Legend Tool.
• Changed the General Gridder to no longer request an open object as soon as the
function starts, but will ask once an open object is absolutely necessary.

Blast Pattern Editor

• Changed to make warnings about duplicate IDs and blank holes just simple notify
messages and no longer prevent the Blast Pattern Editor from shutting down.

CAD
• Changed the triangulation dialog to assign DTB_BREAK or DTB_BOUNDARY attribute to
a point. Attempting to apply the “Line Thin” option on this point would cause MS3D to
crash.
• Corrected both the Surface Clip and the Polyline Clip functions work properly when the
user has both, "Save results ..." and "Entire selection" options turned OFF.
• On the Geometry properties, added the First Label Distance for line labels so that on
polylines that are smaller than this first label distance, these polylines will not get labeled.

Data Manager
• Fixed to properly refresh objects regardless if there are selected elements.

Drillhole Views
• Fixed the DH Editor Selection to select intervals properly.

General
• Changed the spinner on the Polyline Smooth dialog to no longer require an Enter, when
the value is changed via the text field only.
• Removed the Shape Table from the Tools menu.
• Rendering performance improvement when using project cache on large projects.
• When using cache Resolve, do not add objects from resource files having characters
after the .msr extension (eg, dog.msr123).
• When using caching, removed the "Memory Full" message when opening a geometry
object that has no geometry.

Model Views
• Made 2D display and query consistent for modelviews of rotate models when gridset
follows block edges (because of different rounding 2D display and query could show
adjacent blocks).

Pit Expansion
• Fixed problem with preprocessing of strings before the next expansion that could cause a
crash when several parameters were simultaneously changing. (also in 3.20-06)

Ring Design
• Fixed problem with a misplaced Rig Head when editing existing rig.

Back to Table of Contents

MS3D v3.30-00 dev10 & MSCompass v.1.80-00 dev10 Internal Release – Oct 13/2003

solid is attributed and had a material). If an element is not attributed or does not have an
attributed material, the object’s material will be used to determine the code.

Fill Patterns
• Fixed to not crash for patterns that were in other fill pattern text files but now no longer
exist.

Year-End Maps
• Changed to recognize attributed surfaces as phase surfaces. There is still the restriction
of one surface per object.

Attrb1322.dll (v.1.3.2.2)
Attribdb13_16.mdb

CAD
• Decimate function improvements.
• Solid, Surface Clip function: There was a problem with maintaining a list of selected
surfaces after the intersection when using option "Save result to edit object". That made
second intersection impossible.

someone expects it to be column aligned.
• Added scroll bar to item lists with more than 5 columns so you can access items which
used to be inaccessible when laid out off the screen space.

MSCompass
• Fixed bug with multirun packages ‘losing’ some procedures – apparently randomly

Plotting
• Plot layout scale bar: For imperial projects, scale will now show #" : #' and metric ones # :
# as opposed to just # : # for both.

New for this version:

Attrb1322.dll (v.1.3.2.2)
DBConvert.exe (v.1.0.0.1)
Dss316.dll (v.3.1.6.0)
DSSService.exe (v.3.1.5.1)

CAD
• Fixed Create->Closed Polygon to display the area in the dynamic display for more than
just the first polygon.
• Fixed Point->Add and Point->Move to not be so slow when there is a lot of stuff displayed
in the viewer.
• Fixed crash when using Point Elevation Snap.
• Added target multiplier in autoslicer to not type all the zeroes for target value.
• Changed autoslicer to allow the user to change naming while preview is on so that new
values will be used on Apply.

General
• Edit Mode feedback area, and Snap Mode feedback area have been relocated to be on
the first icon bar at the top of MS3D. This is to allow more space for dynamic display
status line, for lower resolution monitors.
• Corrected to restore surfaces/boundary polygons that had blanks in the object name.

MS-IP
• Made sure that after editing geometry for an AR cut, the along/against stay the same and
do not change to the correct values on 2D page.
• Added the ability to call the autoslicer tool from within MSIP. Currently targeting on
reserves tonnage is available only when using model views without partials map (all other
autoslicer targets are available for partials map and AR cases) (#2846).
• Fixed waste material percent crash.
• Disabled autoconverting scripts.
• Fixed volume reporting problem; in some cases it was off by a factor of 100.

Selection
• When the page or dialog was changed in the Plot Layout Editor, the selection box for
indicating the currently selected area in the plot layout would find itself out of sync with
the area it is supposed to represent.

MS3D v3.30-00 dev05 & MSCompass v.1.80-00 dev05 Internal Release - Aug 08/2003

New for this version:

Attrb1322.dll (v.1.3.2.1)
MSTable210.dll (v.2.0.1.0)

Note: this version reverts back to using Hoops634.

Blast Pattern Editor

• Added checks to prevent duplicate IDs for polyline fill using the count & distance option.

CAD
• Changed Autoslicer to re-slice on Apply after Preview if a change to the dialog was made
that affects the geometry of the slices. Changes on the naming page, or selection of the
target object do not affect geometry of slices, so they will not trigger re-slicing (#2974).
• Change the defaults on the Autoslicer “names” tab dialog for the first count value and
count increment from 0 to 1.
• Fixed crash caused by left-clicking a selection box around an empty (node-less) area.
• Fixed crash for the fill pattern on the properties dialog. The last two default hoops
patterns were not properly initialized.
• Added a new option to the Triangulation dialog to thin polylines. The thinning is
controlled with a user-specified tolerance. The option is used to reduce/simplify break
lines and boundaries. The can also be used to fix a “Partial result” problem when dealing
with complex data.
• The Intersect Solids tool dialog was changed to allow many selected solids in only group
(A or B) to calculate the union or intersection of the selected solids. Under the hood, the
algorithm creates stacks of lists of solids to be processed and calls the Union engine
multiple number of times.
• New Check/Condition surfaces with OCB; new tool implements 14 different functions. It
is designed to work with extra large data. Data can be selected from the viewer or from
the OCB. The dialog allows changing the order in which functions are executed. There
is a feature to save the dialog state into named profiles.

Compass
• Appended a backslash to the environment variable path containing only the drive letter
name (#3044).

Legend Tool
• Fixed crash that occurred when previewing a legend that displayed information from a
closed acQuire drillhole view.

Materials

MS3D v3.30-00 dev03 & MSCompass v.1.80-00 dev03 Internal Release - July 3/2003

New for this version:

cgm900.hdi (v.900.1.0.0)
hpgl2900.hdi (v.900.1.0.0)
hoops900.hdi (v.900.1.0.0)
MSTable210.dll (v.2.0.1.0)
Printf900.hdi (v.900.1.0.0)

Blast Pattern Editor

• Changed to allow hole selection via the viewer (#1451).
• Enhanced to allow two polygons to be selected for blasthole boundary constraints
(#2160).
• Fixed problem with polygon boundary check, where blastholes appeared outside the
polygon.

CAD
• Fixed Element->Scale to dynamically scale elements properly.
• Fixed spline call for polylines (was erroneously treating polylines as polygons). Also fixed
state of spline number spinner on dialog open; it was always disabled on start of the tool
(one had to uncheck-check the use spline toggle to make it active).
• Isopach tool:
o Fixed problem of sometimes not being able to close an object after it have been
used in isopach tool.
o For large resolution, the grids were made square instead of rectangular which
could result in not contouring the whole requested area. As a result the contours
were cut if the easting range was larger than the northing range.
o Added restoring the dialog window (if it was minimized) when selecting
"isopachs" from the polygon menu while the dialog is still on.
• Solid Intersector tool: Lines of intersection are now attributed by solids
from group A. As a ‘side effect’, this helped to resolve ambiguities when reconstructing
intersection polygons form touching intersection lines.
• Surface Clip function: Boundary surfaces are limited (reduced) by bounding box built
around surfaces to clip. This significantly improved the tool’s performance especially
when large boundary surfaces used against many smaller surfaces in the, “Clip each
element separately” mode.
• New Decimate Surface function to reduce/simplify solids or surfaces. This function is
useful for validation and when working with complex data. 3.5 million triangles can be
decimated in 30 seconds.
• Union engine:
o Added attribution for lines of intersection. Intersection lines gets attributes from
group A.
o Improved memory management. This was a major development that optimized
memory management and allowed processing of larger data.
o Optimized processing of self-intersecting surfaces. Any self-intersected surfaces
can now be processed in linear time.
o Improved intersection of co-planar surfaces. Now only edges of co-planar areas
are intersected. Internal parts are preserved. This minimized the amount of
generated new data and improved reliability of the process.
o Optimized storage and processing of spatially distributed data. Now it can
efficiently process any possible type of 3-D data; clustered data, Irregularly
distributed data, differently oriented, and large versus small. Note: there is no need
anymore to orient data horizontally to get better performance from the engine.

Appendix D: MineSight® Installation Instructions
This CD can be used to UPDATE or make a NEW installation of MineSight®. As an UPDATE,
existing files are overwritten if they match files on the CD. New files are added to the directories
and old files with no matching CD files are left untouched. As a NEW installation, all MineSight®
files will be written into the selected directory.

====================== I N S T R U C T I O N S ======================

In order for all installation options to work properly you will need to log on as a user that has
permissions to install software and system drivers. This will generally be a user with Windows®
2000/XP Administrator permissions.

BACKUP your existing MineSight® installation.

CHECK YOUR DISK SPACE. NEW installations require a total of 600 MB of disk space.
UPDATE installations require less disk space since previously installed files are not added but
rather updated.

SAVE SITE-SPECIFIC FILES. Skip this step if you are making a NEW installation. Otherwise, if
you have site-specific files (e.g., plot.inf, digit.inf, medlist.bat) copy them to a save directory.

START THE INSTALLATION. Normally, simply loading the CD will automatically start the
installation. The installation can also be started in any of the following ways:

Click Start, click Run, and enter d:\winnt\setup.

From Windows Explorer®: double click on file d:\winnt\setup
From DOS: at the command prompt, enter d:\winnt\setup.

where d: is your specific CD drive containing the CD.

Click the Next button on the Welcome Screen. Read the License Agreement carefully and click
Yes only if you accept the terms. Text on the Information Screen also appears as file,
\winnt\ReadMe.txt on the CD. Click the Next button to get past the Information Screen.

The next screen allows you to perform one of several different setups. A "Full" setup installs all
MineSight® program products. A "Module" setup allows you to select only the products you want
installed. Both "Full" and "Module" setups provide either a "Compact" or "Typical" option.
Choose "Compact" to install only the minimal required files (required executables and metlib
directory). Choose "Typical" to also install online documentation (optional files such as Dipper
will be included in the "Full" setup). The "Full" setup also has a "Custom" option allowing you to
omit from the installation certain program products, optional files, or online documentation.
MineSight® Strategic Planner can be installed using either the "Full Custom", "Module Compact",
or "Module Typical" setups.

The "Network Client Installation" is only for installing system files, shortcuts and registry settings
on a network client machine. Prior to selecting this setup type, you must have already performed
an installation on the server machine using any of the other setup types.

Upon clicking Next at the Setup Type screen, the install program will ask for the drive and
directory in which to install MineSight® if you are performing a "Full" or "Module" installation. If
you want to change the default installation directory, click the Browse button to select another
drive and directory.
If you are performing a "Network Client Installation", you will be asked to click Browse to locate
and select the network server's MineSight® folder. You will be required to first map a drive letter
to the server before using the browser as this will affect the execution of MineSight®.

If the setup chosen is either "Full Custom", "Module Compact", or "Module Typical", the next
screen will allow you to include/omit certain components.

Note the User Subroutine package (LIBALL plus the user subroutine object modules) that is
installed is a full 32-bit Windows version to be used with Digital Visual Fortran 6.0.

You will next be given a choice of a program folder in which to put the MineSight® icons. The
default will be "MineSight", but you can rename this folder or choose to put the icons in an
already existing folder. The working directory set up for each of these icons will usually be C:\.
Clicking Next will start the actual installation process.

You will next be given a choice of where you wish to set environment variables. Setting the
environment variables in the User section is ideal for a single computer user. Setting these
variables in the System section allows multiple users of the same computer to use the same
System environment settings providing that these variable names are not also defined in the User
section. Should the same environment variable be defined in both sections, the User
environment variable will take precedence.

After your chosen installation is complete, a few things will occur in the background. Environment
variables and Registry settings will be set or updated with current information.

The MineSight® Grail installation will then be performed starting three separate Python
installations in succession. In some cases, you may be prompted a popup dialog asking to
restart the computer now. Please click CANCEL; otherwise, the installation will not be able to
perform its cleanup tasks. See Appendix E in these release notes for Grail Installation
Instructions.

The .NET installation will occur next followed by MSDA. The wizard will skip the .NET installation
if it detects that .NET was already installed. Approximately 100 MB of disk space is required to
install .NET and MSDA.

If selected, MineSight® Strategic Planner will install next.

Next, the Sentinel key driver is installed. If a prior version already exists, it will first be uninstalled.
All Sentinel USB keys will need to be removed prior to the installation (and uninstallation if
applicable). In some cases, the Sentinel Installation may prompt a popup dialog asking whether
to reboot now or wait until later. Please respond LATER; otherwise, the MineSight® Installation
will not be able to perform its cleanup tasks. Approximately 14 MB of disk space is required to
install the driver.

If you chose an install option that includes documentation, an installation program for the Adobe
Acrobat Reader will execute. If you already have this installed, click the "No" button on the
Adobe screen and the installation will stop. Otherwise, you will tell it where to install, and it will do
so. The Acrobat Reader requires about 55 MB of disk space.

To complete the installation program, click on the Finish button.

RESETTING ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES. The install program automatically sets the

necessary environment variables in either the User or System section as specified above.
Environment variables defil, medexe, metlib, PYTHONHOME and PYTHONPATH will
be set. The directory you are installing to is assigned to medexe and is appended to the
PATH variable. PYTHONHOME is also appended to the PATH variable. If you want to
change these environment variables, you may do so using Control Panel\System.

One simplified means of setting User environment variables is to import the installation
generated registry files, mintec.reg and hoops.reg, residing in the installed \Support
subdirectory. After the Administrator grants the user read & execute permissions for these
files, log into the user's account and import mintec.reg and hoops.reg by using Regedit or
simply by double-clicking the files in Windows Explorer.

INSTALLING MINESIGHT® STRATEGIC PLANNER. MineSight® Strategic Planner can be

installed via setups "Full Custom", "Module Compact", or "Module Typical" described above. If
you elect not to choose this option, you can still install it later as a separate installation package
residing in directory \winnt\msSTGPlan on the CD. Although not available under "Network Client
Installation", you may still install it as a separate installation package for clients. This installation
requires about 12 MB of disk space and can be started in any of the following ways:

Click Start, click Run, and enter d:\winnt\msSTGPlan\setup.

From Windows Explorer®: double click on file d:\winnt\msSTGPlan\setup
From DOS: at the command prompt, enter d:\winnt\msSTGPlan\setup.

where d: is your specific CD drive containing the CD.

SITE-SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS. Retrieve any site-specific files you saved earlier. Copy
the proper site-specific plotting programs to m122v1.exe and plotv1.exe. To determine the
proper version of M122xx and PLOTxx, check page 122-3 in the M120 Programs section of the
documentation (e.g., if you have an HP plotter that doesn't use HPGL/2, copy m122hp.exe to
m122v1.exe and plothp.exe to plotv1.exe).

ENVIRONMENT AND PATH.

The environment variables necessary to run MineSight® are MEDEXE, METLIB and DEFIL and
the path. These environment variables should already be properly set by the installation. An
explanation of these variables is as follows.

MEDEXE should be set to C:\winexe – or the path to the subdirectory where the MineSight®
executable files exist on your system.

METLIB should be set to C:\winexe\metlib\ – or the path to the subdirectory where the MineSight®
procedure files exist on your system.

PYTHONHOME should be set to C:\python22 – or, the path to the subdirectory where the
Pythonexecutable files exist on your system.

DEFIL should be set to .\defil or just . (a single period).

The PATH variable must include the path to the subdirectory where the MineSight® executable
programs are located.

HOOPS SETTINGS IN THE REGISTRY. The installation automatically creates the HOOPS
folder in the registry. The installation automatically uses the settings found in hoops_opengl.reg
for better video performance. If you are experiencing video problems executing the MineSight®
software, please import registry file, hoops_msw.reg, found in the installed \Support
subdirectory by using Regedit or by double-clicking it under Windows Explorer.
Should you manually need to create the HOOPS folder in the registry, run the registry-editing
program by selecting Start à Run à REGEDT32. There are three variables to set in the registry.
Note that only the logged-in user will have the HOOPS environment installed.

The HOOPS_PICTURE variable is required:

Select the HKEY_CURRENT_USER on Local Machine by highlighting the

HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder.
Choose the menu option, Edit à Add Key.
Enter HOOPS for the key; enter REG_SZ for the class.
Click on the HOOPS entry to open the folder.
Choose Edit - Add Value.
Enter HOOPS_PICTURE for the value name.
The type will be already entered as REG_SZ.
Click on OK.
When the window opens asking for a value string, enter msw/window0 or opengl/window0,
depending on which driver you want to use.
Close the registry editor.

The HOOPS_FONT_DIRECTORY points at the system that is examined by MineSight® 3-D for
valid fonts to use in the graphics viewer. Normally this should be set to your Windows font
directory:

HOOPS_FONT_DIRECTORY: REG_SZ: c:\winnt\fonts

The HOOPS_DRIVER_OPTIONS sets how much of the screen is taken up by MineSight® MGI
programs, e.g., M650ED. The default setting should be:

Hoops_driver_options: REG_SZ:subscreen=(-.9,.9,-.9,.9)

This takes up 90% of the screen, and is calculated from the center of the screen. For 100% of the
screen, set it to:

Hoops_driver_options:REG_SZ:subscreen=(-1.0,1.0,-1.0,1.0)

Change it by clicking on the HOOPS folder, then highlighting the hoops_driver_options setting
and choosing Edit - string. Save your changes.

The HOOPS_TEXT_FONT sets the font used in the MGI programs. No default is set for this, so
the system default font will be used. To set the variable use:

Hoops_text_font:REG_SZ:name=system default

Other choices for the font are: sansserif, roman, typewriter, stroked, Newfield, Enfield,
Brooktondale or Kuma.

Appendix E: MineSight® Grail Installation Instructions
MINESIGHT® Grail Windows Installation Instructions

This wizard installs MineSight® Grail and supporting Python software tools. If an older version of
Python is detected, it will first be uninstalled and then the newer Python version from the CD will
be installed.

====================== I N S T R U C T I O N S ======================

In order for all setup options to work properly you will need to be logged on as a user that has
permissions to install software and system drivers. This will generally be a user with
Administrator permissions.

CHECK YOUR DISK SPACE. This installation requires about 50 MB of disk space.

START THE INSTALLATION. Normally, this installation is started by the MineSight®

installation. The installation can also be started in any of the following ways:

Click Start, click Run, and enter d:\winnt\Grail\setup.

From Windows Explorer®: double click on file d:\winnt\Grail\setup
From DOS: at the command prompt, enter d:\winnt\Grail\setup.

where d: is your specific CD drive containing the CD.

Upon clicking Next at the Information screen, the following screen allows you to select either a
"Compact", "Custom", "Network Client", "Network Server" or "Typical" setup.

The "Typical" setup installs all MineSight® Grail & Python files. The "Custom" setup allows you to
omit certain components. The "Compact" setup installs only the minimal required files (omitting
documentation). Each of these three types of setups installs files and updates registry settings.

For a client/server network installation, use the "Network Server" setup to first install the required
files on the server machine (a "Network Server" setup actually functions the same as a "Typical"
setup). Then use the "Network Client" setup for each client machine to complete the installation.
The "Network Client" setup provides a screen requiring you to browse the network to locate the
Python directory previously installed on the server. You will be required to first map a drive letter
to the server before using the browser as this will affect the execution of MineSight®. The
"Network Client" setup then updates the client machine's registry without copying any data files.

PYTHON INSTALLATION. Three different Python installations will occur. Unless Python has
already been installed, you will be required to install all three installations. If an older version of
Python's Interpreter was previously installed, it will automatically be uninstalled as it will not be
compatible with MineSight® Grail. If an older version of Python's Win32 Extensions is already
installed, you will be prompted to first uninstall it. Please do so as it too may not be compatible
with MineSight® Grail. You will not be asked to uninstall Python if the version you currently have
is newer.

In some cases, a Python Installation may prompt a popup dialog asking whether to reboot now or
wait until later. Please click CANCEL; otherwise, the MineSight® Grail Installation will not be able
to perform its cleanup tasks.

To complete the installation program, click on the Finish button.

SETTING ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES. The wizard will automatically set the necessary
environment in the User Variables section of the Environment Variable settings. If you want
these as system environment variables, they can be easily moved via System in the Control
Panel.

If you have any questions about this installation, contact Mintec Technical Support.
Appendix F: MineSight® Data Analyst Installation Instructions
This wizard installs MineSight® Data Analyst and supporting .NET software tools. The wizard will
skip the .NET installation if it detects that .NET was already installed.

====================== I N S T R U C T I O N S ======================

In order for all setup options to work properly you will need to be logged on as a user that has
permissions to install software and system drivers. This will generally be a user with
Administrator permissions.

CHECK YOUR DISK SPACE. This installation requires about 12 MB of disk space. An
additional 97 MB is required to install .NET if not already installed.

START THE INSTALLATION. Normally, this installation is started by the MineSight®

installation. The installation can also be started in any of the following ways:

Click Start, click Run, and enter d:\winnt\MSDA\setup.

From Windows Explorer®: double click on file d:\winnt\MSDA\setup
From DOS: at the command prompt, enter d:\winnt\MSDA\setup.

where d: is your specific CD drive containing the CD.

The Information Screen text you are currently reading appears on the CD as file,
\winnt\MSDA\MSDAReadMe.txt.

Upon clicking Next at the Information screen, the following screen allows you to select either a
"Network Client", "Network Server" or "Typical" setup.

The "Typical" setup installs all MineSight® Data Analyst files and updates the shortcut and
environment variable settings on a local machine.

For a client/server network installation, use the "Network Server" setup to first install the required
files on the server machine. Then use the "Network Client" setup for each client machine to
complete the installation. The "Network Client" setup provides a screen requiring you to browse
the network to locate the MSDA directory previously installed on the server. You will be required
to first map a drive letter to the server before using the browser as this will affect the execution of
MineSight®. The "Network Client" setup then sets the client machine's MSDA shortcut without
copying any files.

The install program will next ask you to specify the MSDA data folder name.

You will next be given a choice of a program folder in which to put the MSDA icon. The default
will be "MineSight", but you can rename this folder or choose to put the icon in an already existing
folder. Clicking Next will start the actual installation process.

.NET INSTALLATION. The .NET installation will occur next. It is required by MSDA and will be
installed locally even if using the client/server network scheme. The wizard will skip the .NET
installation if it detects that .NET was already installed.

SENTINEL INSTALLATION. Normally, the Sentinel key driver installation is performed by the
MineSight® installation; otherwise it will be performed next. If a prior version already exists, it will
first be uninstalled. All Sentinel USB keys will need to be removed prior to the installation (and
uninstallation if applicable). In some cases, the Sentinel Installation may prompt a popup dialog
asking whether to reboot now or wait until later. Please respond LATER; otherwise, the
MineSight® Installation won't be able to perform it's cleanup tasks. Approximately 14 MB of disk
space is required to install the driver.

To complete the installation program, click on the Finish button.

SETTING ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES. The wizard will automatically set the necessary
environment in the User Variables section of the Environment Variable settings. If you want
these as system environment variables, they can be easily moved via System in the Control
Panel.
