Application Procedures

1.Documents to be Submitted

Please use the checklist on the next page and ensure ALL required documents are submitted.
Some of the required documents are contained in this PDF.
Please print all pages using double-sided printing.

Important Points for Application

1) The documents for submission should be written in either Japanese or English onto A4 paper by
the word-processing software. In case of the documents are written in other languages, the
Japanese translation should be necessary.
2) The name and birthday written in the application form should be same as those on your
passport.
3) The University will not return any of the documents once they have been received. Moreover,
we are unable to return your documents after submission if it is judged that you do not meet the
scholarship application requirements.
4) Ritsumeikan University will not accept applications unless all required documents are included.
All documents that are to be sent directly to the university must arrive no later than the deadline.

they are sent as photocopies on which an authorized stamp/seal has been given by their issuing agency. (The
stamp itself must be original, not photocopies.)

Please complete this form in the language in which your program is held (English or Japanese).

* Field of Study should be a summary of your studies/research up until present, whereas Study Program in Japan should refer
to what you hope to accomplish during your study/research term in Japan.

4. Recommendation by the dean or a person of higher position at the applicant s school or


institution (to be written to the President of Ritsumeikan University, Japan)

5. Certificates of completion or certificates/letters stating expected graduation date of


programs and academic degrees awarded by undergraduate or graduate schools

6. Academic transcripts issued by undergraduate or graduate schools attended (to be


attached with a clear indicator, such as GPA or specific rank order)

7. Summary of thesis written for degree most recently completed (please attach with
application)

8. Certificate of employment Only for those currently employed at time of application

9. Applicant s family or citizen registry in home country. If such a certificate cannot be obtained,
a birth certificate is also acceptable. (Must be the original, or include the official seal of the
issuing government organization)

10. Copy of applicant s passport (if you have a passport)

11. Proof of linguistic talent/practical expertise (e.g., TOEFL, TOEIC, Scores from the
Japanese as a Foreign Language section of the Examination for Japanese University
Admission for International Students (EJU) / Japanese Language Proficiency Test)

12. If possible, photocopies of any additional certificates of professional/academic development


(Eg. Results from special training courses, academic awards, etc.)

13. Certificate of Health (Please use the prescribed form, or a form that contains the same
information as the prescribed health form.)

14. Three (3) photographs of the student (taken within 6 months, 4.5x3.5 cm, from the waist up,
full faced, no hats or caps on and including the student's name and nationality on the reverse
side, one to be pasted on the designated spot on each form)

In order to become full-time degree seeking students, research students may, during their research term, take
the entrance examination of the graduate school in which they are enrolled. If this exam is passed, and all
appropriate entrance procedures are completed, it is possible for research students to become degree-seeking
student at the same graduate school.

Notice

Research students wishing to enter into a Ritsumeikan University Master s or Doctoral course may be
able to extend their scholarship award until the completion of their master s program (24 months) or
doctoral program (36 months). However students already enrolled in Master s course studies are unable
to extend their scholarship award to doctoral studies upon completion of their master s program.
