ENTREPRENEURIAL MANAGEMENT

Time: Three Hours Maximum Marks: 100

Note:

1. The paper is divided into three sections: SECTION-A, SECTION-B and SECTION-C.
2. There are seven questions in SECTION-A, attempt ANY FOUR.
3. SECTION-B has five questions, attempt ANY THREE.
4. All the questions of SECTION-C (Case Study) are compulsory.

SECTION-A (10 Marks each)

1. “Entrepreneurship is a process of giving birth to an enterprise.” Discuss.


2. Elaborate on the challenges faced by Indian entrepreneurs. Write a note on any successful
entrepreneur.
3. Who is an Entrepreneur and Intrapreneur, explain the various factors motivating people to
become entrepreneurs?
4. “Entrepreneur and Entrepreneurship are catalysts in the process of economic development of a
country.” Explain with examples?
5. “An economy is the effect for which entrepreneurship is the cause.” Exemplify.
6. Answer the following:
a. Franchising.
b. E-entrepreneurship.
7. Explain the significance of entrepreneurship management. Comment on “The need for high
achievement” and “The Profit” theories of entrepreneurship?

SECTION-B (15 Marks each)

8. What is advertising? Suppose an Entrepreneur manufacturing south silk sarees wants to


advertise his/her saree, what promotional tools, he/she should use for informing customers
about his/her saree and why?
9. What is training, explain its need in small-scale industries. Discuss the various
methods/techniques of training employees in small sector?
10. “Franchising is not an unmixed blessing.” In the light of this statement, describe its advantages
and disadvantages?

11. You have been appointed as an Assistant Production manager in a company. You have been
asked to design an appropriate production planning and control system for the company. You are
required to list the steps involved in designing the production planning and control system?

SECTION-C (15 Marks)


Case Study (Compulsory)
The concept of entrepreneurship development is explained by a case of Adani Group, for which Gautam
Adani is the founder. At his young age, Gautam Adani moved from his birth place Ahmedabad to
Mumbai. He was 18 when he moved to Mumbai, leaving his family. He started his career as a diamond
sorter with Mahindra Brothers. After gaining enough of experience, within two years of his work with
Mahindra Brothers, he has established his own diamond brokerage business.
In his first year of business only he has earned a huge amount of profit of about ten lakh rupees,
which was very huge amount during 1980s. He then started to trade with the commodities such that he
can buy PVC for the plastic factory that is being run by his brother.
Adani Enterprises was established by him in the late 1980s. He was trading with the
commodities related to agriculture and power industries. With the intention of exporting Salt from
Gujarat, Adani Group has entered into partnership with Cargill, one of the multinational companies of
America. As time passed, the company has grown and there was no more partnership. This partnership
has left Adani Group with around 5,000 acres of land. The policy regulations of 1991 has facilities may
changes and this has encouraged and motivated the business in India, and this has made Adani Group
earn huge amounts of profits.
A decision regarding a sea port that is situated in Gujarat that it has to be lending to the private
companies. This decision was made in 1993. But later this contract was given to Adani Group. The group
has worked hard and has developed the port to such an extent that now it can handle about 8 crore tons
of cargo per year, and is considered as the largest private sector port of India. Adani has made
assumptions about the need for power in future and this made Adani to import coal. And this made
Adani to enter into the power and energy sector.
And in those lines, Adani Power Ltd., was established. And now it has turned a one of the largest
private thermal power company which can hold a capacity of about 4620 MW. According to the latest
statistics, Forbes 2014 has listed Gautam Adani as the 11th richest person of India, having the asset value
of 40 billion USD and providing employment to about 60,500 people.

13. Case Questions:


i. Highlight the traits that need to possess by an entrepreneur in order to have an edge
over and above others?

ii. After studying the case, high spot the qualities of Gautam Adani which made him a
successful entrepreneur? (7½ +7½)
