This assignment narrates two incidents happened during my internship which I have related
with two lamps of advocacy including Lamp of Honesty and Lamp of Courage. In our
career as well as In our personal life we can’t be honest at all time which may even some
time lead to failure. Last June month I was doing my judicial internship with a Learned
High Court Judge, whereas the learned judge used to spend 30 minutes with all the interns,
the judge shares his experience in the field of law their judicial career and etc. One day
during the discussion the judge was talking about his learned brother (Judge) who due to
his Honesty lost a life of innocent major girl (lost his courage). It’s a case of a major girl
hailing from a southern district of Tamil Nadu which is known for Honor killing ( killing
relative, especially a girl or woman, who is perceived to have brought dishonor on the
family), the girl eloped with a guy belonging to lower caste, and it’s been more than two
months the girl didn’t came back to home and also there is no information from the police
side on the complaint lodged by the girls parent. So the parents filed a Habeas corpus
Petition in the High Court then within 15 days the eloped couple were taken into police
custody and they were brought before the honorable court for enquiry where she refused
to go with her parent but at the same time her parents begged their lordship to send back
the girl with them, the judge initially advised the girl to go with her parent still she refused
and stated that “if I go with my parent for sure they will kill me” the judge passed the order
to surrender the girl to their parents stating in the order that though the guy with whom the
girl eloped is not employed so considering the future and safety of the girl she was sent
back with their parents. The opponent counsel finally after passing the order told the
learned judge that the order which is passed in this matter is going to ruin her life within a
shot span. After three days of passing the Order the statement of the girl and the opponent
counsel became true. Reported that the girl hanged herself and committed suicide. But
actually the truth is that it was a Honor killing done by her parents. After hearing this the
counsels started protesting. The judge was so depressed lost his courage and the very next
day he got voluntary transfer. Here due to Honesty or a wrong judgement lost a life as well
as courage.
