TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

IV. Procedures
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the
new lesson

Last meeting, we learned about matter and its

classification.
So as a sort of review, what is matter?

yes, rose anne Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass.

Very good!
What are the three classification of matter?

Yes, apple The three classification of matter are solid, liquid and gas.

None, teacher.
Very good!
So, is there any question regarding our previous
lesson?

Alright, let’s proceed.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

Class, get a piece of paper, tear it in pieces and

observe what happened.
The students get a piece of paper and tear it.

What did you observed?

Does the paper change to another substance?

Can you tell me, nerissa?

No teacher, still, it is a paper.

Now, I have here a candle with a matchstick. I

will burn it. Observe what will happen.

What did you observed? , Joy

The matchstick burned and the candle melt, teacher.
Does it change into a different type of matter?

Can you tell me, hazel?

Yes, it changed into a different type of matter, teacher.

Alright! Very good!

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new

lesson

Now, based on the paper you tore and the candle

and matchstick I burned. Can you tell me what is
physical change and chemical change?

Yes, Jordan
Teacher, physical change is a change in the form of matter
but not its identity.
How about chemical change?

Yes, Marjorie
Teacher, chemical change is a change in which one kind
of matter is changed into a different type of matter.

Very well said children!

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new
skills #1

Now, let’s watch a video.

Can you first tell me, class, what should you do
when you’re watching a video? Paul
Teacher, be quiet
Okay, another? John
Teacher, listen carefully

Alright! Very good!

Now class, do you already have more ideas what

physical change is and what matters undergo
physical change?
Yes, teacher!

Alright!
Can you tell me what is physical change based on
the video you have watched? , Joan
Physical change is something that changes the physical
properties of a substance such as size, shape, or form, but
does not create a new product

Very good!
Can you name an example? , Anjo
Cutting dress, teacher

Alright! Another example?, Roselee

Melting ice, teacher

How do you say that it is under physical change?

Because the ice is water that just freeze and turns into
solid but when it melts still, it is water.
Very good!

How about chemical change?

Based on the video you have watched, what is
chemical change? , Roxette
Teacher, chemical change is a reaction that rearranges the
particles of two or more substance to create at least one
new substance.
Very good!

Can you name an example Anthony?

Burned wood, teacher

Alright! Another example Arlene?

Metal rusting, teacher

Very good!

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new

skills #2

Now, I have here an example pictures. Identify

what changes of matter are these.

1. Who can answer number 1? ,

Julie.
Physical change, teacher.

2. How about number 2? , Dexter.

Teacher, physical change.

3. How about this? , L.A

Physical change also, teacher.

4. How about this one? , Princess.

Physical change, teacher

5. And then the last one? , Heart.

Physical change, teacher.

What did you noticed about the examples? ,

Grace.
Teacher, all examples undergo physical change.
Very good!
How can you say that these examples undergo
physical change? , Jessa.
Teacher, because it only change its appearance but does
not create a new substance.

Very good!

I have here another example pictures.

What changes of matter are these?

1. Who can answer number 1? ,

Charlotte
Chemical change, teacher.

2. How about number 2? , Andrea

Teacher, chemical change.

3. How about this? , Cassandra

Chemical change also, teacher.

4. How about this one? , Kristine

Chemical change, teacher

5. And then the last one? , Angel

Chemical change, teacher.

What did you noticed about the examples?

Teacher, all examples undergo chemical change.

How can you say that these examples undergo

chemical change?
Because it create a new product, teacher.

Very good!
F. Developing mastery (leads to formative
assessment 3)

Now, how will you differentiate physical change

from chemical change? , Emerson
Teacher, physical change is something that changes the
physical properties of a substance such as size, shape, or
form, but does not create a new product while the
chemical change is a reaction that rearranges the particles
of two or more substance to create at least one new
substance.

Very well said!

Is there any questions regarding our topic today?

None, teacher.

G. Finding practical application of concepts and

skills.

Class, get your notebook. We will have an

activity in relation to our topic.
Write a happy face if it is a physical change
and a sad face if it is a chemical change. Put
your answers on the blank space provided before
the number.

____ 1. Bleaching your hair 1.

____ 2. Cutting a dress
____ 3. Tearing a paper 2.
____ 4. Burning woods
3.
5. Cooking an egg
4.

5.

Very good!

H. Generalization / Abstraction.

Based on the activity that you had performed, can

you discuss the difference between physical and
chemical change? Teacher, physical change is something that changes the
physical properties of a substance such as size, shape, or
form. Some examples of these are bleaching your hair,
cutting a dress, and tearing a paper. While the chemical
change is a reaction that rearranges the particles of two or
more substance to create at least one new substance. Some
examples of these are burning woods, and cooking an egg.

Give examples of physical changes? , Rannie

Sliced bread, teacher
Another, Marie
crumpled paper, teacher
Another, Kate
broken glass, teacher
Very good!

How about examples of chemical change? , Belle

rusting bicycle
Another, Daisy
ripped fruit
Another, Camille
spoiled food
Very good!
I. Evaluation

Get a one half sheet of paper. We will have a

short quiz.

V. Reflection
While I’m doing this detailed lesson plan, I learned the
different examples that undergo into physical and
chemical change. It made my knowledge wider through
searching for different meanings, learning materials,
examples and guide for activity sheets on this topic that I
will teach to my students.
