(ULTRAVIOLET)
Ultraviolet rays is invisible rays that are part of energy coming from the
sun but some animal can see the ultraviolet rays such as bird and insect.
Its wavelength is longer than X – rays but shorter than visible light.
UV – A
UV – A is the most UV light radiation. The range of the wavelength is
315 – 400 nm.
UV – A is the most that could damage the skin and form furrow on the
face. Radiation of UV – A could passed till the dermis layer of skin and
through the glasses.
UV-B
The range of the wavelength is 280 – 315 nm. UV – B light usually only
damages on epidermis layer of the skin. Has highest intencity between
10:00 and 14:00 o’clock
In a lack of number, the radiation can synthesize vitamin D in the body.
In a high of number, the radiation could caused reddish skin. Free
radical could caused cataract.
And could damages DNA which can caused skin cancer.
UV-C
UV – C radiation form highest dangerous effect and caused highest
damages.
The range of the wavelength is 100 – 280 nm.
Fortunately, majority of this light absorbed on the ozon layer at
atmosphere.
But because of the ozone layer have became thin, so the UV C may pass
to the surface of the earth and could caused a lot of damages.
Mechanism of UV Rays
Founder Of UV Rays
Ritter was born in Samitz, Silesia (now Poland) and began his career as
an apothecary. He went to the University of Jena in 1796 to pursue his
interests in science. It was at Jena that he experimented with silver
chloride. Although it was known that AgCl decomposed in light, Ritter
found that this process was most efficient in the presence of “invisible”
radiation, beyond the violet end of the spectrum. This radiation became
known as ultraviolet radiation.
Ritter had no regular income and never became a university professor,
although in 1804 he was elected a member of the Bavarian Academy of
Science (in Munich).
Application Of UV Rays
Spectrophotometer
Money Detector
Laminar Air Flow
Water Sterilizer
Fluoroscent lamp
Mechanism Of Spectrophotometer
Ultraviolet rays has wavelength about 100 nm – 400 nm. The main
source of ultraviolet is the sun. The founder of ultraviolet rays is
Johann Wilhelm Ritter. Because the wavelength of UV rays is short so
the frequencies must be high.
