English II Unit 5, The Development of English

From Ignitia: “Language is not static [fixed]. It is living & growing. Living languages [and
cultures] are constantly evolving.” So, one concept you should master from this unit is:

The five major ways language can change.

First of all, do NOT “Google” this question. The answer you will receive will not
correlate with Unit 5 in the Ignitia program. Out in “Internet-land,” there are other
experts who could list other ways languages change but you are responsible for the
ones in our curriculum!
**The answer you get from Yahoo answers, Quizlet, Brainly, etc.
(adaptation, synthesis, standardization, genesis and design)
are NOT the answers that Unit 5 discusses. They may be correct
as well but they are not the ones you need to know.**
Remember that the purpose of doing the lessons is to be ready for the quizzes & the
reason for taking the quizzes is to be ready for the test. So, to that end… Let me help
you.

The first tip I would give you is to look at the titles of some of the Lessons:
The title of Lesson 1 is a bit too broad, you can’t say, “One change in language is a
change in language.” But, you might look back at that chapter to see what’s in there. I
do see three titles that will work as specific ways that a language can change.

You will have to look a little harder for the last two. Notice that an entire quiz is
dedicated to this very subject (Assignment: 14. Quiz 2: Changes in Language). I would
start by reviewing that quiz...which also tells you that the other two answers must be in
the remaining lessons between Quiz 1 & Quiz 2 (Lessons 11, 12, & 13).
