V OSH CT (Connecticut,
USA) will be here this
month for their 20th Eye
Clinic Mission to San Juan del
Sur. Sadly they had to cancel their
trip last year (January 2019) due to
the sociopolitical crisis in
Nicaragua during the time they
were making plans for the mission,
which is done many months before
January. This year will be back to
normal with the usual four day
clinic at the Centro Escolar
Enmanuel Mongalo y Rubio
(public school, south east corner of
town). Clinic schedule is Monday
13th January to Thursday 16th of
January from 8 am – 1 pm and
again from 2 pm – 5 pm for each of
those 4 days. Adults and children
are welcome and the services are
provided on a first come, first
served basis – no appointments.
The mission is managed by
Optometrist Dr. Matthew Blondin
and his wife, Clinic Director
Audrey Blondin aka 'La Jefa' who
are both from Torrington,
Connecticut. The group brings in
Optometrists, Opticians,
Dispensary Assistants, Pre-Testing
Assistants as well as many
Volunteer Students from US
University Optometry programs.
The team is supported locally with
bi-lingual translators, as well as
countless other volunteers provide
help in the six clinics with
refreshments, security and
transport.
